1 1. Introduction Congratulations on purchasing this 802. 11g Wireless LAN ADSL2+ Router. This router is a cost-effective ADSL2+ router, with the comb ination of an ADSL2+ modem, router, Ethernet network switc h and wireless access point, you can surf the Internet through your ADSL2/2+ broadband connection without invest ing other devices.
2 1.1. Features ADSL2/2+ Compliance • Support downstream rates of up to 24Mbps and upstream rat es of up to 1Mbps. • Compliant to ITU-T G.992.1 (G.dmt), G.992.2 (G. lite), G.992.3 (ADSL2), G.992.4 (splitterless ADSL2), G.992.5 ( ADSL2+) for Annex A, B.
3 1.2. Minimum Requirements The following devices are nece ssary to configure and use the ADSL2+ Router: • A PC with Pre-installed Ethernet Adapter (Required) and a Web-Browser (Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher) • RJ-45 Ethernet crossover cable (Included i n the package) • RJ-11 (ADSL Ready) phone Line 1.
4 1.4. Hardware Placement 1.4.1. Rear Panel 1) Antenna Connector The antenna connector of the router is reverse SMA connector. It al lows you to connecting an external antenna with revers e SMA connector to the router easily. 2) Reset The Reset button can be used to reset the router or restore to factory defaults.
5 3) Power Jack Please plug the power adapter attached with the ADSL Router to the power jack. The power adapter is 12VDC, 1A. 4) Lo cal Area Network (LAN) The router’s 4 LAN ports are whe re you connect your L AN’s PCs, printer servers, hubs and switches etc.
6 2. Hardware Installation Step 1. Connect the ADSL Line Connect the router to your ADSL cable through the supplied RJ-11 telephone line. Step 2. Connect the router to yo ur LAN network Connect the router to your PC, hub or sw itch by attached the Ethernet cable to the LAN port of the router.
7 3. Setup Wizard This router provides a Setup Wi zard tool for user to configure the ADSL settings. This wizard col lects some ISP’ s ADSL sett i ngs so that user can easy to configure the router’s ADSL settings by only selecting the ISP vendor from the wizard.
8 2. The following screen will be displayed. Click “Setup Wizard”. 3. This wizard will be executed and try to search for the ADSL Router. If the ADSL Router can be searched successfu lly, the wizard will guide you to step 5.
9 4. If the router cannot be found, please enter the IP Address and the Password of the router to search again. Click “Next” to continue..
10 5. The wizard will automatically select t he country where you are in by checking the language of the operating system in your computer and skip to the “Select ISP” page. Please select the ISP. If you cannot find the ISP, please click “Other” to reselect the country or manual configure the ISP information.
11 3.1. Automatically Set ISP If you can find the ISP from the wizard, please follow the procedures below to let the wizard set the ISP settings automatically.
12 2. Enter the Username and Password which your ISP has provided to you if it is needed. Click “Next”. 3. Click “Save” to save the settings and reboot the router.
13 4. After saving and rebooting the router, the ISP settings are all finished. This wizard will then help to set your computer to obtain IP Address from the router automa ticall y. Note1: To use the router to get into the Internet, the IP Address of each PC has to be set in the same network segment as the rout er.
14 5. The wizard will try to connect t o the ISP you have selected. If the connection is failed, please run the wizard to select the IS P again. 6. If you can successfully to connect to the ISP, you will see below page.
15 3.2. Manually Set ISP If you cannot find the ISP from the wiza rd, please follow the procedures below to set the ISP settings manually. Before configuring the I SP manually, please check with your ISP ( Internet Service Provider) what kind of the service is provided such as PPPoE, PPPoA or RFC1483/2684.
16 2. Please check with your ISP the connection type of the ADSL line. Selec t the Connection Type and click “Next”. Note: The wizard will automatic ally select the country where you are in by checking the language of the operati ng system in your computer and skip to the “Select ISP” page.
