1 INTR ODUCTION The InFocus ® LS700™ lightweight multimedia pr ojector com- bines powerful and sophisticated features with easy-to-use, intui- tive contr ols. Dynamic video is provided by Far oudja Laboratories, the industry leader in high- end video performan ce.

4 Intr oduction Usag e Guidelines • Do not loo k direct ly in to th e proje ctio n lens when the p rojec tor is turned on. The bright light may harm your eyes. • Do not block th e grills on the projector . Do not place the projec- tor on cloth table coverings, as they may get sucked up to the vents.
5 SETTING U P THE PR OJECTOR 1 Place the pr ojector on a flat s urface. • The pr ojector must be within 10 feet (3 m) of your power source an d within 6 feet ( 1.8 m) of your computer . NO TE : Optional accessories, sold separately , let you incr ease the dis- tance betw een the projector and your comp uter to 70 feet ( 21 m).
6 Setti ng up the Pr ojector Preparing to Conn ect Y our Equi pment to the Projector NO TE : Before you continue, mak e sure the pr ojector and your equipment are turned o ff. If you’ re connecting a computer , mak e sure the distance betw een it and the projector is 6 fe et or less .
7 Connec ting a Vi deo Pla y er 1 If your video player uses a round, on e-pron g composite video connector, you’ll need only the A/V cable that shipped with the proje ctor. • If your video player uses a round, four -prong S-video con- nector , you’ll need an S-video cable in addition to the A/V cable.

9 Connecting a n External Speak er The pr ojector has no internal speakers, but it can loo p-thro ugh audio so you can contro l the audio fr om the projector . Connect the A/V cable’s r ed and white audio connector s to the pro jector (see the pr evious page), then connect your speakers.
10 Setti ng up the Pr ojector Conne cting a Co mputer 1 Plug the end of the CableW izard Lite computer cable into the video connector on your co mputer . NO TE: Many laptop computers do not automatically turn on their external video por t when a secondar y display device such as a pro jector is connected.
11 P ow ering up the Pr oje ctor and Adjusting the Ima ge NO TE : Always use the po wer cor d that shipped with the pro jector . 1 Remove the lens cap. 2 Plug the po wer cord into the front of the projector, then plu g it into your electrical outlet. A surg e-protected power strip is recom mended if power sur ges are common in your are a.
12 Setti ng up the Pr ojector T urning Off the Pr ojector If you want to turn of f the pr ojector for a short period of time, press the standb y butt on on the remote or keypad. This blan ks the screen f o r 1 minute, but keeps the proje ctor running.
13 USIN G TH E PROJEC TOR This section describes how to use an d make adjustments to the proj ector . It also pr ovides a ref erence to the k eypad and r emote buttons and the opti ons available from the on-screen menus. Basic Ima ge Adjustme nt 1 Make sur e you have power ed up your equipment in the right orde r (page 1 1).
14 Using the Pro jector Adjustin g the Pro j ector T o focus th e image, rotate the focus ring ( Figu re 10) until the image is clear . T o zoom the image, r otate the zoom ring.
15 T o raise the pr ojector: 1 Press and hold the elevator button (Figure 10). 2 Raise the pr ojector to the height you want, then r elease the button to lock the elevator foot into pos ition. 3 If necessary , use the leveling knob (Figure 1 1) to adju st the angle of the pr ojected image.
16 Using the Pro jector Using the Remote Contr ol NO TE: If you can’t aim the remote contr ol at the projecto r so that its signal is received — for example , when using rear pr ojection — connect it directly to the pr ojector with the optional remo te control cable.

Press compute r to display your computer im age. Fr eez e The freeze button halts, or “ fre ezes” the pr ojected ima ge.
18 Using the Pro jector Standb y When you pr ess standby , the display and audio turn o ff and a blank scr een is displayed for 1 minute. After 1 minute, the lamp goes out if yo u haven’t pressed standb y again. Y ou can chan ge the amount of time the pr ojector stays in standby mode ; see “Standby T ime” on page 27 for details.

20 Using the Pro jector Using the Menus The projector has six drop-d ow n menus th at allow you to make image ad justments an d change a variety of se ttings. 22 Using the Pro jector Color The color setting adjusts a video ima ge from black and white to fully saturated color . • Press the left m ouse button to decrease the amoun t of color in the image. • Press the right mouse button to increase the am ount of co lor in the image.

28 Using the Pro jector Auto Sou rce Select This setting toggles between On and O f f. When this feature is Off, the projector def aults to the source selected in Default Sour ce. T o display another source, you must m an ua lly select one by press- ing the computer or vide o button on th e keypad or r emote.

30 Using the Pro jector Lamp hour s used Indicates how many hours the curr ent lamp has been in use. The counter starts at zero hours and counts each hour the l amp is in use. When the counter reaches 2000 h ours, the lamp monitor li ght turns on. Change the lamp w hen the brightness is no longer acceptable.

32 Mainte nance & T roubles hooting F IGURE 23 Removing the filter door 3 Clean the filter . • Use a vacuum cleaner set on low pow er to r emove the dust and dirt. Be sur e to vacuum fro m the filter door side through the ve nts and not dire ctly on the filter itself.
33 Repla cing the Pr ojection Lamp W ARN ING: T o avoid burns , allow the pr ojector to cool for at least 30 minutes before you open the lamp module door . Ne ver extract the lamp module while the lamp is oper ating. The lamp hour counter on the sta tus bar at the top of th e menus counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use.

37 Solut ions to C ommo n Prob lems Problem: Not hing on projection sc reen • Make sure that the power cord is pr operly connected to a func- tional AC electrical outlet. Make sur e that the power cord is also pro perly connected to the pro jector .

41 Pro blem: La mp seems to be getti ng dimmer • The lamp begins to los e brightness when it ha s been in use for a long time. Replace the lamp as described in “Replacing the Pro- jectio n L amp” on page 3 3. Pro blem: Lamp shuts off • A minor power sur ge may cause the lamp to shut o ff.
