– 6 – Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. – 7 – 1 Connect the AM (L W/MW) loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 2 T urn the AM (L W/MW) loop antenna until y ou hav e the best reception. T o connect an outdoor AM (L W/MW) antenna When reception is poor , connect a single vinyl-covered wir e to the AM EXT terminal and extend it horizontally .
– 8 – For playing the other equipment thr ough this unit, connect between the audio output jacks on the other equipment and A UX jacks by using audio cords (not supplied). T o audio output T o start the display demonstration manually Press and hold DEMO f or more than 2 seconds.
– 9 – Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o tur n on the unit, press so that the ST ANDBY lamp goes off. The Po wered Rolling Panel opens automatically . T o tur n off the unit (on standby), press again so that the ST ANDBY lamp lights up.
– 10 – When using the remote control, press SUBWOOFER + to increase the subwoofer v olume or press SUBWOOFER – to decrease it. For CA-MXJ552R/CA-MXJ550R/CA-MXJ500 The ACTIVE B ASS EX. (e xtension) LEVEL control provided for this unit can maintain the richness and fullness of the bass sound while listening to any source at lo w volume.
– 11 – Surround modes * : D.CLUB : Increases resonance and bass. HALL : Adds depth and brilliance to the sound. ST ADIUM : Adds clarity and spreads the sound, like in an outdoor stadium. SEA (Sound Effect Amplifier) modes: R OCK : Boosts lo w and high frequency .
– 12 – Listening to FM and AM (L W/MW) Broadcasts T uning in a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in the previously tuned sta tion (either FM or AM — L W/MW). The Po w er ed Rolling Panel automatically opens. • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM (L W/MW).
– 13 – Receiving FM Stations with RDS This section is f or the model having RDS functions — that is CA-MXJ750R, CA-MXJ552R, and CA- MXJ550R. RDS allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular progr am signals.
– 14 – Switching to a Program T ype of Y our Choice T emporarily By recei ving EON data sent by FM RDS stations, the EON function allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to a broadcast program of your choice (T A, NEWS, and INFO) from a dif ferent station.
– 15 – Playing Back CDs Loading CDs On the unit ONL Y : 1 Pr ess 0 for the disc tray (CD1 to 3) y ou want to load a CD onto. The unit automatically turns on and the disc tray comes out. T he Powered Rolling Panel also opens automatically . 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 16 – T o locate a particular point in a track During play , press and hold 1 or ¡ . • 1 : Fast re verses the disc. • ¡ : Fast forw ards the disc. When using the remote control, press and hold 1 / 4 or ¢ / ¡ . T o go to another track Press 4 or ¢ repeatedly before or during playback.
– 17 – T o stop during play , press 7 . • Random play also stops when one of the disc trays is opened. T o exit fr om Random play mode, press PROGRAM/ RANDOM repeatedly again before or after play so that the unit enters another play mode.
– 18 – Playing Back T apes Y ou can play back type I, type II, and type IV tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Pr ess EJECT ( 0 ) for the deck y ou want to use. 2 Put a cassette in, with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently .
– 19 – Recording Recording a T ape on Deck B 1 Press EJECT 0 f or the deck B. 2 Put in a recordab le cassette, with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Check the tape direction of deck B. • If the tape direction is not correct, press T APE 2 3 twice then 7 to change the tape direction.
– 20 – CD Direct Recording Everything on the CD goes onto the tape in the order it is on the CD, or according to the order you hav e made for Program play . 1 Put a recordable cassette into deck B. 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 21 – Auto Edit Recording By using Auto Edit Recording, you can record the CD tracks to f it the tape. Auto Edit Recording makes a program by selecting the CD tracks in numerical order . Howe ver , to prev ent the end of the last track on the front side from being cut off , the last track is selected so as to fit on the remaining tape length.
– 22 – Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable — Recording T imer, Daily T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. (See page 9.) Using Daily Timer W ith Daily T imer , you can wake to your fa vorite music or radio program.
– 23 – DAILY Canceled ON TIME ON TIME Clock setting (See page 9.) REC 6 When selecting “– CD – –” 1) Press 4 or ¢ to select the disc number , then press SET . 2) Press 4 or ¢ to set the track number , then press SET . The unit enters volume setting mode.

– 25 – Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism clean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