17 3. Input the VPI, VCI and Encapsulation data supplied b y your ISP. If the Connection Type is “Static IP Address”, you have to input the IP Address information supplied by your ISP. To know more about the explanation of each setting, please refer to Section 5.
18 5. Click “Save” to save the settings and reboot the router. 6. After saving and rebooting the router, the ISP settings are all finished. This wizard will then help to set your computer to obtain IP Address from the router automa ticall y.
19 7. The wizard will try to connect t o the ISP you have selected. If the connection is failed, please run the wiz ard to select the ISP again..
20 8. If you can successfully to connect to the ISP, you will see below page. If you want to configure m ore settings, please click “Advanced Settings” t o get into the web management of the router or click “Finish” to close the wizard.
21 4. IP Address Setting Using the router to get into the Internet, the P Cs in the network must have Ethernet adapter installed and be connected to the router either directly or through a hub or switch. The TCP/IP prot ocol of each PC has to been installed and the IP Address of each PC has to be set in the same subnet as the router.
22 4. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS ser ver ad dress a utom ati cal ly as shown on the following screen. 5. Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address automatically from your router’s DH CP server.
23 Windows 2000 1. Click the Start button and select Settings , then click Control Panel . The Control Panel window will appear. 2. Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections icon. In the Network and Dial - up Connection window, double-click Loca l Area Connection icon.
24 6. Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address automatically from your Broadband Router’s DHCP server. Note: Please make sure that the router’s DHCP server is the only DHCP server available on your LAN.
25 Windows 95/98/Me 1. Click the Start button and select Settings , then click Control Panel . The Control Panel window will appear. 2. Double-click Network icon. The Network window will appear. 3. Check your list of Network Components. If TCP/IP is not installed, click the Add button to install it now.
26 7. Check each of the tabs and verify the following sett ings: Bindings : Check Client for Microsoft Networks and File and printer sharing for Microsoft Net works. Gateway : All fields are blank. DNS Configuration : Select Disa ble DNS. WINS Confi guration : Select Disable WINS Resolution.
27 Window s NT 1. Click the Start button and select Settings , then click Control Panel . The Control Panel window will appear. 2. Double-click Network icon. The Network window will appear. Select the Protocol tab from the Network window. 3. Check if the TCP/IP Protocol is on your list of Network Protocols .
28 6. Check each of the tabs and verify the following sett ings: IP Address : Select Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. DNS : Let all fields are blank. WINS : Let all fields are blank. Routing : Let all fields are bl ank. 7. Click OK to confirm the setting.
29 5. Web Management Configuration Once you have configured your PCs to obtain an IP address automatically, the router’s DHCP server will automatically give your LAN clients an IP address. By default the router’s DHCP server is enabled so that you can obtain an IP address automatically.
30 The HOME page screen below will appear. The Home Page is divided into seven sections: Quick Start , Interface Setup, Advanced Setup, Access Management, Maintenance, Status and Help . Quick Start (Section 5.1) Follow the setup process in the Quick Start; you can quickly set the router as an Internet Access device.
31 Access Management (Section 5.4) It allows you to configure ACL, IP/M AC/Application/URL Filter, SNMP, UP nP and DDNS function s. Maintenance (Section 5.
32 5.1. Quick Start The Quick Start section is designed to get you using the router as quickly as possible. Before configuring the router, please check with y our ISP (Internet Service Provider) what kind of the service is provided such as PPPoE, PPPoA or RFC1483/2684.

34 Please follow the steps in the setup wizard to complete the configuration of the Internet connection. Step 1: Set your new password Please enter the new password and confirm the password again.
35 Step 2: Choose your tome zone Please select the tome zone where you are located. Step 3: Set your Internet connection Please check with your ISP the connection type of the ADSL line.
36 Step 4: Input the data supplied by your ISP To know more about the explanation of each setting, please refer to Section 5.2. Step 5: Re-start your ADSL router Click “Next” to save the settings and restart the router.
37 5.2. Interface Setup 5.2.1. Internet z ATM VC Parameter Description Virtual Circuit VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) and VCI (Virtual Channel Identifier define a virtual circuit. VPI VPI is a virtual path determines the way an ATM cell should be routed.
