9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov er infl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this man ual.

12 OPERA TION CA UTION: Alwa ys stop tractor com- plete ly , as described abo ve, bef ore leav- ing the operator's position; to empty grass catcher , etc. The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age .
13 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.
15 OPERA TION FIG. 12 00272 PURGE TRANSMISSION CA UTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel le ver while the engine is run- ning. T o ensure proper operation and perf ormance, it is rec om - mend ed that the transmission be purged bef ore operating tractor f or the fi rst time .

17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser ve saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
