6 Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece supplied. • AM loop antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If any item is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
7 T o connect AM and FM antennas 1 Connect the supplied AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminal. Place the antenna aw ay from the unit and adjust its position for the best reception.
8 Basic and Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , f irst set the unit ’ s c lock. When you plug in the po wer cord, “ AM12:00 ” starts flashing on the display . Y ou can set the clock when the unit is either turned on or in standby mode.
9 Selecting the Source T o select the source, press CD 6 , T APE, FM/AM, or A UX. • When you select CD as the source, playback starts automatically . T o operate the tuner (FM or AM), see pages 10 and 11. T o operate the CD player , see pages 12 to 14.
10 On the r emote control ONL Y : 1 T une in to the station y ou want to preset. • See “ T uning in to a Station ” on the left column. 2 Press PLA Y MODE. The preset number starts flashing on the display . • The PRGM (program) indicator lights up on the display .
11 T uning in to a Preset Station On the r emote control ONL Y : 1 Pr ess FM/AM to select either “ FM ” or “ AM. ” The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei v ed station — either FM or AM. • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
12 2 Place a disc corr ectly with its label side up, then press do wn on the portions ar ound the disc ’ s center hole until you hear a c lick. 3 Close the disc cov er gently . 4 Press CD 6 . The unit automatically turns on and the source changes to the CD player .
13 Basic Disc Operations While playing a disc, you can do the follo wing operations. T o stop playing for a moment During play , press CD 3 / 8 . While pausing, the elapsed playing time flashes on the display . T o resume playing, press CD 3 / 8 ag ain.
14 Playing at Random — Random Play Y ou can play the tracks at random. On the r emote control ONL Y : Press PLA Y MODE during playing. The RANDOM indicator lights up on the display . T o exit from Random Play , press PLA Y MODE again. The RANDOM indicator goes of f.
15 4 Press T APE. The unit automatically turns on and the source changes to the tape deck. • Y ou can select to the tape by pressing T APE on the remote control. 5 Press # (play). The tape starts playing. • When the end of the tape is reached, playing stops.
16 Listening to the External Equipment Y ou can listen to the e xternal equipment such as MD recorder , cassette deck, or other auxiliary . • First, make sure that the e xternal equipment is properly connected to the unit. (See page 7.) 1 Set the volume le vel to the minimum position.
17 IMPORT ANT : • It should be noted that it may be unlawful to re-r ecord pr e-recorded tapes, r ecords, or discs without the consent of the owner of copyright in the sound or video recording , broadcast or cable pr ogram and in any literary , dramatic, musical, or artistic embodied therein.
18 Y ou cannot press ‡ (r ecording) in the following cases: • If no cassette is inserted. • If a protected cassette is inserted. T o stop recording f or a moment, press * . The recording is paused, but the CD pla yback does not stop. T o r esume recording, press * again.
19 3 Press SET to set the on-time y ou want the unit to tur n on. The hour indication starts flashing on the display . (1) Press ¢ or 4 to set the hour , then press SET . (2) Press ¢ or 4 to set the minute, then press SET . If you want to change the time setting, press CANCEL.
20 T o deactivate the timer temporarily , (1) Press CLOCK/TIMER repeatedly to select the T imer Number indicator to cancel. The on-time appears and the T imer Number indicator begins to b link. (2) Press CANCEL. The Timer Number indicator disappears and the display returns to the normal indication.
21 Maintenance T o get the best perfor mance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes and mechanism clean. General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your discs, tapes and the mechanism clean. • Store discs and tapes in their cases, and keep them in cabinets or on shelves.
22 If you are ha ving a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for ser vice. If you cannot solve the problem from the hints gi ven here, or the unit has been ph ysically damaged, call a qualified person, such as your dealer , for service.
