5 1 T urn on the power . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to pr ess this button to turn on the power . 2 Select the source. • Each time y ou press CD/ CD-CH, the source alter nates between CD* and CD- changer**.
6 RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, and FM3).
7 Notes: • If you r elease your finger fr om the b utton, the manual sear ch will automatically turn off after 5 seconds. • If you hold down the button, the fr equency keeps changing (in 50 kHz intervals for FM and 9 kHz for AM) until you r elease the button.
8 Selecting FM reception mode When an FM stereo broadcast is har d to receive: Press MONO/SSM briefly so that MO indicator lights up on the display (“MONO” appears on the display). Each time you press the b utton, the MO indicator goes on and off alternately .
9 Playing a CD Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws in the CD and star ts playbac k automatically (the CD-in indicator and “LOADING” flash on the displa y). CD OPERA TIONS Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pr essing CD/CD-CH turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
10 Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast-for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ while playing a CD , to fast-f orward the track.
11 T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a tape Y ou can play bac k type I (normal) tapes. 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment. The unit turns on and tape play star ts automatically (“LOADING” flashes on the displa y). When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically star ts playing.
12 Finding the beginning of a tune Multi Music Scan allows y ou to automatically star t playbac k from the beginning of a specified tune. Y ou can specify up to 9 tunes ahead of or before the current tune . During playbac k Specify where (how many tunes ahead of or before the current tune) the tune y ou want is located.
13 Other convenient tape functions Skipping blank portions on the tape Y ou can skip blank por tions between the tunes (Blank Skip). Press B.SKIP/RND so that “B.SKIP” appears on the displa y . Each time you press the b utton, skip function mode turns on and off alternately .

15 CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that y ou use the JVC MP3- compatible CD changer with this unit. This unit cannot read MP3 “ trac ks ” (word “file” is not used to indicate MP3 files, “track” is used in this manual) recorded on CD-Rs, CD-R Ws or CD-ROMs .
16 Connecting the CD changer Before connecting the CD changer • T o prevent short circuits, it is recommended to disconnect the car battery ’ s negativ e terminal and make all electrical connections bef ore connecting the CD changer . • When mounting the unit removed from y our car , be sure to use the screws provided, as instructed.
17 When the current disc is an MP3 disc: Pla yback star ts from the first folder of the current disc once trac k check is completed. The display changes to sho w the follo wing: Locating a track or a particular portion on a disc T o fast-for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ while playing a disc , to f ast-forward the track.
18 Locating a folder on a disc T o skip to the next or previous folders (only for MP3 discs) Press FOLDER while playing an MP3 disc, to go to the ne xt f older . Each time you press the b utton consecutively , the next f older is located and the first trac k in the f older star ts playbac k.
19 ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION Handling cassettes The cassette deck b uilt in this unit requires very little attention, but y ou will be able to e xtend the lif e of the cassette deck if you f ollow the instructions below .
20 Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), and CD-R Ws (Rewritable). • This unit is not compatible with MP3 discs, but can operate a JVC MP3-compatib le CD changer .
21 TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alwa ys serious. Chec k the following points bef ore calling a service center . Symptoms • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers. • This unit does not work at all. • SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memor y) automatic preset does not work.
22 Symptoms •“ NO CD ” appears on the displa y . •“ NO MA G ” appears on the displa y . •“ RESET 8 ” flashes on the displa y . •“ RESET 1 ” – “ RESET 7 ” flashes on the display . • The CD changer does not work at all. • Disc cannot be pla yed back.
