English – 6 – Continued Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in the parentheses follo wing each item name indicates the supplied quantity .
English – 7 – 2 Connect the supplied AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminal. Place the antenna aw ay from the unit and adjust its position for the best reception. 3 Connect the supplied FM wir e antenna to the FM 75 Ω CO AXIAL jack. Adjust the position of the FM antenna for the best reception.
English – 8 – Common Operations T urning On or Off the Unit T o turn on the unit Press ST ANDBY/ON on the unit or remote control. The unit turns on with the last source selection remaining v alid. T o turn off the unit (on stanby) Press ST ANDBY/ON on the unit or remote control.
English – 9 – Demonstration Mode The unit has a demonstration mode that sho ws various features of fered by the unit. T o activate the demonstration In standby mode, press REPEA T/DEMO. The demonstration begins. T o deactivate the demonstration Press REPEA T/DEMO again or ST ANDBY/ON.
English – 10 – T uning In a Station 1 Pr ess TUNER/BAND to select tuner mode. The unit automatically turns on, and tunes in the last station tuned in (either FM or AM). 2 Pr ess TUNER/BAND to select the band, FM or AM. Each time you press the button, the band selection alternates between FM and AM.
English – 11 – T uning In a Preset Station 1 Pr ess TUNER/BAND to select tuner mode. 2 Pr ess TUNER/B AND to select the band, FM or AM. 3 Pr ess 8 / 2 or 3 / 8 repeatedly to select the desir ed preset number . • Alternati vely , use the number buttons on the remote control.
English – 12 – Playing Back CDs/VCDs/MP3-CDs This unit can play back all digital audio CDs, video CDs (VCDs), f inalized digital audio CD-Recordable (CD-R) discs and finalized digital audio CD-Re writable (CD-R W) discs.
English – 13 – Playing Back a Disc 1 Load a disc. • See “Loading a Disc” on the previous page. 2 Pr ess 3 / 8 to start playback. The track number and elapsed playing time of the current track appear on the display . 3 T o stop playback, press 7 .
English – 14 – Continued T o clear the program Press 7 in stop mode. “PR OG CLEARED” scrolls through the display and the PR OG. indicator goes off. • The stored program is cleared when the CD compartment is opened. On the display , “P” represents PR OGRAM and “T” represent TRA CK.
English – 15 – On Screen Display (OSD) for a CD/VCD If you insert a CD/VCD, your TV screen will serve as an additional display for messages (such as PLA Y , STOP , etc.) and information stored on the VCD/CD. Press OSD/DIM r epeatedly to select the inf orma tion to display .
English – 16 – A-B REPEA T This feature is also applicable to the audio CD (e xcept MP3- CD). A certain scene or passa ge of the disc can be play ed back repeatedly . 1 Press A-B on the remote control during playing a CD/VCD to mark the repeat start point.
English – 17 – Playing Back T apes • Use only type I normal tapes. The use of tapes longer than 120 minutes is not recommended, since characteristic deterioration may occur and these tapes easily jam in the pinchrollers and the capstans. Loading a T ape 1 Pr ess 0 EJECT to open the tape deck door .
English – 18 – Recording Recording T apes 1 Load a r ecordable tape into the tape deck. 2 Pr ess T APE/REV .MODE repeatedly to either r ecord one side or both sides of the tape.
English – 19 – Karaoke Microphone Mixing Microphone mixing is a vailable in CD/VCD mode. Connecting a microphone (not supplied) to the unit allo ws you to sing along with the music source. 1 Connect a micr ophone to the MIC jack. 2 Start playing a CD or VCD.
English – 20 – Using the T imers There are three timers a vailable — daily timer , recording timer and sleep timer . Before using the timers, you need to set the built-in clock. (See page 8.) Using Daily Timer W ith the daily timer , y ou can wak e to your fav orite music or radio program.
English – 21 – Using Sleep T imer W ith the sleep timer , you can fall asleep to music. Y ou can set the sleep timer using the remote control when the unit is turned on. How the sleep timer actually works The unit automatically turns off after the specif ied time length passes.

English – 23 – Symptom No sound is heard. Po wer cannot be turned on. The disc does not play . The disc sound is discontinuous. No picture is displayed on TV screen. No color is sho wn on TV screen. Hard to listen to broadcasts because of noise. T ape playback sound is at a very low le vel.
