7 OPERA TING INFORMA TION GENERAL W ARNINGS Unless otherwise noted, all service and adjustments should be per formed while the wheelchair is unoccupied. Invacare designed this wheelchair to be used with a seat cushion. DO NOT operate the wheelchair without a seat cushion.

9 S A F E T Y / H A N D L I N G PROCEDURE 1 GENERAL GUIDELINES G E N E R A L G U I D E L I N E S SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS “Safety and Handling” of the wheelchair requires the close attention of the wheelchair user as well as the assistant.
10 Functional Reach From a Wheelchair The approximate reach-limit values shown in the accom- panying graph were derived on the basis of a sample of 91 male and 36 female wheelchair users. Note the differ- ence between the maximum and the comfortable reach limits, a subjective but important consideration in design.
11 Position wheelchair as close as possible to the desired object. Point front casters forward to create the longest possible wheelbase. Reach back only as far as your arm will extend without changing your sitting position. Tilting W ARNING DO NOT tilt the wheelchair without assistance.
12 Position the wheelchair as close as possible along side the seat to which you are transferring, with the front casters parallel to it. Engage wheel locks. Shift body weight into seat with transfer . During independent transfer , little or no seat platform will be beneath you.

15 Footrest Mounting Pin ADJUSTING THE FOOTREST HEIGHT (FIGURE 2) NOTE: Lay the assembly on a flat surface to simplify this procedure. 1 . Remove the footrest from the wheelchair . Refer to INST ALLING/REMOVING THE FOOTREST(S) in this procedure of the manual.
16 PROCEDURE 3 FRONT RIGGINGS 3 . Retighten the two (2) flat screws, washers and lock- nuts. NOTE: The settings for positioning the articulating footplates on the half-clamps may vary for each footplate.

Pull up on the half arm to remove from the arm socket. 2 . Remove the hex screw and locknut mounted in the arm socket that determine the half arm height.

27 REAR WHEELS PROCEDURE 7 R E A R W H E E L S INSTALLING QUAD-RELEASE AXLES (FIGURE 3) 1 . Remove rear wheel and the existing quick-release axle from the wheelchair . 2. Remove existing quick-release axle from rear wheel hub. 3 . Insert new quad-release axle through rear wheel hub.
28 REPAIRING/REPLACING PNEUMATIC CASTER OR REAR WHEEL TIRE/TUBE W ARNING Replacement of a pneumatic tire or tube MUST be per formed by a qualified tech- nician. CAUTION As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and wear, and should be replaced.
