Place the treadmill on a level surface, with at least eight feet of clearance behind it and two feet on each side.
4 The decals shown here have been placed on the treadmill. If a decal is missing, or if it is not legible, call the toll-free tele- phone number on the front cover of this manual and order a free replacement decal. Apply the decal in the location shown.
5 T hank you for selecting the new IMAGE ® A DVANCED 1 400 treadmill. The ADVANCED 1400 treadmill offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts at home more enjoyable and effective.
6 ASSEMBL Y T o hire an authorized service technician to assemble the treadmill, call toll-free 1-800-445-2480. Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed.
7 3. Remove the knob from the pin. Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin. (Note: If there are two col- lars, place one on each side of the spring.) Insert the pin into the Latch Housing (82), and tighten the knob back onto the pin. Knob Collar Spring Pin 82 3 4.
8 If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23), follow the steps below to install the receiver inclu ded with the chest pulse sensor. 1. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged. Remove the indicated Screw (108) and the Access Door (31).
9 OPERA TION AND ADJUSTMENT T HE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high- performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil- icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
10 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to help you get the most from your workouts. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
1 1 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER N ote: To prevent damage to the walking platform, always wear clean shoes when using the treadmill. Plug in the power cord (see page 9). Next, locate the reset /off circuit breaker near the power cord. Make sure that the circuit breaker is in the reset po- sition.
12 The left side of the dis- play will show the incline l evel of the treadmill, the elapsed time, the ap- p roximate number of grams of carbs you have burned, and the distance that you have walked or run. Note: Each time the incline changes, the dis- play will show the incline setting for a few sec- onds.
13 H OW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 11. S elect one of the preset programs. To select one of the six preset programs, press the Program Select but- ton repeat- edly.
14 Follow your progress with the display. See step 5 on page 11. Measure your heart rate if desired. S ee step 6 on page 12. Turn on the fan if desired. See step 7 on page 12. When you are finished exercising, remove the key from the console. When the program has ended, make sure that the incline of the treadmill is at the lowest set- ting.
E nter your age. When a pulse program is selected, the word “AGE” will appear in the d isplay and the current age setting will begin to flash. If you have already entered your age, simply press the Start button (the program will not start at this time).
F ollow your progress with the display. See step 5 on page 11. Turn on the fan if desired. See step 7 on page 12. When you are finished exercising, remove the key from the console. See step 7 on page 14. HOW TO CREATE CUSTOM PROGRAMS Insert the key into the console.
H OW TO USE A CUSTOM PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 11. S elect one of the custom programs. To select ei- ther of the custom pro- grams, press the Program Select bu t- ton repeat- edly . The word “CUSTOM” will appear in the display.
HOW TO CONNECT THE TREADMILL TO YOUR CD PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER To use iFIT.com CDs , the treadmill must be connected t o your portable CD player, portable stereo, home s tereo, or computer with CD player. See pages 18 and 19 for connecting instructions.
19 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO N ote: If your stereo has an unused LINE OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the LINE OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack on the front of the treadmill near the power cord.
20 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR VCR N ote: If your VCR has an unused AUDIO OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the AUDIO OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 19.
21 If the speed or incline settings are too high or too low, you can manually override the settings at any t ime by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons on the console. However, when the next “chirp” is h eard, the speed and/or incline will change to the next settings of the program.
22 HOW TO USE AN IFIT.COM PROGRAM DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE Our Web site at www.iFIT.com allows you to access programs directly from the internet. Additional options are soon to be available. See www.iFIT.com for details. To use a program from our Web site, the treadmill must be connected to your home computer.
23 THE INFORMATION MODE/DEMO MODE T he console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has b een operated and the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved.
24 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be per- m anently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
25 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand. Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the frame down until it is past the latch pin. 2. Hold the treadmill firmly with both hands, and lower the frame to the floor.
TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please call the toll-free telephone number on the f ront cover of this manual.
With the help of a second person, carefully raise the Uprights (97) to the position shown. Caref ully pi vot th e H ood (105) off. L ocate the Reed Switch (22) and the Magnet (19) on the left side of the Pulley (18). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch.
29 SUGGESTED STRETCHES T he correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1 . Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
