10 Power Cord Protection T o avoid any malfunctions of the unit, and to protect against electric shock, fire or personal injury , please observe the following: Hold the plug firmly when connecting or disconnecting the AC power cord. Keep the AC power cord away from heating appliances.
11 T ypes o f Discs T hat Can be P layed on T his S ystem This player can playback discs bearing any of the following marks: Note-1 DVD players and discs are designed with region numbers which dictate the regions in which a disc can be played.
12 Notes on Discs Disc handling precautions T o keep the disc clean, handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the surface. Do not stick paper or tape on the disc. If there is glue (or a similar substance) on the disc, remove the glue completely before using the disc.
13 Inst allation This section describes how to connect the system to the speakers, a TV monitor with audio / video input jacks and other video components. Y ou cannot connect this system to a TV monitor which does not have a video input connector . Be sure to turn of f the power of each component before making the connectors.
14 Speaker System Connection Connect the supplied speaker system by matching the colors of the terminals and those of the cords. The speaker cables and speaker terminals are color-coded for easier connection. Connect the Front Left S peaker with White/Black cables to the “SPEAKER - FRONT L” White/Black terminals on the back panel.
15 AM Indoor Loop Antenna T o stand the antenna on a surface, fix the claw to the slot. A high-performance AM loop antenna provided with the receiver is sufficient for good reception in most areas. Connect the loop antenna’s wires to the AM antenna terminals as shown.
16 Basic Connection Diagram: The diagram below represents a typical connection. In this diagram you can view the picture from DVD movie discs on your TV set. Y ou can also play the sound from your stereo TV set and the sound from your stereo VCR through the speakers of this system.
17 TV and Optional Component Connections (Continued) T urn OFF the power and remove the AC cord from the outlet when connecting the system. TV Connection-Component Video (Cable not Included) If your TV set has a Component Video Input Jack you can connect your TV to the Component Video Out Jack on the back of this system.
18 Speaker Positioning Information Y our system is supplied with 5 compact sized satellite speakers and one subwoofer . The satellite speakers reproduce only the mid range and higher frequencies. All of the low frequency (bass) sounds are produced by the subwoofer .
19 Panel Operation 1. MAIN POWER SWITCH Press this button once to switch on the unit, a red LED indicator will light up. Press it again to switch off the power . 2. OPEN/CLOSE BUTTON Press to open or close the DVD/CD drawer to load or remove a disc. 3.
20 Presetting Radio St ations Y ou can preset up to 30 of your favorite AM and FM stations, in any combination, in the tuner memory for easy recall. 1 . Press the ON/ST ANDBY button on the front p anel or the POWER button on the remote control to turn the system ‘On’.
21 Basic Playback IMPORT ANT : Please note that some DVD movie discs may not have all the features described in this chapter . For example, older movies may not allow you to select multiple camera angles.
22 During playback press the button to begin forward high-speed search, or press the button to begin reverse high-speed search. Pressing the or buttons repeatedly will cycle the player.
23 The levels of the five satellite speakers have been preset at the factory at “0 db”. This means that if you were able to position all of the satellites the same distance from your normal listening position as recommended, the sound from all five satellites will sound equally loud at your normal listening position.
24 Understanding the Individual DVD Disc Menu Most DVD movie discs will automatically display either a “T itle Menu” or a “Root Menu” before the actual movie begins to play . When these menus appear at the beginning of a movie the “PLA Y” or “PLA Y MOVIE” command will usually be highlighted.
25 Repeat Playback Y ou can play all of the chapters in a title or an entire DVD disc repeatedly . Y ou can play all tracks on an audio CD repeatedly . Y ou can also play a single title, chapter or track repeatedly . In program play mode, the system repeats the chapters or tracks in the programmed order .
26 1 . In stop mode, press the PROGRAM button to enter program registration mode. The programming display appears on the TV screen and the front panel display . 2 . Use the number button (0-9) on the remote control to key in the track numbers you wish to program.
27 T o st art playback at a specific elapsed time Y ou can start playback at any specific point in time on a DVD movie disc by entering a time code in the T ime Menu. For example, to start playback at a point 1 hour and 15 minutes and 20 seconds from the start of the movie you would key in “1-1-5-2-0” as follows: 1 .
