6 V ideo Channel Set V ideo Channel (RF Output Channel) is the channel on which your TV receives picture and sound signals from the video recorder through the RF cable.
7 IMPORT ANT : Before performing the following steps, make sure the recorder's power is off and there is no cassette inserted in the recorder . ACCESS VIDEO CHANNEL SET MODE 1 Hold down STOP on the recorder until the display panel shows the following.
8 Auto Set Up Auto Channel Set/Auto Clock Set/Auto Guide Program Number Set The Auto Set Up function sets the tuner channels, clock and V ideo Plus+ assigned Guide Program numbers automatically when the button on the recorder/remote is first pressed to power on the recorder after you plug the mains power cord into a mains outlet.
9 Auto Set Up results appear on the display panel ● When both auto channel set and auto clock set have been completed successfully the correct current time will be displayed. ● When auto channel set has been completed successfully but auto clock set has not, "CH" will be displayed.
10 V ideo Plus+ Setup W ith V ideo Plus+, timer programming is greatly simplified because each TV programme has a corresponding code number which your recorder is able to recognise. NOTE: “Guide Program (GUIDE PROG.) number" refers to the assigned TV station numbers, according to broadcast area, for V ideo Plus+ timer recording.
11 When Using A Satellite Receiver And/Or Cable System THE SA TELLITE RECEIVER IS SHOWN CONNECTED TO THE “A V2 IN” (SCAR T) CONNECTOR AND THE CABLE SYSTEM CONNECTED VIA THE AERIAL SOCKET AND TUNED T O, FOR EXAMPLE, PRESET POSITION 6 ON YOUR TV .
12 PLA YBACK Basic Playback The easiest, most basic operation possible with your video recorder is tape playback. Already-recorded signals on a video tape are read by your video recorder and displayed on your TV just like a TV programme.

During playback, you can override this and adjust the tracking manually by pressing the TV PROG . buttons. OVERRIDE AUTOMA TIC TRACKING 1 Press on the remote to engage manual tracking.
15 Index Search Y our recorder automatically marks index codes at the beginning of each recording. This function gives you quick access to any one of 9 index codes in either direction. NOTE: Before starting, make sure the recorder is in the Stop mode.

17 Next Function Memor y Y ou can set your recorder's power to go off automatically after the tape is fully rewound. Before starting, make sure the recorder is in the Stop mode. For Automatic Power Off After T ape Rewind . . . . . . press REW , then press within 2 seconds.
18 TV signals being received by the recorder ’ s built-in tuner can be recorded onto a video tape. Y ou can “capture” a TV programme using your video recorder . RECORDING Basic Recording T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or A V mode).
19 Recording Features Record One Pr ogramme While W atching Another SELECT PRESET TO W A TCH 1 Once recording is in progress, all you need to do is to set the preset controls on the TV for the station you wish to view .
20 B.E.S.T . Picture System The B.E.S.T . (Biconditional Equalised Signal T racking) system checks the condition of the tape in use during recording and playback, and compensates to provide the highest-possible recording and playback pictures. The default setting for both recording and playback is “ON”.

22 Video Plus+ Timer Recording ACCESS TIMER PROGRAMMING SCREEN 1 Press PROG . The front display panel looks like this: ENTER PLUSCODE NUMBER 2 Press the NUMBER keys to enter the PlusCode number of a programme you wish to record. ● If you make a mistake, press CANCEL to backspace and then input the correct number .
23 SET T APE SPEED 4 Press SP/LP ( ) to set the tape speed. RETURN TO NORMAL SCREEN 5 Press OK . ● Repeat steps 1 – 5 for each additional programme. ENGAGE RECORDER’S TIMER MODE 6 Press TIMER . The recorder turns off automatically . NOTE: T o Delay The Stop T ime .
24 Regular Timer Pr ogramming If you don’ t know the PlusCode number for the programme you wish to record, use the following procedure to set your recorder to timer-record the programme. Remember , the clock must be set before you can progamme the timer ( Z pg.

26 Check And Cancel Programmes ACCESS PROGRAMME DISPLA Y AND/OR SCREEN 1 Press PROG. CHECK. ● The display panel shows the programme start time. Pressing OK changes the display to the programme stop time, then the date and preset position.
27 Auto Timer When the Auto T imer is set to ON the timer is automatically engaged when the recorder power is turned off and automati- cally disengaged when the recorder is powered back on.

35 Receiving NICAM Stereo And Bilingual Pr ogrammes (HR-J645EK/ES Only) Y our recorder is equipped with a Digital stereo sound decoder (NICAM), making reception of stereo and bilingual broadcasts possible. When the recorder is tuned to a different station, the type of broadcast being received will be displayed on the TV screen for a few seconds.
