11 OPERA TION 00155 The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Al ways wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repair s.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope. • Choose the slowest speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills .
13 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e life).

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 9) • Raise mower to highest position to allo w access to blades . • Remove b lade bolt, lock w asher and fl at washer se cur ing bla de. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
17 MAINTENANCE V -BEL TS Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 00 667 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whichev er occurs fi rst.

22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TRANSAXLE MO TION CONTROL LE VER NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT(See Fig. 22) The motion control le ver has been pre set at the factory and adjustment should not be necessar y . • Loosen adjustment bolt in front of the right rear wheel, and lightly tighten.
23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O ST ART ENGINE WITH A WEAK B A TTER Y (See Fig. 24) WA R N I N G : Lead-acid batteries gen- er ate ex plo sive gases. Keep sparks, fl ame and smoking ma te ri als away fr om bat ter ies. Alwa ys wear eye pr o tec tion when around batteries.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “TO ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
