x Inst allation Precautions Environment CAUTION Avoid placing the machine on or in locatio ns which ar e unstable or not level. Such locations may ca use the machine fall down or fa ll over. This type of situation presents a da nger of perso nal injury or dam age to the machine.

Preparation before Use 2-12 Setting Date and T ime Follow the steps below to set the loc al date and time at the place of installation. When you send an E-mail using the tr ansmission func tion, the date and time as set here will be printed in the header of the E-mail message.
Preparation before Use 2-13 2 Network Setup (LAN Cable Connection) The machine is equipped with network interface, which is compatible with network protocols such as TCP/IP (IPv4), TCP/IP (IPv6), IPX/ SPX, NetBEUI, IPSec, and A ppleTalk. It en ables network printing on the Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, NetWare and other pla tforms.

Preparation before Use 2-17 2 COMMAND CENTER (Settings for E-mail) COMMAND CENTER is a tool used for tasks such as veri fying the operating status of the machine a nd changing the settings for security, netw ork printing, E-mail transmission an d advanced networking.
Preparation before Use 2-18 Sending E-mail Specifying the SMTP settings allows you to send images loaded onto this machine as E-mail attachments. To use this function, this machine must be conn ected to a mail serv er using the SMTP protocol.

Preparation before Use 2-20 Loading Paper Paper can be loaded standardly in the two cassettes and the multi purpose tray. A paper feeder is also available as an option (ref er to Optional Equipment on Appendix-2 ).
Preparation before Use 2-21 2 Loading Paper in the Cassettes The 2 standard cassettes will each hold plain paper, recycl ed paper or color paper. Cassette 1 holds up to 500 sheets of A4 or smaller plain paper ( 80 g/m 2 ) or up to 250 sheets of B4 or larger plain paper (80 g/m 2 ).
Preparation before Use 2-22 3 Holding the p aper width ad justing tab, move the paper wid th guides to fit the paper . NOTE: Paper sizes are indicated on the cassettes. T o change between inch size and metr ic size (A, B sizes), follow the steps below to adjust the size switch.
Preparation before Use 2-23 2 IMPORTANT: • Before loading the p aper , be sure that it is not curled or folded. Paper that is curled or fo lded may cause paper jams. • Ensure that the loaded paper does not exceed the level indicator (see illustration below).
Preparation before Use 2-24 Loading Paper in the Multi Purpose T ray The multi purpose tray wil l hold up to 100 sheets of A4 or smaller plain paper (80 g/m 2 ) or up to 50 sheets of plain paper (80 g/m 2 ) lager than A4. The multi purpose tray acce pts paper sizes from A3 to A6 and Hagaki and from Ledge r to Statement-R, 8K, 16K and 16K-R.
Preparation before Use 2-25 2 3 Adjust the paper wid th gui des to the width of the pap er. 4 Insert the paper alon g the paper width guides into the tray until it stops. IMPORTANT: Keep the side th at was closes t the package seal facing up. Curled paper must be un curled before use.
Preparation before Use 2-26 Loading Envelopes Up to 10 envelopes may be loaded in the multi purp ose tray. Acceptable envelope sizes are as follows. 1 Open the multi purpose tr ay. 2 Adjust the paper wid th gui des to the width of the envelope. 3 For landscape form envelop es, close the flap.
Preparation before Use 2-27 2 IMPORTANT: How to load envelopes (orientation an d facing) will differ depending on the type of envelope. Be sure to load it in correctly, otherwise printing may be done in the wrong directio n or on the wrong face.

