6 Intr oduction Y o u can operate your TV using the remote control of this system. Setting the manufacturer code 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to TV. 2 Hold down F TV. • Hold down F TV until you finish step 4. 3 Press ENTER and release. 4 Press number buttons (1-9, 0).
7 Connecting the AM loop antenna (supplied) 3 Turn the AM loop antenna to find the best position for radio reception. Place the AM loop antenna as far from the receiver as possible. • Do not place the AM loop antenna on a metallic table or close to a TV , computer , or other electric appliances.

9 There is no difference between the left and right speakers. CAUTION • Do not short-circ uit the ª and · speaker terminals. Doing so ma y damage the receiver . • Do not connect other speakers toge ther with the supplied speake rs. The change in i mpedance may damage the re ceiver and the spea kers.

11 Connecting the subwoofer When you connect this system with an amplifier- built-in subwoof er (not supplied), you can enjoy a more dynamic bass sound. Refer to the manual of the subw oof er for de tails. T o produce sound from the su bwoof er , press S.

16 Basic operations Changing the brightness of the display windows on the receiver and the DVD player Y ou ca n set the brightness of the displa y windows on the receiver and the D VD play er respectively . 7 When the receiver/DVD player is turned on 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to RECEIVER or DVD.
17 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to RECEIVER. 2 Press BASS ADJUST. Display on the receiver 3 While the select able values are flashing, press 2 or 3 (cursor) to select the value of the bass frequency. • Y ou can select “10 0 Hz”, “120 Hz” or “140 Hz”.
18 Basic operations/Listening to radio Some countr ies space AM stations 9 kHz apar t, and other countr ies use 10 kHz spacing. If you purchased the system at a post e xch ange, select either spacing accordin g to the countr y where you will use the system.
19 Presetting radio stations in the receiver allows y ou to easily tune in to a radio station. Presetting radio stations Y o u can store up to 30 FM radio stations and up to 15 AM radio stations. 1 Select a radio station you want to store ( A “Selecting a radio station” on page 18).

26 Play ing back D VDs/CDs Y ou can skip within a file at about 5 minute intervals . This is useful especially when you wa nt to skip within a long file. 7 When a disc is played back 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to DVD. 2 Press 2 or 3 (cursor).
27 7 When a disc is stopped or played back 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to DVD. 2 Press MENU/PL or TOP MENU/ PG. • The menu screen will be display ed. •O n l y T OP MENU/PG can be used for D VD AU D I O s . 3 Press 5 / / / 2 / 3 (cursor) (only for a DVD VIDEO or DVD AUDIO) or the number buttons to select the desired track.
28 Play ing back D VDs/CDs Y ou ca n lock the disc tra y to prevent the disc from being ejected. Setting Turn off the DVD player. And while holding down 7 on the DVD player, press 0 on the DVD player. • “LOCKED” appears i n the display windo w on the D VD play er .

34 Play ing back D VDs/CDs 7 When a disc is played back or paused 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to DVD. 2 Press VFP. • The current setting will appear on the TV screen. • The “GAMMA” setting adjusts the brightness of neutral tints while maintaining the brightness of dar k and bright por tions.
35 Some D VD A UDIOs may hav e pictures called B.S .P . (Browsab le Still Pictures). The pictures ca n be viewed as if you are turni ng pages. NOTE • You can use this function when “B.S.P.” lights up in the display window on the DVD player. 7 When a disc is played back 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to DVD.

41 Connect the other audio equipment to this system in advance ( A page 12). 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to RECEIVER. 2 Press AUX to select “AUX-DIGITAL” or “AUX”. • Each time you press AU X , the displa y on the receiver toggles between “A UX-DIGIT AL ” and “A UX”.
42 Listening to the sound of other audio equipment/Timer When the time you specif y elapses , the system will be tur ned off automatically . 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to RECEIVER. 2 Press SLEEP. • Each time you press the button, the time indicated in the display window on the receiver changes (in minutes).

NOTE • “AV COMPU LINK” is printed for terminals on some JVC-manufactured TVs.
46 Reference 7 Important cautions Installation of the syste m • Select a place which is lev el, dr y and neither too hot nor too cold; between 5°C and 35°C (between 41°F and 95°F). • Leav e sufficient dist ance between the system and the TV . • Do not use the system in a place subject to vibration.
47 • Discs should be finalized before being pla yed bac k. 1 A D VD-R recorded in multi-border format is also play able (e xcept for dual la yer discs). 2 O nly when a D VD-R is co mpatible with CPRM (Content Protection for Recordab le Media ), D VD VR format can be used.
48 Reference Discs that cannot be played back • The follo wing discs cannot be played bac k: D VD-ROM (e xcept for MP3/WMA/JPEG/ASF/DivX/ MPEG1/MPEG2 format), D VD-RAM, CD-ROM, CD-I (CD-I Ready), Photo CD , SACD , etc. Play ing back these discs will gener ate noise and damage the speakers.
49 DVD VIDEO/DVD VR A D VD VIDEO consists of “titles” and each title may be divided into “chapters”. A D VD VR consists of “original programs” or “play lists” and each origina l program/pla y list may be divided into “chapters”. . DVD AUDIO A D VD A UDIO consists of “groups” and each group ma y be divided into “tracks”.
50 Reference When you encounter a problem that seems to be a fault, check the f ollowing points before contacting the JVC ser vice center : Power source 7 Power does not come on. • The power cord of the receiver or the D VD play er is not con nected to an A C outlet.
51 Other 7 You cannot switch audio or subtitles between languages. • The disc does not contain multiple languages. → If only a single lang uage is recorded on the disc, you cannot sw itch the current language to ano ther language . ( A page 32) 7 No subtitle is displayed.

13 3 Press SCAN MODE. • The current video signal type will flash. 4 Press 2 , 3 (cursor) or SCAN MODE repeatedly to select the video signal type suitable for the TV. • Y ou can select “RGB”, “Y/C” or “PROGRESSIVE”. • Select “RGB” when a TV co mpatible with composite video signals is connected to the A V OUT ter minal.

20 Listening to radio 2 Press DISPLAY (Radio Data System) repeatedly. PS (Program Ser vice): While the receiver is searching for Radio Data System inf or mation, “W AIT PS” appears and then the radio station names will be display ed. “NO PS” appears if no signal is received.
21 PTY codes: None: Undefined. Finance: Stock market reports, commerce and trading. New s: New s. Children: Programs targeted at a y oung audience. Affairs: T opical program expanding or enlarging upon news-debate or analysis. Social: Programs about sociolog y , history , geograph y , psychology and society .
22 Listening to radio Switching to a program type of your choice temporarily The Enhanced Other Networks function allows the receiver to s witch temporarily to a broad cast program of y our choice (T A, News , or Info ) from a different r adio station when you are listening to a Radio Data System radi o station.
23 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to DVD. 2 Press 0 OPEN/CLOSE. • The disc tray ejects. 3 Place a disc. • To listen to an 8 cm disc, pl ace it on the inner hollow of the disc tray. 4 Press 3 (play) or DVD. NOTE • You can also use SOURCE SE LECT on the receiver to select a loaded disc as t he sound source.
