2 ENGLISH How to reset your unit While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on atten uator) for more than 2 seconds. This will reset the built-in microcomputer . Notes: • Y our pr eset adjustments—such as pr eset channels or sound adjustments—will also be erased.

5 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS T urning on the power 1 T urn on the power . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to pr ess this button to turn on the power . 2 Select the source.
6 ENGLISH Canceling the display demonstration When shipped from the factory , displa y demonstration has been activ ated, and star ts automatically when no operations are done f or about 20 seconds. • It is recommended to cancel the displa y demonstration bef ore you use the unit f or the first time.
7 ENGLISH Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see page 23.) 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “ CLOCK H ” (hour) if not shown on the displa y . 2 Adjust the hour .
8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
9 ENGLISH Searching for a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Each time you press the button, the band changes as follo ws: Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). Y ou can use any one of them to listen to an FM br oadcast.
10 ENGLISH T o tune in to stations of lower frequencies T o tune in to stations of higher frequencies Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory .
11 ENGLISH 3 Press and hold the number b utton (in this example, 1) for more than 2 seconds. 4 Repeat the abo ve procedure to store other stations into other preset number s. Notes: • A pr eviously pr eset station is erased when a new station is stor ed in the same preset number .
12 ENGLISH Refer “MP3 OPERA TIONS” on pages 17 to 20 for operating MP3 discs. Playing a CD Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws the CD and star ts playbac k automatically . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
13 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast-forward or reverse the track T o go to the next or previous tracks T o go to a particular track directly Press the number button corresponding to the track n umber to star t its playback.
14 ENGLISH T o play back tracks repeatedly (T rack Repeat Play) Y ou can play bac k the current trac k repeatedly . 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying a CD . 2 Press RPT (repeat), while “MODE” is still flashing on the displa y , so that “TRK RPT” appears on the displa y .
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing CD , press and hold 0 for more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the disc is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
16 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION What is MP3? MP3 is an abbre viation of Motion Picture Exper ts Group (or MPEG) Audio La yer 3. MP3 is simply a file format with a data compression ratio of 1:10 (128 Kbps*). * Bit rate is the aver age number of bits that one second of audio data will consume.
17 ENGLISH Refer also to “CD OPERA TIONS” on pages 12 to 15. Playing an MP3 disc Insert an MP3 disc into the loading slot. Note on One-T ouch operation: When a disc is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
18 ENGLISH T o change the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file, you can change the disc information shown on the displa y . Press DISP (display) repeatedly .
19 ENGLISH T o go to a particular folder directly IMPORT ANT: T o directly select the folders using the number button(s), it is required that f olders are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their f older names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD-RWs .
20 ENGLISH T o skip to the next or previous folder Note: If the folder does not contain any MP3 files, it is skipped. Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all files of the current f older or all files on the MP3 disc at random.

22 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as follo ws: Indication T o do: Range BAS * 1 Adjust the bass.
23 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed in the table below b y using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .
24 ENGLISH T o select the dimmer mode—DIMMER Y ou can dim the displa y at night (according to your pref erence). When shipped from the factory , dimmer is deactivated. • OFF: Cancels the dimmer . • ON : Activates the dimmer . T o select the telephone muting—TEL This mode is used when a cellular phone system is connected.
25 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
26 ENGLISH This unit can be remotely controlled as instructed here (with an optionally pur chased remote controller) . W e recommend that y ou use remote controller RM-RK50 or RM-RK60 with your unit. (Ex.: When you are using RM-RK60) Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit.
27 ENGLISH Location of the buttons RM-RK60 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases, and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first file of the pre vious folder while listening to an MP3 disc.
28 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds to reset the unit.
29 ENGLISH Remedies Change the disc. Add the extension code <.mp3> to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.) Skip to another file or change the disc. (Do not add the extension code <.mp3> to non- MP3 files.
30 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Center holder Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), CD-R Ws (Rewritable), and CD T exts. • This unit is also compatible with MP3 discs. How to handle discs When removing a disc from its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the disc out, holding it by the edges.
