6 EN Connections INST ALLING YOUR NEW VCR NOTES: ● The VCR channel is the channel on the TV which will display the audio and video signals from the VCR. The VCR's CH3- CH4 switch, on the back of the VCR, sets the VCR channel to CH3 or CH4. ● The CH3–CH4 switch is preset to the CH3 position.
EN 7 NOTES: n Y our S-VHS VCR allows you to make high resolution recordings. For highest quality recordings we recommend that you record in the S-VHS mode ( Z pg.39) n T o make the most of the Super VHS picture performance we recommend that you use the supplied S-VIDEO cable to connect your VCR to a TV with an S-VIDEO input connector .
8 EN INITIAL SETTINGS Plug & Play The Plug & Play function sets the clock and tuner channels automatically when power is first connected to the VCR.
EN 9 INFORMA TION ● If "AUT O CLOCK SET" or "SEMI-AUTO CLOCK SET" is selected at the Override Auto Clock Set screen on page 12, the clock will be adjusted automatically by the host channel every hour on the hour (except for 1 1:00 PM, midnight, 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM) by the incoming PBS channel clock setting data.
10 EN INITIAL SETTINGS (cont.) Language This VCR offers you the choice to view on-screen messages in English, Spanish or French (not including messages superimposed on the TV picture). Select the desired language using this procedure. The default setting is "ENGLISH".
EN 11 Clock Perform clock setting only if the clock has not been set correctly by the Plug & Play function. Access the Override Auto Clock Set screen to choose the Auto, Semi-Auto or Manual clock setting procedure. Each procedure starts from step 5 .

EN 15 The VCR detects the band (TV or CA TV) and selects the correct band automatically during Auto Channel Set. If necessary , you can check the setting at the Band screen after Auto Channel Set has set the channels.

EN 19 Set Cable Box Brand TURN ON CABLE BOX 1 Select a channel other than channel 9 on your Cable Box. ACCESS CABLE BOX BRAND SET SCREEN 2 At the VCR Plus+ Set-Up screen, press CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS % fi to move the highlight bar (arrow) to “CABLE BOX BRAND SET”, then press OK.
20 EN q MENU OK CH INITIAL SETTINGS (cont.) The VCR Plus+ timer programming system eliminates the need to input channel, date, start and stop time data when setting the timer record function. Simply key in the PlusCode number for the TV program you wish to record and the VCR's timer will be automatically programmed.

ACCESS DBS RECEIVER BRAND SET SCREEN 2 At the Custom Set screen, press CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS % fi to move the highlight bar (arrow) to “DBS RECEIVER BRAND SET”, then press OK.
EN 25 SIMPLE PLA YBACK AND RECORDING Simple Playback LOAD A CASSETTE 1 Make sure the window side is up, the rear label side is facing you and the arrow on the front of the cassette is pointing towards the VCR. Don’ t apply too much pressure when inserting.

EN 29 Video Stabilizer By activating the V ideo Stabilizer you can correct vertical vibrations in the picture when playing back unstable EP recordings that were made on another VCR. When this function is set to "ON", vertical vibration will be automatically corrected.
30 EN PLA YBACK AND RECORDING FEA TURES (cont.) Superimpose This function, switchable between ON and OFF , determines whether or not operational indicators will appear on screen.
EN 31 Select The Soundtrack Y our VCR can record two soundtracks simultaneously (Normal and Hi-Fi) and play back the selected one, or both together . ACCESS MAIN MENU SCREEN 1 Press MENU as many times as necessary during playback or when VCR is in stop mode.

You can find and automatically play back from the start of any recording using the Index Search function. ST AR T SEARCH 1 While the tape is stopped, press SHUTTLE PLUS ™ or £ .
EN 33 Repeat Playback ST AR T REPEA T 1 Press and hold PLA Y (until "PLA Y" blinks on the front display panel) during playback, then release. ● The entire tape is played back 20 times. STOP REPEA T 2 T o stop, press STOP at any time. NOTE: Pressing PLAY , REW , FF , P AUSE or SHUTTLE PLUS ™ or £ also stops Repeat Playback.

A V COMPU LINK provides one touch control of the audio and video compo- nents that are linked via their A V COMPU LINK connectors.

36 EN PLA YBACK AND RECORDING FEA TURES (cont.) Active V ideo Calibration Active V ideo Calibration checks the condition of the tape during recording and playback, and compensates for poor reproduction to provide the best quality recording and playback pictures.
EN 37 Recording Perform steps 1 – 3 on page 26 ("Simple Recording") before continuing. A TTENTION: n As calibration takes place before recording actually starts, there is a delay of about 7 seconds after REC and PLA Y on the remote, or REC on the VCR's front panel, are pressed.

40 EN Stereo And SAP (Second Audio Pr ogram) Y our VCR’s built-in MTS decoder enables reception of Multi- channel TV Sound broadcasts. ● The ST indicator on the front display panel lights during stereo broadcast reception, and SAP lights during SAP program reception.
EN 41 Hi-Fi Audio Recording Level Contr ol Y our VCR allows manual adjustment of the Hi-Fi audio recording level. Normally the preset audio recording level is satisfactory , but if the sound you are going to record is too loud or too low , adjust the audio recording level while referring to the VCR's audio level meters.
42 EN VCR Plus+ Timer Pr ogramming ● Before VCR Plus+ T imer programming, see "VCR Plus+ Setup" on page 20. ● T urn on the TV and select the VCR channel 3 or 4 (or A V mode). T imer recording allows you to program the VCR to automati- cally record a program which will be broadcast at some future time.
EN 43 CHECK/CORRECT INPUT DA T A 6 If the data is correct as it is, go to step 7 . If not, press OK or SHUTTLE PLUS until the item you want to change begins to blink. Then press the appropriate NUMBER keys, CH 5 ∞ or SHUTTLE PLUS % fi to obtain the desired setting.
44 EN TIMER RECORDING (cont.) Y ou can directly program the VCR’ s timer to record up to 8 shows, as far as a year in advance. Both the picture and Hi-Fi audio soundtrack are replaced with new ones, while the normal audio soundtrack remains unchanged. If you wish to change the normal audio track as well, use the audio dubbing function simultaneously .

(REC, PLA Y and P AUSE light up on the front display panel.) ● The TV screen changes from the still picture to the input source you are going to record.
