– 6 – Getting Started Supplied Accessories Make sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied.
– 7 – 1 Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. • If the AM loop antenna wire is covered with vinyl, r emove the vinyl by twisting it as shown in the dia gram. 2 T urn the AM loop antenna until you ha ve the best r ece ption.
– 8 – Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can connect both analog and digital equipment. • DO NOT connect any equipment while the unit is on. • DO NOT plug in any equipment until all connections are complete.
– 9 – About sounds output through the rear terminals • Through the A UX OUT (RIGHT/LEFT) jacks: Analog stereo signals are output. When playing a source encoded with Dolby Digital* ( ) or with MPEG Multichannel ( ), multichannel signals are mixed to the right front and left front channels, then output.
– 10 – Use a screwdri ver to rotate the v oltage selector so the voltage number the voltag e mar k is pointing at is the same as the voltag e wher e you are plugging in the unit. (See the back cov er page.) DO NOT plug in before setting the voltage selector on the rear of the unit and all connection procedures are complete.
– 11 – Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o turn on the unit, press ST ANDBY/ON so that the ST ANDBY lamp goes off. T o turn off the unit (on standby), press ST ANDBY/ON again so that the ST ANDBY lamp lights up. • A little po wer is always consumed ev en while the unit is on standby .

– 15 – Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning into a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes into the previously recei ved station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.

– 17 – Disc Structure DVD A D VD disc consists of Titles , and each title may be di vided into some Chapters . For e xample, if a D VD disc contains some movies, each movie may ha ve its o wn title number, and it may be further divided into some cha pters.
– 18 – Selecting the Subtitle For DVD and SVCD While playing a disc containing subtitles in diff erent languages, you can select the subtitle to be displayed on the TV screen. • Y ou can set your fa vorite subtitle language as the initial language sho wn on the screen.

– 22 – Reverse Search T o fast-reverse the chapter or track, press 1 while playing a disc. • Each time you press the button, the search speed changes as follo ws: T o go back to normal play, press D VD 3¥8 (or DVD 3 on the remote control). No sound comes out during Forw ard/Rev erse Search.
– 23 – Menu-Driven Playback PBC operation concept Menu Operations Menu-dri ven playback is possible while playing back a D VD with menu-dri ven features or a SVCD or VCD with the Playback Control (PBC) function. 7 When playing a DVD D VD discs generally have their o wn men us or title lists.
– 24 – Selecting Playback Modes This unit cannot accept any disc oper ations while reading disc contents. Programming the Playing Order of the T itles and T racks—Program Play Y ou can arrange the order in which the titles (for D VD) and tracks (for SVCD, VCD and CD) play before y ou start playing.
– 25 – On the r emote control: 1 Load discs. • If the current playing source is not the D VD/SVCD/ VCD/CD player press D VD 3 , then 7 before going to the next step. 2 Pr ess PLA Y MODE. The play mode screen appears on the TV . 3 Pr ess CONTROL + or − to mov e to “PR OGRAM, ” then press ENTER.
– 26 – Playing at Random—Random Play The titles and tracks of all loaded discs are played at random. • When you use Random play for a SVCD or VCD with the PBC function acti vated, the PBC function is turned of f. • Random Play cannot be used on some D VD discs.
– 27 – A-B Repeat While playing, you can also select a portion you want to repeat. • During Program play , Random play or Repeat play A-B Repeat play cannot be selected. • A-B Repeat is not performed between different c hapters or dif ferent titles on a D VD.
– 28 – Still Picture/Frame-by-Frame Playback Y ou can still a picture and adv ance the still picture frame by frame. Still picture On the r emote control ONL Y : Press 8 once during pla y .
– 29 – Selecting the Picture Brightness —Theater Position Y ou can select picture brightness from among three options according to the source program, lighting condition of the room and/or personal preference. On the unit: Press THEA TER POSITION during play .
– 30 – Y ou can play back type I, type II, and type IV tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Press EJECT ( 0 ) f or the deck y ou want to use. 2 Put a cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently .
– 31 – Using DSP Surround Mode S THEATER L THEATER LIVECLUB PAVILION CHURCH OFF (DSP off) In order to reproduce a more acoustic sound field in your listening room while playing any sour ce , you can use follo wing DSP Surround modes. • DSP Surround mode can be also used for a disc encoded with Dolby Digital 5.
– 32 – Recording Recording a T ape on Deck B On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press EJECT 0 f or the deck B. 2 Put a recorda ble cassette into deck B. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Start playing the sour ce—FM, AM, D VD/SVCD/VCD/CD player , deck A, or auxiliary equipment connected to A UX jacks.
– 33 – SVCD/VCD/CD Direct Recording Y ou can easily record sound of a SVCD or VCD without the PBC function or CD onto a tape. • Y ou can also record the tracks in order you hav e made the program. • This function cannot be used for recording D VDs.
– 34 – Auto Edit Recording By using Auto Edit Recording, you can record disc tracks to fit the tape . Auto Edit Recording makes a program by selecting disc tracks in numerical order . Howe ver , to prev ent the end of the last track on the front side from being cut of f, the last track is selected so as to fit on the remaining ta pe length.
– 35 – Using the Microphones T o apply an echo to your voice Y ou can apply echo ef fect to your voice. On the r emote control ONL Y : Press ECHO while holding down SHIFT . • Each time you press the buttons, the echo le vel changes as follows. As the number increases, a stronger echo eff ect applies to your voice .
– 36 – T o use microphone only W ithout any background sound, you can use your microphone(s), and record it if you want. 1 Connect the microphone(s). 2 Press D VD 3 / 8 (or D VD 3 on the r emote control, then 7 . No background sound will be heard.
– 37 – Reserving Karaoke Songs —Karaoke Program Play Y ou can determine the playback order of the titles or tracks on the D VD/SVCD/VCD/CD player . Y ou can program up to 12 steps. • Y ou cannot use r eserve function when a SVCD or VCD with the PBC function is played back.
– 38 – Operating the On-Screen Menu Using the on-screen menus, you can store the initial selection for subtitle languages and audio languages (sound) for D VD playback as well as other settings. • The on-screen menu disappears if no operation is done for fi ve minutes.

– 42 – 7 Monitor types • 4:3 LB (Letter Box) : Select this when vie wing on TV whose aspect ratio is 4:3. While vie wing a wide screen picture, the black bars appear on the top and the bottom of the screen. • 16:9 WIDE : Select this when viewing on TV whose aspect ratio is 16:9.
– 43 – Setting the Parental Lock Level Using this function, you can restrict playback of D VD containing violent scenes (and those not suitable for your family members). • This function is only possible for the D VDs containing such rating le vel information (Le vel 1 to Lev el 8).
– 44 – Using the T imers There are three timers a vailable—Daily T imer, Recor ding T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. (See page 11.) Using Daily Timer W ith Daily T imer , you can wake to your fa vorite music or radio program.

– 47 – T imer Priority Since each timer can be set separately , you may wonder what happens if the setting for these timers ov erlaps. Here are examples. Recording Timer has priority over Daily Timer and Sleep Timer . • If Daily T imer is set to come on while Recording T imer is operating, Daily T imer will not come on at all.
– 48 – Using A V COMPU LINK Control System The A V COMPU LINK control system allows you to use JVC’ s TV with simple operations. T o use A V COMPU LINK control system, you need to connect this unit and a TV thr ough the A V COMPU LINK terminals.
– 49 – T o get the best perfor mance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism clean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
