1 ENGLISH INSTR UCTIONS Model GM-V42E Thank you f or purchasing this JVC Monitor . Before using the monitor , read this manual carefully so that you kno w how to use the Monitor correctly . Refer to this manual whenever questions or problems about operation arise.

3 ENGLISH – F or United Kingdom: This product is equipped with a three-wire plug. This plug will fit only into a grounded po wer outlet. If you are unab le to inser t the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not defeat the saf ety pur pose of the grounded plug.
4 Parts Identification Remote Control 6 MUTING button (page 14) Use this button to turn off the volume immediately . Pressing the button again will r esume the previous volume level. 7 2 / 3 / 5 / ∞ buttons Use these buttons to select menu items or make adjustments.
5 ENGLISH Monitor: Front View 1 Remote sensor/power lamp Point the front end of the wir eless remote contr ol toward here. When the Monitor is turned on, the power lamp glows green. It glows orange in standby mode. 2 Self-diagnostic lamps (page 39) These lamps light/flash if something abnormal occurs with the Monitor .

8 Preparations Checking the Accessories The following accessories are included with the Monitor . Check for them. If any item is missing, please contact the dealer where you purchased the Monitor . • Remote control (RM-C579) x 1 • Power cord x 2 (3 for Australia) (Use the one matching the wall outlet.
9 ENGLISH Precautions • When mounting the Monitor vertically , consult y our dealer . (See also pag e 13.) • When installing the Monitor , be sure to use a dedicated Stand Unit, W all Mounting Unit, or Monitor Hanger Unit, depending on a particular case.
10 Precautions • Before making connections, turn of f all the equipment. • Plugs should be firmly inserted; poor connection could cause noise. • T o unplug a cord, be sure to grasp its plug and pull it out. • Connect the power cord after having finished all other connections.

14 Basic Operations Daily Operations 1 T ur n on the main power . Set POWER on the back of the Monitor to “ | (on) ” . The POWER lamp on the upper left of the fr ont panel glows orange. 2 T ur n on the power . Press POWER ON on the r emote control to turn the power on.
15 ENGLISH Changing the Aspect Ratio Precautions for using the screen mode switching function • This Monitor features a scr een mode switching (aspect ratio change) function. If you select a mode differ ent in aspect ratio from softwar e such as TV programs, the pictur e may look differ ent from original pictur e.

23 ENGLISH Changing the Resistance of the RGB B Input T erminals Y ou can set the resistance of the two of the RGB B input terminals to either HIGH (1 k Ω ) or LOW (75 Ω ): • HD/Cs (Horizontal sync/Composite) terminal • VD (V ertical sync) terminal.

26 Other Convenient Functions (Continued) Prohibiting the Monitor’ s Button Operations This function allows you to prohibit the button operations on the Monitor to prevent malfunction or avoid tampering. 1 On the remote contr ol: Pr ess MENU/EXIT while holding VOLUME – to display the Setup Menu.
27 ENGLISH Setting the High-Definition Signal T ypes Y ou can select one of the High-Definition (HD) signal types through the COMPONENT/RGB B terminals — 1080i or 1035i. Normally set it to “ 1080i. ” • W ithout setting “ RGB/COMPO. ” correctly , you cannot show any picture though you select the COMPONENT input (see page 22).

30 Other Convenient Functions (Continued) Preventing the Afterimage Effect After showing the same still picture on the scr een, reverse the color on the scr een using this function so that you can avoid the screen fr om being burned in with the still pictur e.
31 ENGLISH ST AR T TIME Y ou can adjust the time to activate the function. • Set the hour and minute following steps 4 to 6 in “ Setting the Clock ” (page 28). END SET Y ou can activate/deactivate the Color-Reverse Of f T imer . • Press 2 / 3 to select “ ON ” or “ OFF .
32 Checking the Timer Battery Y ou can check the remaining time available from the timer battery on the TIMER, COLOR-REVERSE, and REFRESH menus. When the battery becomes weak (BA TTERY LOW) “ BA TTER Y LO W ” appears on the screen. When the battery runs out (BA TTERY EMPTY) “ BA TTER Y EMPTY ” appears on the screen.
33 ENGLISH Resetting All the Menu Settings Y ou can reset all the Menu settings and adjustments at a time, except the use time (HOUR METER). 1 On the remote contr ol: Pr ess MENU/EXIT while holding VOLUME – to display the Setup Menu. On the Monitor: Pr ess MENU while holding 2 to display the Setup Menu.

37 ENGLISH ST A TUS DISPLA Y Sets if you want the input terminal and the type of signal to be indicated on the screen just after inputs are switched. (See page 25.) CONTROL LOCK Sets the Monitor so that it cannot be operated with the buttons on itself.
38 P ower is not supplied. P ower is suddenl y turned on or off. Video image does not appear , or audio sound does not occur . The picture becomes blurred. Color is abnormally dark or bright. Color is poor or unstable. Color is suddenly rever sed or whitened.