38 Parameter Description VCI VCI is the label given to an ATM VC to identify it and determine its destination. The VCI is a 16-bit number that is included in the header of an ATM c ell. The valid range for the VCI is 32 to 65535. Enter the VCI assigned by the ISP.
39 Parameter Description MBS MBS (Maxi mum Burst Siz e) refers to the maximum number of cells that can be sent at the peak rate. Type the MBS, which is less than 65535. z Encapsulation The router can be connected to your servic e provider in any of the following ways.
40 z Dynamic IP Address/Static IP Address/PPPoE/PPPoA/Bridge Mode After you have selected the ISP Ty pe, this web page will be varied depending on the ISP Type you select. You have to c ontinue s etting some parameters. Please refer to the following table for the explanation of each parameter.
41 Parameter Description TCP MSS Option The “TCP MSS Option” enables the configuration of the maximum segment size (MSS) f or transient packets that traverse a router, specifically TCP segments in the SY N bit set, when PPPoE is being used in the network .
42 Parameter Description Dynamic Route Dynamic routing allows routing tables in routers to change as the possible routes change. This router supports RIP1, RIP2-B and RIP2-M protocols for dynamic routing. After the RIP protocol is selected, please choose the RIP direction from “None”, “Both”, “IN Only” or “OUT Only”.
43 5.2.2. LAN z Router Local IP Parameter Description IP Address Enter the IP Address of the ADSL router for t he local user to access the router’s web page. By default, the IP Address is 192.168.2.1 . IP Subnet Mask Enter the Subnet Mask of the ADSL router.
44 Parameter Description Multicast Specify the method of transmitting data simultaneously to many receivers. Please select “IGMP v1” or “IGMP v2” as the multicast protocol or select “Disabled” to disable the function.
45 Parameter Description Lease Time In the Lease Time setting you can specify the time period that the DHCP Server lends an IP address to your LAN clients. The DHCP will change your LAN client’s IP address when this time threshold p eriod is terminated.
46 5.2.3. Wirel ess z Access Point Settings Parameter Description Access Point Activated or deactivated the wireless function of the router. When it is activated, t he router will be an access point for other wireless clients to connect wirelessly. Channel It is the radio channel used by the wireless LAN.
47 Parameter Description Beacon Interval The interval of time t hat this wireless router broadcast a beacon. Beacon is used to synchronize the wireless network. The range for the beacon period is between 20 and 1000 with a typical value of 100 ( milliseconds).
48 z Multiple SSI Ds Settings Parameter Description SSID Index This router can support multiple SS IDs. By default, this function is disabled. You can only s et a set of SSID. SSID The SSID (up to 32 printable A SCII characters) is the unique name identified in a WLAN.
49 z WEP/WPA-PS K/WPA2-PSK Parameter Description WEP-64Bits WEP is less level of security than WPA. WEP supports 64-bit and 128-bit key lengths to encrypt the wireless data.
50 z Wireless MAC Address Filter Parameter Description Active This router can preven t the wireless clients from accessing the wireless network by checking the MAC Address of the clients. If you enab le this function, please set the MAC Address of the wireless clients that you want to filter.
51 5.3. Advanced Setup 5.3.1. Fire wall Parameter Description Firewall When you enable the firewall function, it will protect you from following attacks of WAN side: z SYN flooding attack z Ping of Death z Teardrop z Land attack SPI If you enable SPI, all t raffics initiat ed from WAN site will be blocked including DMZ, Virtual Server, etc.
52 5.3.2. Routing z Routing Table List You can see the curre nt routing table of the router here. If you want to ad d another routing rule, please click “A DD ROUTE”. Parameter Description Dest IP Show the IP Address of t he destination LAN. Mask Show the Subnet Mask of the destination LAN.
53 Parameter Description Gateway IP The next stop gateway of the path toward the destination LAN. This is the IP of the neigh bor router that this router should communicate with on the pat h to the destination LAN. Metric The number of hops (routers) t o pass through to reach the destination LAN.
