4 Introduction The 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet PCI Adapter is a 32-bit LAN a da pter for use in personal computers with PCI computer bus slots. This a da pter features a mini-GBIC fiber connector (SFP) for a 1000 Mbps IEEE 802.3z Ethernet network connection over optical fiber ca ble.

9 In stalling Mini-GBIC T ra nsce iver A typical mini-GBIC SFP tra nsceiver is shown a s follows: T o install a fiber tra nsceiver into the SFP slot, the steps are: 1. Insert the fiber tra nsceiver into the mini-GBIC SFP port. Normally , a bail is provided for every SFP tra nsceiver .
10 Connecting to the Network The rear bra cket of the PCI a da pter contains two fiber connectors. The TX connector is used f or tra nsmission a nd the RX is used for reception.
11 Network Driver In stallation After making the connection to the network, you must install the a da pter network driver in order to connect the network a da pter to your network operating system. The a dapter driver medi a contain the latest versions of the network drivers available when the a da pter is shi pped from the factory .