Basic Operation 3-7 3 Copying Follow the steps as below for basic copying. 1 Press the Copy key when the Copy key/indicator is off. NOTE: If the touch panel is turned of f, press the Energy Saver key or the Power key and wait for the machine to warm up.
Basic Operation 3-8 Adjusting Density Use this procedure to adjus t the de nsity when copying. NOTE: Y ou may choose Auto mode as the default se tting (refer to Density on page 8-19 ). The procedure fo r adjusting the dens ity of copies is explained be low.
Basic Operation 3-9 3 Selecting Image Quality Select image qu ality suited to the type of original. The table below shows the quality op tions. The procedure for selecting the quality of copies is explained be low. 1 Press the Copy key. 2 Place the originals on th e platen.
Basic Operation 3-10 Zoom Copying Adjust the magnification to reduce or enlarge the original image. The following zoom options are available. Auto Zoom Automatically reduces or enlarges the original image suitably to the selected paper size. Manual Zoom Manually reduces or enlar ges the original image in 1% increments between 25% a nd 400%.
Basic Operation 3-11 3 XY Zoom Select vertical and horizontal magnifica tions individually. Reduce or enlar ge original images in 1% increments between 25% a nd 400%. The procedure for using zoom copying is explained below. 1 Press the Copy key. 2 Place the originals on th e platen.
Basic Operation 3-12 Duplex Copying Produce two-sided copies. The followin g duplex options are available. You can also cre ate single- sided copies fr om two-sided or iginals or origin als with faci ng pages such as books. The following m odes are av ailable.
Basic Operation 3-13 3 Book to One-s ided Produces a 1-sided copy of a 2-side d or open book original. The following binding options ar e available. • Binding Lef t : Originals with facing pages are copied from left to right. • Binding Right : Originals with facin g pages are copied from right to left.
Basic Operation 3-14 6 If you choose [2-s ided>>1-sided], [2-sided>>2-sided], [Book>>1-sided] or [Book>>2-sided], se lect the binding edge of the originals of Original . 7 Press [Original Orienta tion] to select orientation of the originals , either [T op Edge T op] or [T op Edg e Left].
Basic Operation 3-15 3 With Document Finishe r When you use offsetting, printed cop ies are segregated after each set of co pies (or after each pa ge). NOTE: The optional document finisher or 3,000 sheet document finisher is required. The procedure for using collate/offset copying is explained below.
Basic Operation 3-16 Reserve Next This function allows you to reserve the next job during printing. Using this function, the orig inal will be scanned while the machine is printing. When th e current print jo b ends, the reserved copy job is printe d.
Basic Operation 3-17 3 Interrupt Copy This functio n allows you to pause the cur rent jobs in p rogress when you need t o make copies immediately. When interruption copy ends, the machine resumes th e paused print jobs.
Basic Operation 3-18 Stap le Use this feat ure to staple your finished copies. NOTE: S tapling requir es the optional document finisher or 3,000 sheet document finisher . Note also that saddle stitching (center st apling) requires the folding unit. The following stapling options and orientatio ns are available.
Basic Operation 3-19 3 Use the procedure below to prod uce stapled copies. 1 Press the Copy key. 2 Place the originals on th e platen. 3 Press [Org./Paper/Finishing] and th en [S taple/ Punch]. 4 Select the staple position. NOTE: T o use saddle stitching, press [Bind and Fold].
Basic Operation 3-20 Punch Punch holes in sets o f finished copies in preparation for binding. NOTE: Require s the optional 3,000 sh eet document finisher and punchin g unit. The orientation s of the original and corr esponding pun ch positions are as fo llows.

Basic Operation 3-22 Printing - Printing from Applications Follow the steps below to print documents from applications. NOTE: T o print the document from applicat ions, install the printer dr iver on your computer from the supplied CD-ROM (Product Libr ary).

Basic Operation 3-24 Sending This machine can send a scanned image as an attachmen t to an E-mail message or to a PC linked to the network. In order to do this, it is necessa ry to register the sender and destinatio n (recipient ) address on the network.
Basic Operation 3-25 3 Send as E-mail Sends a scanned original image as an E-mail attachment. NOTE: • Y ou must have a network environment in which this machine can connect to a mail server . It is recommended that the ma chine be used in an environm ent in which it can connect to the mail server at any time over a LAN.
Basic Operation 3-26 6 Check the destination list. Select a destination and pr ess [Detail/Edit] to check and edit it. Select a destination and press [Delete] to remove the destination from the list. NOTE: When selecting [On] for Entry Check for New Destination ( page 8-31 ), the confirm ation scree n appears.

NOTE: Y ou can set the machine up so that the addres s book screen appear s when you press the Send key . For details, refer to Setting the Default Send Screen on page 8-32 .
Basic Operation 3-31 3 Destination Search Destinations registered in the Address Book can be searched. Advanced search by type or by initial letter is also available. The procedures for using the di fferent search modes are explained below. Search by name Press [Search(Name)] and enter the required name.