54 z Add Route If you have another router with a LAN-to-LAN connection, you may need to create a static routing on the router that is the gateway to Internet. Parameter Description Destination IP Address Enter the IP Address of the destination LAN. IP Subnet Mask Enter the Subnet Mask address of the destination LAN.
55 Parameter Description Announced in RIP Select “Yes”, this routing path will be propagated to other hosts through RIP broadcasts. Select “No”, this rout ing path will be k ept private and it is not included in RIP broadcasts.
56 5.3.3. NAT 5.3.3.1. NAT Network Address Translation (NAT) allows multiple users at your local site to access the Internet through a single Public IP Address or multiple Public IP Addresses.
57 5.3.3.2. DMZ The DMZ Host is a local computer exposed to the Internet. When setting a particular internal IP Address as t he DMZ Host, all incoming packet s will be checked by the firewall and NAT algorithms then passed to the DMZ Host. For example, if you have a local client PC that cannot run an Internet application (e.
58 5.3.3.3. Virtual Server Use the Virtual Server function when you wa nt different servers/clients in your LAN to handle different service/Internet application t ype (e.g. Email, FTP, Web server etc.) from the Internet. Computers use numbers called port numbers to recognize a particular service/Internet ap pl ication type.
59 Parameter Description Start Port Number E nter the start port number. End Port Number Enter the end port number. Local IP Address It is recommended to enter a static IP Address for the server here. If the server’s IP Address is obtained from DHCP Server, the IP Address may be changed dynamically and will cause problem on this feature.
60 5.3.4. ADSL Parameter Description ADSL Mode The def ault setting is “A uto Sync-Up”. This mode will automatically detect the ADSL mode including ADSL2+, ADSL2, G.DMT, T1.413 and G.lite. If you are not sure how to select the ADSL mode, please contact with your ISP.
61 5.4. Access Management 5.4.1. ACL If you want to restrict users from accessing certain Internet applications/s ervices such as Internet websites, email, FTP etc., then t his is the place to set that configuration. Access Control allows users to define the traff ic type permitted in your LAN or WAN.
62 Parameter Description Secure IP Address The default 0.0.0.0~0.0.0. 0 allows any user to use this service to remotely manage the router. Type a range of IP Addresses to authorize access to a number of users with matching IP Addresses. Application Choose the services that you permit to use in your LAN or WAN interface.
63 5.4.2. Filter You can forbid some users accessing to the router by filtering the users through IP Address or MAC Address. You can also restrict some applications or URLs be accessing by users through the router here. Please select the filter type to start configuring.
64 5.4.2.1. IP/MAC Filter z IP / MAC Filter Set Editing Parameter Description IP/MAC Filter Set Index This is the item number to record the setting. Interface Select which channel (PVC) to configure. Direction Select the access to the Internet (Outgoing) or from the Internet (Incoming), or Both.
65 z IP / MAC Filter Rule Editing Parameter Description IP/MAC Filter Rule Index This is the item number to record the setting rule. Rule Type Select to filter through the IP Address or MAC Address. Active Select “Yes” to enable the current rule, select “No” to cancel the current rule.
66 Parameter Description MAC Address The MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a hardware address that uniquely identif ies each node of a network. If the rule type is “MAC”, you have to designate the MAC address that you want to filter. Rule Unmatched Select action for the t raffic unmatching current rule.
67 5.4.2.2. Applicatio n Filter Parameter Description Application Filter Activate or deactivate the application filter. ICQ/MSN/YMSG/Real Audio/Video If “Allow” is selected, the packets for these applications will be able to pass through the rout er.
68 5.4.2.3. URL Filter z URL Fil ter Editing Parameter Description Active Activate or deactivate the URL filter. URL Index This is the item number to record the setting. URL A URL can be thought of as the "address" of a web page and is sometimes referred to informally as a "web address.
69 5.4.3. SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a popular protocol f or network management. It is used for collecting information and c onfiguring the network devices. This router supports SNMP agent func tion, which allows a manager station to manage and monitor the router through the network.
