8 ASSEMBL Y ASSEMBLE GA UGE WHEELS T O MO WER DECK (See Fig. 4) The gauge wheels are designed to keep the mo wer deck in proper position when operating mow er . Be sure they are properly adjusted to ensure optimum mower perf or- mance. • Slide gauge wheel bar down into brack et channel, Be sure that gauge wheel bar aligning holes are on top .
9 ASSEMBL Y INST ALL MO WER AND DRIVE BEL T (See Figs. 6 and 7) Be sure tractor is on le vel surf ace and mower suspension arms are raised with attachment lift control. Engage park- ing brak e. • Cut and remov e ties securing anti-swa y bar and belts.

13 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while operating y our trac- tor or per form ing any adjustments or repair s.
14 OPERA TION FIG. 11 T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sens ing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine.
15 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 8) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.
16 OPERA TION MO WING TIPS • Tire chains cannot be used when the mow er housing is attached to tractor . • Mower should be properly lev eled for best mo wing per fo r mance. See “TO LEVEL MO WER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this man u al.

18 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser ve saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
19 MAINTENANCE V- B E L T S Check V -belts for deterioration and w ear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear. CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating.

26 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLA CING B A TTER Y (See Fig. 30) W ARNING: Do not short battery ter mi nals by allo wing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connect- ing battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
27 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill. • Close hood.
28 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
