General Guidelines 2-5 Paper Weight Equivalence T a ble P aper weight is listed with expression in U.S. bo nd weight (lb) and European metric (g/m²). Th e shaded point indicates the standard weight. T hickness (Caliper) Thick paper is referred to as high-caliper paper and thi n paper as low- caliper paper .
General Guidelines 2-6 Paper Grain When paper is manufactured, it is cut into sheets with the grain running parallel to the length (long grain) or parallel to the width (short grain). Short grain paper ca n cause feeding problems i n the printer . All paper used in the printer should be long grain.
S pecial Paper 2-7 Special P a per This section explai ns printing on special paper . The page printer can use the following types of special paper . In this case, set the media type according to the table below . When using the above types of paper , be sure to use products that are specified for use with photocopiers an d/or page printers.
S pecial Paper 2-8 Adhesiv e-Back ed Labels The basic rule for printing on adhesiv e labels is that the adhesive must never come into contact with any pa rt of the printer . Adhesive paper sticking to the drum or rollers will damage the printer . Be sure to feed label p aper from the MP tray .
S pecial Paper 2-9 The table below lists the specifications for ad hesive label paper . Postcards F an the stack of postcards and align the ed ges before loading them in the MP tray . Make sure the postcards yo u are going to set are not curled. F eeding curled postcards may cause paper jams.
S pecial Paper 2-10 T o avoid jamming due to curled envelopes, do not leave more than approximately 10 printed envel opes stacked in the paper trays during multiple enve lope printing. Envelopes should be fed in the fac e-up position, right edge first.
S pecial Paper 2-1 1 Colored Paper Colored paper should satisf y the same conditions as whit e bond paper , listed i n P aper Specifications on page 2-2 . In addition, the pigments used in the paper must be able to withstand the heat of fusing during the printing process (up to 200 °C or 392 °F).
Paper T ype 2-12 P aper Type The printer is cap able of printing under t he optimum setting for the type of paper being used. Setting the paper type fo r the paper source from the printer’s operator panel will cause the printer to automa tically select the paper source and print in the mode best suited to that type of paper .
