2 ENGLISH How to reset your unit After detaching the control panel, press the reset button on the panel holder using a ball-point pen or a similar tool. This will reset the built-in microcomputer . Note: Y our preset adjustments—such as pr eset channels or sound adjustments—will also be erased.

ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio (or the D AB tuner). Each time you press the b utton, the preset station (or service) number increases, and the selected station (or service) is tuned in.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
7 ENGLISH 4 Adjust the sound as y ou want. (See pages 27 – 29.) Note: While playing a sour ce, you can also show the level meter on the display . F or details, see “Activating the level meter” on pa ge 30. T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source.
8 ENGLISH Canceling the display demonstration When shipped from the factory , display demonstration has been activ ated, and star ts automatically when no operations are done f or about 20 seconds. • It is recommended to cancel the demonstration bef ore you use the unit f or the first time.
9 ENGLISH Setting the clock Y ou can also set the clock system to either 24 hours or 12 hours. 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see pages 31 and 32.) The ne xt-step-operation buttons start flashing.
10 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Each time you press the button, the band changes as follo ws: Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).
11 ENGLISH 3 T une in to a station you want while “Manual Sear ch” is flashing. • If you release y our finger from the button, the manual mode automatically turns off after 5 seconds. • If you hold do wn the button, the frequency keeps changing (in 50 kHz intervals f or FM and 9 kHz for AM—MW/L W) until you release the button.
12 ENGLISH 2 Start automatic preset. 1 Press M (MODE). “ Mode ” appears on the display . The ne xt-step-operation buttons start flashing. 2 Press and hold number b utton 5, while “ Mode ” is still on the display .
13 ENGLISH Selecting a preset station using the preset station list If you f orget what stations are stored in what preset numbers , you can chec k the preset station list, then select your desired station.

15 ENGLISH RDS OPERA TIONS What you can do with RDS RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular programme signals . F or example , the stations send their station names, as well as inf or mation about what type of programme the y broadcast, such as spor ts or music, etc.
16 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see pages 31 and 32.) 2 Press number b utton 4 to select “TUNER”—T uner category of the PSM settings. The “PTY Stnby” (standby) setting screen appears on the displa y .
17 ENGLISH Using PTY Standby Reception PTY Standby Reception allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to your f avorite programme (PTY : Programme T ype) from any source except AM stations.
18 ENGLISH Searching your favorite programme Y ou can search any one of the PTY codes. In addition, you can store y our 6 fav orite programme types in the n umber buttons. When shipped from the f actor y , the f ollowing 6 programme types ha ve been stored in the number buttons (1 to 6).
19 ENGLISH 3 Press and hold the number b utton for more than 2 seconds to store the PTY code selected into the preset number y ou want. Selected preset number flashes f or a while. 4 Press and hold TP/PTY for more than 2 seconds to exit fr om this mode .
20 ENGLISH Setting the T A volume level Y ou can preset the volume le vel f or T A Standby Reception. When a traffic programme is received, the volume le vel automatically changes to the preset le vel. • See also “ Changing the gener al settings (PSM) ” on pages 31 and 32.

22 ENGLISH Playing a CD 1 Open the control panel. Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pr essing CD/CD-CH turns on the unit and starts playback automatically . 2 Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, dra ws the CD and star ts playbac k automatically .
23 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the CD Press 0 . CD play stops and the control panel flips do wn. The CD automatically ejects from the loading slot. The source changes to the previously selected source. • If you change the source , CD play also stops (without ejecting the CD).
24 ENGLISH T o play back tracks repeatedly (T rack Repeat Play) Y ou can play bac k the current track repeatedly . 1 Press M (MODE) while pla ying a CD . “ Mode ” appears on the display . The next-step-oper ation buttons star t flashing. 2 Press number button 2, while “ Mode ” is still on the display .
25 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit CD ejection and can lock a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD/CD-CH, press and hold for more than 2 seconds. “ No Eject ” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the CD is loc ked and cannot be ejected.
26 ENGLISH Changing the display pattern By pressing D (DISP), you can change the inf ormation shown on the display . Each time you press the b utton, the display patterns change as follows: Notes: • When the disc title/performer is shown, the (disc) indicator lights up.
27 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . • “V ol Adj” setting is required f or each source except FM. Before starting “V ol Adj, ” select an appropriate source for which y ou want to make an adjustment.
28 ENGLISH Selecting preset sound modes (iEQ: intelligent equalizer) Y ou can select a preset sound mode (iEQ: intelligent equalizer) suitab le to the music genre. • There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing procedure. If the setting is canceled bef ore you finish, star t from step 1 again.
29 ENGLISH 4 Make adjustments as y ou like . 1) Press ¢ or 4 to select the frequency band—60 Hz, 150 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz, 2.4 kHz, 6 kHz, 12 kHz. 2) Press 5 (up) or ∞ (down) to adjust the level of the selected band within the range of –05 to +05.
30 ENGLISH Activating the level meter Y ou can show the le vel meters on the displa y while pla ying any source. This unit is equipped with three lev el meter patter ns. When shipped from the factory , lev el meter is set to “Off. ” • There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing procedure.
31 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed on the table below and on page 32 b y using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. • The PSM items are grouped into six categories—MO VIE, CLOCK, DISP (display), TUNER, A UDIO, and COLOR.

