Part 1: Installation and user ’ s guide This part of the manual consists of an introduction, installation instructions, and instructions for using and maintaining this 12x8x32 CD-ReW ritable (CD-R W) drive. Introduction This section describes this option and the software that comes with it.
In addition to this manual, the option kit includes: v CD-R W drive v T wo audio cables v Four mounting screws v one IDE cable v T wo bezels 3 for use with certain computers v Adaptec Easy CD Creator .
System requirements Before you begin installing the drive, be sur e your computer meets the following system requir ements. v Minimum micropr ocessor: Intel ® Pentium ® processor (or the equivalent) v Minimum RAM: 32 MB 4 v A vailable IDE connection v A vailable internal power connection v A vailable 5.
Front view of the drive Refer to the following illustrations to identify parts that might be referr ed to in the installation instructions. 1 CD tray . Use this tray to load and unload a CD. 2 Busy indicator . This light comes on when the drive reads fr om, writes to, or plays a CD.

Installing the Drive T o install the drive into your computer , use the following steps. Step 1. Opening the computer T o open your computer , do the following: 1. T urn off the computer and all attached devices. 2. Unplug the power cords for the computer and all attached devices.
v Some non-IBM computers support the cable-select setting, where the position of the device on the cable determines whether a device is master or slave. See the documentation that comes with your computer to determine if your system supports this setting.

2. Be sure the cables do not interfer e with the computer cover and do not block the power-supply fan blades or air -flow paths. 3. Reinstall the computer cover . 4. Reconnect all devices and check any devices that might have become disconnected, such as the keyboard, mouse, and monitor .
T o install the Easy CD Creator and Dir ectCD software for W indows 98, W indows 95, W indows Me, W indows 2000, or W indows NT 4.0, do the following steps: 1. Insert the Easy CD Creator and Dir ectCD disc into your CD-RW drive. 2. If the Adaptec Easy CD Creator Installation window opens, follow the onscreen instructions.
CD Creator is used to copy CDs, cr eate new data CDs, and produce new audio CDs that can be read by standar d CD-RO drives and CD players. DirectCD is used to make file ar chives and data CDs that can be altered many times. It also provides the convenience of dir ect drive letter access.
Attention: W iping a CD using a circular motion might cause loss of data. v Handle the CD by the edges or by the center hole. Do not touch the surface of the CD. v T o remove dust or fingerprints, wipe the CD fr om the center to the edge with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Loading a CD T o load a CD into a horizontally mounted CD-R W drive, do the following: 1. Press the Eject/Load button. The tray slides out of the drive. 2. Insert the CD into the loading tray . 3. Close the loading tray by pressing the Eject/Load button, or by gently pushing the tray in.
1. Press the Eject/Load button. 2. Look at the illustrations and compare them to your loading tray . v If your loading tray looks like the left illustration, insert the CD carefully so that the edges of the CD are underneath the tabs on the loading tray .
1. Insert a blank disc. The DirectCD W izard W elcome window opens. 2. Click Next twice. The Format Disc window opens. Attention: Formatting completes in about 30 minutes for standard and about 15 minutes for high speed media.
4. The window that opens is similar to the W indows Explorer . In the top section, click to select the audio files or audio tracks you want to add to the CD. 5. Click the Add button at the top of the window to add the files to your CD. 6. Choose the close CD-R disc option if you plan to use it in your car or home players.
Note: This is the drive containing the CD you want to copy . 4. In the Record T o section, select the CD-R W drive from the scroll down box. Be sure that ther e is a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc in the CD-R W drive. 5. On the Advanced tab, you can choose to test the CD for the best possible recor ding speed.

Etape 10. Installation de Easy CD Creator et DirectCD Pour installer Easy CD Creator et Dir ectCD, procédez comme suit : Remarque : Lisez le fichier README fourni sur le CD Adaptec Easy CD Creator et Dir ectCD pour y trouver les informations les plus récentes concernant ces logiciels.
Pour installer UDF reader , procédez comme suit : 1. Sélectionnez Démarrer -->Rechercher -->Fichiers ou Démarrer -->Rechercher -->Répertoires . 2. Recherchez le fichier UDFRINST .EXE sur le disque dur de l’ordinateur . 3. Copiez le fichier UDFRINST .
Remarque : Les CD-R sont classés par leur vitesse d’écriture. Pour pouvoir écrire à la vitesse 12x, un CD supportant une vitesse de 12x sera nécessaire. Pr enez contact avec le fournisseur du CD pour connaître sa vitesse maximale d’écritur e.
v Pour retir er de la poussière ou des traces de doigts, nettoyez le CD à partir du centre en allant vers les bor ds avec un chiffon doux non pelucheux. v N’écrivez pas sur la surface. v Ne placez pas les CD sous la lumière dir ecte du soleil. v N’utilisez pas de produits du commer ce pour nettoyer vos CD.
A vertissement : Ne tentez pas de forcer l’ouvertur e du plateau ; ne placez pas d’objets étrangers sur le plateau. Si le plateau ne s’ouvre pas quand vous appuyez sur le bouton Ejection/Chargement , consultez la section «Ejection manuelle d’un CD» à la page 1-14.
Ejection manuelle d’un CD Si vous appuyez sur le bouton Ejection/Chargement et que le plateau ne sort pas, mettez l’ordinateur hors tension. Dépliez un grand tr ombone, comme le montre l’illustration. L’extrémité dépliée doit mesur er au moins 45 mm.
4. Indiquez le titre de votr e disque dans la fenêtre Name Y our Disc (nom du disque). Le nom du disque peut comprendr e jusqu’à 1 1 caractères. 5.

Se il vassoio non si apre quando viene pr emuto il pulsante Carica/Espelli , consultare la sezione “Espulsione manuale di un CD”. Per caricare un CD in un’unità CD-R W situata verticalmente, seguire la procedura riportata di seguito.