28 When playing a normal audio CD 1 . Press the DISPLA Y button once. The On Screen Display will show ‘Single Elapsed’ and display the elapsed time of the track being played. 2 . Press the DISPLA Y button a 2nd time. The On Screen Display will show ‘Single Remain’ and display the remaining time of the track being played.
29 Setup Menu Listing Following is a listing of all of the possible options for each setting in this system, as they appear on the menu pages. The factory default setting for each item is “highlighted”.
30 Press the “ Ú ” Navigation button to select “Disc Menu”. The colour bar appears on the TV screen. The screen shows: Press the “ > ” Navigation button to show the submenu content and press the “ Ù ” or “ Ú ” to select for example “English”.
31 TV Display Setting Path: General Page ® TV Display Selects the aspect ratio of the TV set to be connected. NORMAL/PS (4:3 Pan & Scan mode): Used when you connect a normal TV to the system. Displays a wide picture on the whole TV screen with a portion (right and left sides of the picture) automatically cut off.
32 1 . Press SETUP button to enter GENERAL SETUP P AGE. 2 . Highlight OSD LANG using Ù / Ú , then press > button to go to the right option list. Select the desired language using Ù / Ú , then press ENTER to confirm your selection. 3 . Press SETUP again to exit SETUP MENU.
33 Screen Saver Setting Path: General Page ® Screen Saver T urns the screen saver option on or off. If you turn the screen saver on, the screen saver image appears when you leave the system in pause or stop mode for more than 1 minute. The screen saver is useful to prevent your display from becoming damaged.
34 Preferences The preferences page allows you to select the default language for the audio, subtitles and disc menus, change the parental control setting to prevent children from viewing unsuitable material, and change the password which is needed in order to change the parental control level.
35 Setting the Parent al Control Level Path: Preferences ® Parental Default Setting: No Parental Many DVD movie discs contain Motion Picture Association rating codes. This home theater system recognizes the codes on those discs and provides a method for you to prevent children from viewing films that are unsuitable or objectionable.
36 S peaker Configuration setup is important to perform prior to using the surround sound modes. It is possible to receive multi-channel surround sound without a center speaker . But for best results with Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital decoding, at least 5 speakers (Left, Center , Right, Left Rear and Right Rear) should be used.
37 Karaoke Function This system has a Karaoke function which can be accessed as follows: 1. Insert a Karaoke disc (CD-G , VCD or DVD) into the disc tray and press play to start playback. 2. Plug in 1 or 2 microphones (NOT INCLUDED) into (one of) the 2 microphone jacks on the front panel of the main unit.
38 Zoom Control 1 . Press the ZOOM button on the remote control during normal, slow or still (pause) playback. 2 . If you press the ZOOM button repeatedly , the magnification level increases. Three magnification levels are available. On each press of ZOOM, the following message will appear on the TV screen.
39 Angle Selection Some DVD discs contain scenes which have been shot simultaneously from a number of different angles. For these discs, the same scenes can viewed from each of the different angles. (The recorded angles differ from disc to disc.) 1 . While playing a title shot from different angles, the angle mark appears on the TV screen.
40 PBC Function (VCD 2.0 Only) PBC Playback Buttons When playing VCD with PBC functions, Y ou can enjoy simple interactive software on the TV screen. During playback, such functions as track selection, stop, previous/next scene, fast forward/backward, return, play/pause and karaoke are available.
41 Digest/Intro-Scan Function (for Audio CDs) When playing a normal audio CD the DIGEST button performs the same function as an INTRO SCAN button on a CD player . This feature is useful when you are trying to locate a specific song but you cannot remember the title or track number .
42 If an FM station is noisy Press MONO/ST . button on the front panel of the receiver . This will change the sound mode to 'mono'. Press the button again to restore the stereo effect.
43 Bass and T reble Adjustments These adjustments can be made while a movie is playing or while the disc is stopped. The default setting for the Bass and T reble level is 0dB. T o increase or decrease the Bass or T reble levels press the BASS or TREBLE buttons on the remote control.
44 Listening to an External Source If other audio component(s) are connected to this system (see page 16) Y ou can hear the external source through the speakers of this system. 1 . Y ou can press the TV or Video button on the front panel of the unit or the Function button on the remote to select the desired external source directly .
45 T roubleshooting If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the system, use this troubleshooting guide to help you remedy the problem. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest service center by calling 1-800-287-4871. No power .