33 ENGLISH T o set the movie demonstration—Graphics When shipped from the factory , the movie has been activated. • All Demo: If no operation is done f or about 20 seconds, the movie demonstration starts automatically .
34 ENGLISH • On: T ur ns on the ID3 tag display while playing MP3 files . • If an MP3 file does not have ID3 tags, f older name and file name appear . Note: If you change the setting fr om “Off” to “On” while playing an MP3 file , the tag display will be activated when the next f ile starts playing.
35 ENGLISH Selecting the dimmer mode Y ou can dim the display at night automatically or as you set the timer . Note: Auto Dimmer equipped with this unit may not work corr ectly on some vehicles, particularly on those having a contr ol dial for dimming.
36 ENGLISH Changing the display color Y ou can set the display color using the PSM control. Y ou can select your f av or ite color for each source (or f or all sources).
37 ENGLISH Creating your own color — User Y ou can create your own colors—“Da y” and “Night, ” and select them as the displa y color for any desired source. • Da y: Can be used as your user color during the day time (while the headlights are tur ned off), or as set by the timer (“F rom– T o”).
38 ENGLISH Assigning names to the sources Y ou can assign names to CDs (both in this unit and in the CD changer) and the external component. After assigning a name, it will appears on the displa y when you select the source.
39 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
40 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS Playing discs Select the CD changer (CD-CH). * If you have changed “Ext Input” setting to “Line In” (see page 47), you cannot select the CD changer . • When the current disc is an MP3 disc: Playbac k star ts from the first folder of the current disc once file check is completed.
41 ENGLISH • When the current disc is a CD: Pla yback star ts from the first track of the current disc. Notes: • When you pr ess CD/CD-CH, the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to press to turn on the power . • If you change the sour ce, CD changer pla y also stops.

43 ENGLISH Selecting a disc/folder/track using the name lists T o select a disc using the disc lists If you f orget what discs are loaded in the CD changer , you can show the disc title list and select a disc in the list shown on the displa y . • The displa y can show only six disc names at a time.
44 ENGLISH Selecting the playback modes T o play back tracks/files at random (Random Play) 1 Press M (MODE) during play . “ Mode ” appears on the display . The next-step-oper ation buttons star t flashing. 2 Press number b utton 3 repeatedly while “ Mode ” is still on the display .
45 ENGLISH Note: MP3 indicator also lights up if the curr ent playing disc is an MP3 disc. * “Repeat F older” is only applicable for MP3 disc. T o cancel repeat pla y , select “ Repeat Off ” by pressing number b utton 2 repeatedly or press number button 4 in step 2 .
46 ENGLISH Changing the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file, y ou can change the MP3 disc information shown on the displa y . Note: When playing a CD or a CD T ext, you can also c hange the disc information, see page 26 for details.
47 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied). Preparation: F or connecting the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 and the external component, r efer to the Installation/ Connection Manual (separate volume).
48 ENGLISH DAB TUNER OPERA TIONS T uning in to an ensemble and one of the services A typical ensemble has 6 or more prog rammes (services) broadcast at the same time. After tuning in to an ensemble , you can select a service you want to listen to . Before y ou star t.
49 ENGLISH 3 Start searching f or an ensemble. When an ensemble is receiv ed, searching stops. T o stop searching before an ensemble is received, press the same button y ou have pressed f or searching. 4 Select a service (either primary or secondary) you want to listen to.
50 ENGLISH 5 Press and hold the number b utton (in this example, 1) you want to store the selected service into for more than 2 seconds. 6 Repeat the abo ve procedure to store other D AB services into other preset number s. Notes: • Y ou can only preset primary D AB services.
51 ENGLISH 3 Press and hold 5 (up) or ∞ (down) until the preset ensemble (primary service) list for the current band (D AB1, D AB2, or D AB3) appears on the display . 54 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. Press the reset button on the panel holder after detaching the control panel.
55 ENGLISH CD Changer Remedies Inser t discs into the magazine. Inser t discs correctly . Inser t play able discs. Inser t the magazine. Inser t a disc that contains MP3 files. Add the e xtension code — mp3 to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.
56 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Center holder Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), CD-R Ws (Rewritable), and CD T exts. • This unit is not compatible with MP3 discs, but can oper ate a JVC MP3-compatible CD changer .
