Thank you for purchasing the Kidde Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alar m Model # KN-COSM-BCA . This alar m has a five-year limited warranty. Please take a few minutes to thor oughly read this user’s guide, and save for futur e reference. T each childr en how to respond to the alarms, and that they should never play with the unit.

Sm oke Ala rm The smoke alar m constantly monitors the air for products of combustion that ar e produced when something is bur ning or smoldering. When smoke particles in the smoke sensor r each a specified concentration, the alar m/voice message warning system will sound, accompanied by the flashing r ed LED light.
Installing Batteries Batter ies w er e not installed at the f actor y and must be installed f or the unit to operate! Install the three (3) AA batteries in the back of the Smoke/CO Alar m. • The mount ing plat e must be removed from the back of the alarm to install batte ries.

Sloped Ceilings The following information is from the National Fir e Protection Association and is listed in Fire Code 72. Install Smoke Alarms on sloped, peaked or cathedral ceilings at, or within 3’ (0.9m) of the highest point (measured horizontally).
Testing The T est/Reset button has four purposes. It tests the unit’s electr onics, resets the alarm, activates the HUSH® feature and activates the Peak Level memory (See page 16-17). CA UTION: Due to the loudness (85 decibels) of the alar m, alwa ys stand an arms length a wa y from the unit when testing.
Peak Level Memory If the CO sensor has detected a CO level of 100 PPM or higher since last r eset, it will be recorded by the Peak Level Memory function. To access the Peak Level Memory press the test/r eset button. If a r eading of 100 PPM or higher has been r ecorded the unit will chirp 8 times.

20 The CO sensor meets the alar m r esponse time requir ements as follows: At 70 PPM, the unit must alar m within 60-240 minutes. At 150 PPM, the unit must alar m within 10-50 minutes. At 400 PPM, the unit must alar m within 4-15 minutes. NOTE: This carbon mono xide alar m is designed to detect carbon mono xide gas fr om ANY source of combustion.
The following conditions can r esult in transient CO situations: Excessive spillage or reverse venting of fuel-bur ning appliances caused by outdoor ambient conditions such as: • W ind dir ection and/or velocity, including high gusts of wind, heavy air in the vent pipes (cold/humid air with extended periods between cycles).
Fir e Prevention Never smoke in bed, or leave cooking food unattended. T each children never to play with matches or lighters! Train everyone in the home to r ecognize the alarm pattern, voice message war nings and to leave the home using an escape plan when it’s heard.
Additional Recommendations Smoke alar ms should be installed outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the family living unit including basements and excluding crawl spaces and unfinished attics.
