4 5 Package Contents The CE800 Audio KVM Extender package contains: • 1 CE800L KVM Extender (Local Unit) • 1 CE800R KVM Extender (Remote Unit) • 1 Custom KVM 6 ft (1.

8 9 Operating Systems Cables For optimum signal integrity and to simplify the layout, we strongly recommend that you use the high-quality Cus- tom USB KVM Cable that is provided with this package. Cat 5 cable is the minimum required to connect the local and r emote CE800 units.

14 No. Component Description 1 Power Jack The cable from the DC Power Adapter plugs into this jack.t 2 Keyboar d and Mouse Ports The console USB keyboards and mice plug into these ports. The ports are color coded and marked with an icon to identify themselves.
15 Before Y ou Begin Conventions This manual uses the following conventions: Monospaced Indicates text that you should key in. [ ] Indicates keys you should pr ess. For example, [Enter] means to press the Enter key . If keys need to be chorded, they appear together in the same bracket with a plus sign between them: [Ctrl+Alt].
16 17 Safety 1. Important safety information regar ding the placement of this device is provided on page 51. Please review it befor e proceeding. 2. Make sure that power to all the devices you will be connecting up have been turned off. Y ou must unplug the power cords of any computers that have the Keyboar d Power On function.
16 17 Setting up the USB KVM Extender System is simply a matter of plugging in the cables. Refer to the diagram on the next page as you perform the following steps 1. Plug the cables from the local console devices (mouse, keyboar d, monitor , microphone and speakers) into their ports on the rear panel of the Local Unit (CE800L).
19 18 5. Connect the cables from the r emote console devices to their ports on the rear panel of the r emote unit (CE800R). 6. Connect one of the power adapters (provided) to an AC sour ce; connect the adapter’ s power cable to the Power Jack on the CE800L.
19 Basic Operation Operating Modes The CE800 USB KVM Extender utilizes three operating modes: Auto, Local, and Remote, as described in the table below: Operation Mode Local Remote Auto Description Only the local console has complete access.* Only the remote console has complete access.
20 21 Mode Selection The Operating Mode Selection Switch, located on each unit’ s front panel, contr ols the operating mode of the CE800 USB KVM Extender system.
20 21 When the system is in Local Mode, the Remote unit’ s selection switch is inactive. Pressing it has no effect – the Remote operator cannot take over contr ol. The Remote selection switch only becomes active after the Local selection switch is pressed to r eturn the system to Auto Mode.
22 23 LED Display The GCE800 Local and Remote Units have front panel LEDs to indicate their operating status, as shown in the table below: GCE800L (Local Unit): LED Status Indication Off Local Mode is in effect. The Local console has keyboard and mouse input contr ol.
22 23 GCE800R (Remote Unit): LED Status Indication Remote On Remote Mode is in effect. The Remote console has input contr ol. Off Local Mode is in effect. The Local console has input control. Flashing Auto Mode is in effect. The rst console to initiate a command assumes control Link On The CE800R is connected to the CE800L.
24 25 USB Mass Storage Both the CE800L and the CE800R have a built-in USB port that complies with the USB Mass Storage specication and supports USB Mass Storage compliant ash drives. When you connect a USB Mass Storage complaint ash drive into either unit’ s USB port, it appears as a removable drive on the computer .
24 25 OSD Operation Overview The CE800 USB KVM Extender provides a convenient menu driven On Scr een Display (OSD) to handle its conguration parameters. All procedur es start from the OSD Main Scr een. T o access the Main Screen: 1. T ap the OSD Hotkey (Scroll Lock) twice.
26 27 2. Key in a valid username and password, then press [Enter]. Note: If this is the rst time that the OSD is being run, or if the password function has not been set, simply press [Enter].
26 27 OSD Navigation The following principles govern the way you navigate through the OSD: T o dismiss the menu, and deactivate the OSD, Click the X at the upper right corner of the OSD W indow; or press [Esc].
28 29 Administrator Conguration The administer conguration settings are listed below: Setting Function This function is used to set Usernames and Passwords for the Administrator and Users: SET USERNAME AND P ASSWORD 1. One Administrator and four User passwords can be set.
28 29 Setting Function HOTKEY COM- MAND MODE Enables / Disables the Hotkey Command function. If the hotkey combinations conict with programs running on the computers, you may want to disable hotkey operation by turning Hotkey Command Mode Off.
30 31 Setting Function 1Y ou must be logged on as Administrator to restore factory defaults. T o reset a forgotten Administrator password see page 50 * SPC stands for Special Case. For certain operating systems (such as FSBD), you may need to choose this option if you run into startup problems.
30 31 User Conguration The CE800 USB KVM Extender supports up to four user accounts in addition to the administrator . When users invoke the OSD, they get an OSD Main screen allows them to modify some of the conguration settings made by the administrator .
32 33 The conguration settings that users are allowed to make ar e explained in the table below: Setting Function CHANGE P ASSWORD Users can use this function to change the password that was assigned to them by the administrator .
32 33 Hotkey Operation In addition to the OSD, the administrator and users can also use hotkey combinations to congure a number of the CE800 USB KVM Extender’ s working environment parameters. Invoking Hotkey Mode All Hotkey operations begin by invoking Hotkey Mode (HKM).
34 35 When Hotkey Mode is active: • The Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock LEDs ash in succession to indicate so. They stop ashing and revert to normal status when you exit HKM. • A Command Line appears on the monitor screen. The command line pr ompt is the word Hotkey: in yellow text on a blue background.
34 35 T o switch to the alternate hotkey invocation set, do the following: 1. Invoke HKM (see page 19) 2. Press and r elease the H key The hotkey invocation keys become the Ctrl key (instead of Num Lock) and the F12 key (instead of Minus). Note: This procedur e is a toggle between the two methods.

36 37 Keyboard Operating Platform The CE800’ s default conguration is for a PC Compatible keyboard operating platform. If you have a Mac or a Sun on your installation, you can change the keyboard operating platform as follows: 3. Invoke HKM (see page 19) 4.

40 41 Keyboard Emulation Mac Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emulate the functions of the Mac keyboard. The emulation mappings are listed in the table to the right Note: When using key combinations, press and release the rst key (Ctrl), then pr ess and release the activation key .
40 41 Sun Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emulate the functions of the Sun keyboard when the Contr ol key [Ctrl] is used in conjunction with other keys.
42 43 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Utility (FWUpgrade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for upgrading the Extender’ s rmware. The Utility comes as part of a Firmwar e Upgrade Package. New rmware upgrade packages will be posted on our web site as they become available.
42 43 3. Choose the Firmware Upgrade Package you want to install (usually the most r ecent), and download it to your computer . 4. Use the Firmware Upgrade Cable pr ovided with this unit to connect a .
44 45 5. Make sure both units ar e connected by the Cat 5 cable, then plug in the Remote unit’ s power adapter . 6. Press and hold the Local unit’ s Selection button, then plug in the Local unit’ s power adapter . 7. W ait until both green fr ont panel LEDs on the Local unit are ashing on and of f, then release the Selection button.

48 49 Administrator Password If you are unable to perform an administrator login can clear the login information fr om the local unit with the following procedur e: 1. Power off the unit by disconnecting the power cor d and the CA T5 cable 2. Remove the cover .
