9 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thrown into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Alwa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while op- erating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repairs.
10 OPERA TION T O ADJUST MO WER CUT TING HEIGHT (See Fig. 8) The po si tion of the at tach ment lift le v er (A) de ter mines the cut ting height. • Put attachment lift lev er in desired cutting height slot. The cutting height range is ap pro x i mate ly 1" to 4".

12 OPERA TION ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller nec k. Do not overfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e life).

See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

16 MAINTENANCE V -BEL TS Check V -belts f or deter ioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
17 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

20 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O LEVEL MO WER Make sure tires are properly infl ated to the PSI shown on tires. If tires are ov er or under infl ated, it may aff ect the appearance of y our lawn and lead you to think the mo wer is not adjusted properly .
21 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS NO TE : Each full tur n of adjustment nut will change mow er height about 3/16". • T est your adjustment b y mowing some uncut grass and visually checking the appear ance. Readjust, if neces- sar y , until you are satisfi ed with the results .
22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS MO WER DRIVE BEL T INST ALLA TION • Install belt around all mandrel pulleys (R) and around idler pulleys (S) as sho wn. • Install belt onto electr ic clutch pulle y (M). IMPORT ANT : Check belt f or proper routing in all mower pulley g rooves .
23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REMO VE WHEEL FOR REP AIRS (See Fig. 31) • Block up axle securely . • Remove axle co ver , retaining r ing and washers to allo w wheel remov al (rear wheel contains a square ke y - Do not lose). FRONT WHEEL T OE-IN/CAM BER Y our new tr actor front wheel toe-in and camber is set at the f actor y and is nor mal.
24 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Close hood.
25 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gasoline in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
26 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “TO ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral minutes bef ore attempting to star t. 4. Bad spark plug.
