2 ENGLISH How to reset your unit While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds. This will reset the built-in microcomputer . Notes: • Y our preset adjustments—suc h as preset c hannels or sound adjustments—will also be erased.

ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases, and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first file of the pre vious folder while listening to an MP3 disc.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
ENGLISH 7 BASIC OPERA TIONS T urning on the power 1 T urn on the power . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to pr ess this button to turn on the power . 2 Select the source.
ENGLISH 8 Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see page 22.) 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “CLOCK H” (hour) if not shown on the displa y . 2 Adjust the hour .
ENGLISH 9 RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
10 ENGLISH T o tune in to stations of lower frequencies T o tune in to stations of higher frequencies MO (monaural) indicator 3 T une in to a station y ou want while “M” (manual) is still flashing. • If you release y our finger from the button, the manual mode will automatically turns off after 5 seconds.
11 ENGLISH T o tune in to stations of lower frequencies T o tune in to stations of higher frequencies Preset number flashes f or a while. 4 Repeat the abo ve procedure to store other stations into other preset number s. Notes: • A previously pr eset station is erased when a ne w station is stor ed in the same preset number .
12 ENGLISH Refer “MP3 OPERA TIONS” on pages 16 to 19 f or operating MP3 discs. Playing a CD Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws the CD and star ts playbac k automatically . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD CD-CH turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
13 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast-for ward or reverse the track T o go to the next or previous tracks T o go to a particular track directly Press the number button corresponding to the trac k number to star t its playbac k.
14 ENGLISH T o play back tracks repeatedly (T rack Repeat Play) Y ou can play bac k the current track repeatedly . 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying a CD . 2 Press RPT (repeat), while “MODE” is still flashing on the displa y , so that “TRK RPT” appears on the displa y .
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing CD CD-CH, press and hold 0 f or more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the disc is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
16 ENGLISH Refer also to “CD OPERA TIONS” on pages 12 to 15. Playing an MP3 disc Insert an MP3 disc into the loading slot. Note on One-T ouch operation: When a disc is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD CD-CH turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
17 ENGLISH T o skip 10 files* forwards to the last file T o skip 10 files* backwards to the first file T o change the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file, you can change the MP3 disc inf or mation shown on the displa y . Press DISP (display) repeatedly .
18 ENGLISH Press the number button corresponding to the folder n umber to star t playing the first file in the selected f older. • T o select a folder n umber from 01 – 06: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a folder n umber from 07 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) f or more than one second.
19 ENGLISH Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all files of the current folder or all files on the MP3 disc at random. 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying an MP3 disc.

21 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as f ollows: Indication T o do: Range BAS * 1 Adjust the bass.
22 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed in the table below by using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .
23 ENGLISH T o select the dimmer mode—DIMMER Y ou can dim the display at night (according to your pref erence). When shipped from the f actor y , dimmer is deactivated.
24 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
25 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS Playing discs Select the CD changer (CD-CH). * If you have changed “EXT IN” setting to “LINE IN” (see page 23), you cannot select the CD c hanger . • When the current disc is an MP3 disc: Pla yback star ts from the first folder of the current disc once file check is completed.
26 ENGLISH T o go to a particular disc directly Press the number button corresponding to the disc number to star t its pla yback (while the CD changer is playing). • T o select a disc number from 01 – 06: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a disc number from 07 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) f or more than one second.
27 ENGLISH T o skip to the next or previous folder (only for MP3 discs) T o show the disc information for CD T ext and MP3 discs This is possible only when connecting a JVC CD changer equipped with CD T ext and/or MP3 disc inf or mation reading capability .
28 ENGLISH Selecting the playback modes T o play back tracks/files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random/Magazine Random Play) 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode during play . 2 Press RND (random), while “MODE” is still flashing on the display .
29 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied).
30 ENGLISH ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION Playing a CD-R or CD-RW • Use only “finalized” CD-Rs or CD-RWs . • This unit can play back only the files of the same type which is first detected if a disc includes both audio CD (CD-D A) files and MP3 files.
31 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds to reset the unit.
32 ENGLISH Remedies Change the disc. Add the e xtension code <.mp3> to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.) Skip to another file or change the disc. (Do not add the extension code <.mp3> to non- MP3 files.
33 ENGLISH About mistracking: Mistrac king may result fr om driving on extr emely r ough r oads. This does not damage the unit and the disc, but will be annoying . W e recommend that you stop disc pla y while driving on such r ough roads. Remedies Inser t discs into the magazine.

T o minimize this possibility , periodically wipe the connectors with a cotton sw ab or cloth moistened with alcohol, being careful not to damage the connectors.
