1 Power sources • When unplugging the unit from the w all outlet, alw ays pull on the plug, not the A C power cord. DO NO T handle the AC po wer cord with wet hands. Moisture condensation Moisture may condense on the lenses inside the unit in the following cases: • After starting to heat the room.

6 Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece supplied. • FM antenna (1) • AM (MW) loop antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If any item is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
7 AM (MW) antenna 1 Connect the AM (MW) loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 2 T urn the AM (MW) loop antenna until y ou ha ve the best reception. T o connect an outdoor AM (MW) antenna When reception is poor , connect a single vinyl-co vered wir e to the AM EXT terminal and extend it horizontally .
8 T o remove the speaker grilles The speaker grilles are remo vable as illustrated belo w: T o remov e the speaker grille, insert your fingers at the top of the speaker grille, then pull to wards you. Also pull the bottom to wards you. T o attach the speaker grille, follo w the illustration abov e.
9 Basic and Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , first set the unit’ s c lock. When you plug in the po wer cord, “0:00” starts flashing on the display . Y ou can set the clock when the unit is either turned on or in standby mode.
10 T o turn off the unit automatically (Auto Standby) Using the Auto Standby function, the unit automatically turns itself off if no sound comes in f or more than 3 minutes when “ CD ” or “ T APE ” is selected as the source.
11 Reinforcing the Bass Sound The richness and fullness of the bass sound is clearly maintained regardless of ho w low you set the v olume — Activ e Hyper Bass Pro. • This function also af fects the sound from headphones. • This function only af fects the playback sound, and does not af fect your recording.
12 Adjusting the T one Y ou can adjust the bass le vel (low frequenc y rang e) and the treble le vel (high frequenc y rang e) within a range of “– 5 ” to “ +5. ” When shipped, each le vel is set to “ +2. ” • This function also af fects the sound from headphones.
13 T uning in to a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM to select either “FM” or “AM. ” The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei ved station—either FM or AM (MW). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM (MW).
14 4 Pr ess SET a gain. “ STORED ” appears on the display for a while. The tuned station in step 1 is stored in the preset number selected in step 3 .
15 RDS (Radio Data System) allo ws FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular pr ogram signals. For e xample, the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of program the y broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.
16 Switching T emporarily to a Program T ype of Y our Choice The Enhanced Other Networks function allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to a broadcast program of your choice (T A, News, and Info) from a dif ferent station. • The function only works when you are listening to a preset FM RDS stations providing the data.
17 Loading Discs On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press one of the disc eject b uttons (CD1 0 – CD5 0 ) f or the disc tray you want to load a disc onto. The unit automatically turns on and the selected disc tray comes out. 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
18 Playing Back All the Entire Discs —Continuous Play Y ou can play discs continuously . 1 Load discs into the 5-CD Changer . 2 Select a disc to play . On the r emote contr ol: 1 Press 3 / 8 CD, then 7 . 2 Press DISC UP or DISC DO WN to select the disc y ou want.
19 T o start playing a disc during playback of another disc On the r emote contr ol: Press DISC UP or DISC DO WN. Each time you press the button, the ne xt or previous disc is selected and playback starts. On the unit: Press DISC SELECT repeatedly . Each time you press the button, the ne xt disc is selected and playback starts.
20 4 Pr ess the number buttons to select a track fr om the disc selected in the abov e step. • For ho w to use the number buttons, see “ T o go to another track directly using the number buttons ” on the pre vious page. 5 Pr ogr am other tracks y ou want.
21 2 Press SET at the starting point fr om which y ou want to repeat (point A). 3 Press SET again at the end point to which y ou want to repeat (point B). The unit automatically locates point A and starts repeating the portion between points A and B. T o cancel A-B Repeat Play , press REPEA T to select “ REPEA T OFF .
22 T o remov e the cassette, push 0 on the unit. The and tape operation indicators go of f. Pressing 0 (tape eject) button also tur ns on the unit. DO NO T press 0 dur ing tape pla y . T o play both sides—Reverse Mode Y ou can set the deck to play just one side or both sides of a tape once, or both sides continuously .
23 IMPORT ANT : • It should be noted that it may be unlawful to r e-record pr e-recorded tapes, r ecords, or discs without the consent of the owner of copyright in the sound or video recording , broadcast or cable prog ram and in any literary , dramatic, musical, or artistic embodied therein.
24 Recording Discs — Disc Synchronized Recording Y ou ha ve three methods to record from discs onto a tape. Using the synchronized recording methods, you can start and stop disc play and recording at the same time. • One Disc Synchr onized Recording — Records the entire disc.
25 T o stop while recording, press 7 . The tape stops after 4 seconds. T o remo ve the cassette, press 0 on the unit. When recording discs A 4-second blank is automatically made on the tape before each track. T o record without the blank, follow the procedure belo w: 1 Load discs you want to record into the 5-CD Changer .
26 First T rack Recording First T rack Recording allows you to record the f irst track of each loaded disc. 1 Insert a recorda ble cassette into the cassette compartment with the exposed part of the tape facing left. 2 Load discs into the 5-CD Changer .
27 Using the T imers DAIL Y On the r emote control ONL Y : 1 Press CLOCK/TIMER. The (timer) indicator lights up and the timer mode indicator ( D AIL Y or REC ) flashes on the display . The unit enters the on-time setting mode. 2 Set the on-time y ou want the unit to turn on.
28 6 Press DISC UP or DISC DO WN to set the volume le vel, then press CLOCK/TIMER. • Y ou can select the v olume le vel between “ V OLUME – –” and “ VOLUME 0 ” to “ V OLUME 40. ” If you select “ V OLUME – – , ” the v olume le vel is set to the current v olume.
29 If y ou set the Sleep Timer after the Daily T imer star ts playing the selected source The Daily timer is canceled. The unit turns of f when the Sleep T imer shut-off time comes. Y ou cannot set the Sleep T imer while the Recording T imer is working.
30 Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes and mechanism clean. General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your discs, tapes and the mechanism clean. • Store discs and tapes in their cases, and k eep them in cabinets or on shelves.
31 If you are ha ving a pr oblem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for service. If you cannot solve the problem from the hints gi ven here, or the unit has been physically damaged, call a qualif ied person, such as your dealer , for service.
