Memory Card A memory card is a microchip card containing, for example, no nresident fonts and/or macros, forms, etc. The printer reads the contents of the card into its internal memory when power is switched on. The presence of this da ta in th e printe r memory can be confirmed on the status p rintout.

2.2. Operating Procedures 2-6 2.2. Operating Proc edures Switching Power On Check that the power cord is securely plugged in at both ends. Check t hat the printe r is connecte d to the comput er. In sw itching power on, the general rule is to switch on print er power first, com- puter power second.

If you write fonts into a memory card, we reco mmend you writ e them as font data and n ot as host data.

2.11. KIR 2 Level 2-24 2.11. KIR 2 Level This pri nter incorpo rates the KIR 2 (Kyocera Image Re finement 2 ) smoothing funct ion. At resoluti ons of 60 0 dpi and 300 dpi, t his function provides hi gh print qua lity by providing softwa re enhanceme nt of print reso- lution.

Setting the Audio Warning (Buzzer) In addition to the message display ed when the paper su pply is exhausted , or when paper jamming occurs, an audio w arning is ma de to s ound. This is useful, for e xample, w hen the pr inter is in a locati on some dis- tanc e from the user .

4.1. Toner Kit Replacement 4-1 Chapter 4 Maintenance This printer is d esigned to prov ide years of trouble-free service withou t the neces sity of printer module replacement. However, you must replace the to ner container in the printer with a replacement container from a new toner kit.
4.1. Toner Kit Replacement 4-2 To replac e the to ner cont ainer, proce ed as follows . 1. Open the printer's top cover all the way. 2. Press the toner container release leve r ( Green ) to release the old toner container from the printer. Remove the old toner cont ainer as gently as possible.

4.2. Cleaning 4-7 Clea ning th e Grid 1. Take the g rid cl eaner from p rotective bag i n the new toner kit, and remove the cap. ☛ The grid cleaner pad is impregnated with water. Perform the following cleaning procedure before the pad dries. 2. Attach the grid cleaner to the printer with the pad uppermost, as show n in the diag ram.
4.2. Cleaning 4-8 Paper Feed Unit To avoid pri nt qualit y problems due to paper dust and debri s, clean the paper fee d unit in the foll owing man- ner. 1. Pul l the pap er feed unit re leas e lever u p and draw the paper feed uni t all the way out until it stops.
5.1. General Guide 5-1 Chapter 5 Troubleshooting This chapter explains ho w to handle printer problems whic h may or may not occur. The pro- cedures are easy to fo llow. If a problem per sists after you have completed th e appropriate troubleshooting pro cedures, call fo r the ass istance of a service person .

The troubl eshoo ting proce dure for each t ype of prob lem is given be low. If the checks ex plained in this section do not solve the problem, ca ll for t he assis tance of a service person.

5.4. Print Quality Problems 5-6 Dirt on t he top e dge or ba ck of th e paper Check t he pape r chute a nd th e ramp. Draw out the paper feed unit and check for toner on the paper ramp. Clean the paper ramp (see Section 4. 2 .) using the wiper su pplied, or a soft, dry, l int-free cloth.