70 5.4.4. UPnP When the UPnP function is e nabled, the router can be detected by UPnP compliant system such as Windows XP. The rout er will be displayed in the Neighborhood of Windows XP, so you can directly double click the router or right click the router and select “Invoke” to configure t he router through web browser.
71 5.4.5. DDNS DDNS allows you to map the static do main name to a dynamic IP address. You must get an account, password and your static domain name f rom the DDNS service providers. Parameter Description Dynamic DNS Activated or deactivated the DDNS function.
72 Parameter Description Password Enter the password you set for the DDNS service. Wildcard Support Enable or disable the wildcard to stand for some characters.
73 5.5. Maintenance 5.5.1. Administr ator Parameter Description Username The username of the rout er is “admin” by default. New Password Enter up to 30-digit of the new password. Confirm Password Enter the new password again to confirm the setting.
74 5.5.2. Time Zone The Time Zone allows your router t o set its time; this will affect function such as System Log. Parameter Description Current Date/Time Show the current date/time of the router. Synchronize time with NTP Server Automatically – Set the time by following with a NTP Server.
75 5.5.3. Firmware If you have new firmware for some features update, ple ase upgrade firmware of the router here. Parameter Description Current Firmware Version The current firmware version will be shown here. New Firmware Location Type in the location of the new firmware or click “Browse” to find it.
76 Parameter Description Upgrade Click “Upgrade” to begin the upgrade processes or backup file restoring processes. After the router is restarted, the processes are completed. It might take several minutes, don't power off the rout er during upgrading or restoring.
77 5.5.4. System Restart In this page, you can restart your router or rest ore to factory defaults. If you wish to restart the router usin g the factory default settings, select “Fa ctory Default Settings” to reset to factory defaults.

82 6. Troubleshooting 1. The LAN LED on the front panel does not light up. STEPS CORRECTIVE ACTION 1 Check the Ethernet cable connections between your ADSL2+ Router and the computer or hub. 2 Check for faulty Ethernet cables. 3 Make sure your comput er’s Ethernet card is working properly.
83 The following procedures will help you to check the current IP Address setting of your computer. You can compare if your computer and router’s IP Addresses are in the same subnet. Step 1: Click “Start” an d select “Run”. Step 2: Type in “cmd” and click “OK”.
84 4. I forget my login usern ame and/or password. STEPS CORRECTIVE ACTION 1 If you have changed the password and have now forgotten it, you will need to upload the default configurat ion file. This will erase all custom configurations and restore all of the factory defaults including the password.
85 6. Initialization of the ADSL connection failed. STEPS CORRECTIVE ACTION 1 Check the cable connections between the ADSL port and the wall jack. The ADSL LED on the rear panel o f the router should be on. 2 Check VPI, VCI, type of encapsulation and typ e of multiplexing settings are the same as what you collected from your ISP.
86 7. Glossary 10Base-T It is an Ethernet standard for Lo cal Area Network (LAN). 10Base-T uses a twisted pair cable with maximum length of 100 meters. AAL ATM Adaptation Layer that defines the rules governing segmentation and reassembly of data into c ells.
87 CPE Customer Premises Equipment , such as ADSL router, USB modem . Default Gat eway (Rout er) Every non-router IP device needs to conf igure a default gateway’s IP address.
88 FTP File Transfer Protocol. The Internet protocol (and program) used to transfer files between hosts. Idle Timeout Idle Timeout is designed so that aft er there is no traffic to the Internet for a pre- configured amount of time, the connection will automatically be disconnected.
89 NAT Network Address Translator is defined by RFC 1631. Enable a LAN network to use one set of IP address for internal tr affic. A NAT box located where the LAN meets the Internet provides the necess ary IP address translation.
90 PPPoA (RFC 2364) The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) pr ovides a standard method for transporting multi-protocol data grams over point-to-point links. This document describes the use of ATM Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5) for framing PPP encapsulated packets.
