English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Ne ver allo w children or other persons not trained in the use of the machine to use or ser vice it. Local laws ma y regulate the age of the user . • Use hearing protection to minimise the r isk of hearing impairment.

English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • T ake care with battery maintenance. Explosive gases f or m in the batter y . Ne ver perf or m maintenance on the batter y while smoking or in the vicinity of open flames or sparks. This can cause the battery to explode and cause serious injur ies.
12 – English PRESENT A TION Presentation Cong ratulations on y our choice of an e xcellent quality product that will give y ou great pleasure for man y years . This operator’ s manual describes R 422 Ts A WD . The machine are equipped with a f our-stroke V -T win engine from Briggs & Stratton.
English – 13 PRESENT A TION Cutting unit R 422 Ts A WD can be equipped with two diff erent cutting units. Combi 112 and Combi 122 The Combi-unit, equipped with a BioClip-plug, finely chops the cuttings to f er tiliser . Without the BioClip-plug the unit works in the same wa y as a rear ejection unit.
14 – English PRESENT A TION Seat The seat has a jointed attachment on the front edge and can be tipped f orward. The seat can also be adjusted lengthwa ys. T o adjust mov e the le ver under the front edge of the seat to the left, so that the seat can be mov ed f orward or bac kwards to the required position.
English – 15 Driving Bef ore star ting • Read the saf ety instructions and information concer ning the placement of controls and functions bef ore star ting. • P erform daily maintenance before starting as set out in the Maintenance schedule. • Localise and mark stones and other fixed objects to a void collision.
16 – English Driving 6 When the engine star ts release the ignition ke y immediately back to neutr al position. 7 Push the choke le ver gradually f orward when the engine has star ted. 8 Let the engine run at moderate speed or half throttle for 3- 5 minutes bef ore subjecting it to heavy load.
English – 17 Driving Driving the Rider 1 Release the parking brake b y first pressing down the parking brake pedal and then releasing it. 2 Carefully press down one of the pedals until the required speed is obtained. P edal (1) is used to drive f orwards, and pedal (2) to drive bac kwards.
18 – English Maintenance Maintenance sc hedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance which should be conducted on the machine. F or those points not descr ibed in this manual, visit an authorised ser vice workshop.
English – 19 Maintenance 1) First change after 8 hours. When operating with a heavy load or at high ambient temperatures , replace ev er y 50 hours. 2) Maintenance and replacement are required more often in dusty conditions. 3) If the machine is used daily it should be lubricated twice a week.
20 – English Maintenance Cleaning Clean the machine directly after use. It is much easier to w ash off grass cuttings bef ore they dr y . Oily dir t can be remov ed using a cold degreasing agent. Spra y on a thin la yer . Rinse at normal water pressure.
English – 21 Maintenance Chec king and adjusting the steering wires The steering is controlled by means of wires. These can in time become slack, which implies that the adjustment of the steering becomes altered.
22 – English Maintenance Chec king and adjusting of thr ottle wire Chec k that the engine responds to the throttle control and that the correct engine speed is achie ved at full throttle .
English – 23 Maintenance Replacing the air filter If the engine seems to lack po wer or does not run smoothly this ma y be because the air filter is clogged. It is therefore impor tant to replace the air filter at regular inter vals (see Maintenance/Maintenance Schedule f or the correct ser vice inter val).
24 – English Maintenance Chec k the safety system The machine is equipped with a saf ety system that pre vents star ting or driving under the following conditions . The engine must only be possib le to star t when the follo wing conditions are met: • The cutting unit is in raised position.
English – 25 Maintenance Chec king the tyre pressure The tyre pressure should be 60 kP a (0.6 bar / 9 PSI) all round. T o improv e driving the pressure on the rear tyres can be reduced to 40 kP a (0.4 bar/5.6 PSI). The maximum tyre pressure is 100 kP a (1,0 bar/14 PSI).
26 – English Maintenance Assemb ly 1 Pull the belt through the opening under the pivot bearing and on the outside past the belt tensioner's disc. 2 Pull the belt under the engine belt pulleys and fit it on the engine belt pulley . 3 Fit the belt on the pump's pulley .
English – 27 Maintenance Assemb ly 1 Fit the front belt on the centre pulley . Pull it on the outside of the runner wheel and on the inside of the idler pulley . 2 Fit the centre belt on the centre pulley . 3 Reset the cutting unit from ser vice position to mowing position.
28 – English Maintenance Remo ving the cutting unit 1 Carr y out points 1-6 to put the cutting unit in the ser vice position, see Ser vice position f or the cutting unit.
English – 29 Maintenance Adjusting the parallelism of the cutting unit 1 Remov e the front hood and right-hand fender . 2 Unscrew the belt shield. 3 Undo the nuts on the lift strut. 4 Screw out (e xtend) the stay to raise the rear edge of the cov er .
30 – English Maintenance 6 Remov e the screws on the cutting co v er . Lift the unit frame and remov e the cutting unit cover . 7 Loosen the spring that tensions the V -belt and pry off the belt.
English – 31 Maintenance Restoring fr om service position 1 Grip the front edge of the unit and loosen the lock, f old down and slide in the unit. 2 Replace the cutting height sta y and the belt. 3 T ension the belt with the belt adjuster . 4 Fit the front cov er .
32 – English Lubrication General Remo v e the ignition ke y to prev ent unintentional mov ements during lubr ication. When lubricating with an oilcan, it ought to be filled with engine oil.
English – 33 Lubrication Driver seat F old up the seat. Lubricate the lengthwa ys adjustment runners with oilcan. Thr ottle and choke cab les, lever bearings • Remov e the right side cov er on the lev er housing (3 screws) and open the engine co ver .
34 – English Lubrication Choose an oil with viscosity according to the temperature ranges in the figure: Do not mix diff erent types of oil. Caution when using oils such as 5W -20, 10W -30 and 10W-40 the engine’ s oil consumption increases. If these oils must be used, check the oil le vel frequently .

If necessar y , use a filter remover . • Lightly lubricate the r ubber seal on the ne w oil filter using new oil. • Tighten the filter by hand until y ou f eel it make contact, then tighten a fur ther 3/4 tur n.

38 – English ELECTRICAL AND HYDRA ULIC SYSTEMS Hydraulic System K eep the h ydraulic system clean. Bear in mind that: • Thoroughly clean bef ore the top-up cap is opened or any connector loosened. • Use clean containers when topping up the oil. • Only use pure oil that has been stored in a sealed container .
English – 39 Storage Winter stora ge At the end of the season, or if the machine is going to stand idle f or more than 30 days , it should immediately be made ready f or storage. Fuel which is left to stand f or long periods (30 da ys or more) can leav e tacky deposits which can b lock the carburettor and interf ere with the engine.
40 – English T echnical data Note 1: The power r ating of the engine indicated is the av erage net output (at specified rpm) of a typical production engine for the engine model measured to SAE standard J1349/ISO1585. Mass production engines may diff er from this value.
