GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English be chec ked. See instructions under the heading Maintenance . Stop s witch Use the stop s witch to switch off the engine . Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when y ou mov e the stop switch to the stop setting.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 fi tted with a catalytic conv er ter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust gases. In countries that have a w ar m and dry climate there is a significant r isk of fire. W e therefore fit certain mufflers with a spark arrestor mesh.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English attachment rotates. (CA UTION! The nut has a left-hand thread.) Tighten the nut using the socket spanner . The nylon lining inside the locking n ut must not be so worn that y ou can turn it by hand. The lining should offer a resistance of at least 1.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 • Sharpen all edges equally to maintain the balance of the blade. T rimmer head • Only use the recommended trimmer heads and trimmer cords. These have been tested b y the manuf acturer to suit a par ticular engine size.
ASSEMBL Y 12 – English Fitting the J-handle • Clip the loop handle onto the shaft. Note that the loop handle must be fitted between the arrows on the shaft. • Slide the spacer into the slot in the loop handle. • Fit the nut, knob and screw . Do not ov er tighten.
ASSEMBL Y English – 13 The guard extension is remo ved easily using the spark plug spanner , see illustration. Fitting a blade guar d, grass b lade and grass cutter • Hook the blade guard/combination guard (A) onto the fitting on the shaft and secure with the bolt.
ASSEMBL Y 14 – English • Screw on the trimmer head/plastic blades (H) in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation. • T o dismantle, follo w the instructions in the reverse order .
FUEL HANDLING English – 15 Fuel safety Nev er star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilt fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allo w remaining fuel to e vaporate. 2 If you ha ve spilt fuel on yourself or y our clothes, change your clothes. W ash any par t of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
FUEL HANDLING 16 – English Mixing • Alwa ys mix the petrol and oil in a clean container intended for fuel. • Alwa ys star t by filling half the amount of the petrol to be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shake) the fuel mixture. Add the remaining amount of petrol.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 17 Check bef ore star ting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks hav e formed at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 18 – English Primer bulb: Press the air purge repeatedly until fuel begins to fill the bulb . The b ulb need not be completely filled. Hold the body of the machine on the ground using your left hand (CA UTION! Not with your foot!).
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 19 General working instructions Basic safety rules 1 Look around you: • T o ensure that people, animals or other things cannot aff ect y our control of the machine.
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 20 – English Basic working tec hniques Alwa ys slow the engine to idle speed after each working operation. Long periods at full throttle without any load on the engine can lead to serious engine damage. Grass clearing using a grass b lade • Grass blades and g rass cutters must not be used on woody stems.
W ORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 21 Cutting • The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach using a normal lawn mower . Keep the cord parallel to the ground when cutting. A void pressing the trimmer head against the ground as this can ruin the lawn and damage the tool.
MAINTENANCE 22 – English Carburettor Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions. After the engine has used 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine will be run-in.
MAINTENANCE English – 23 cause fire if directed against dry and combustible material. Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestor mesh. If your machine has this type of muffler , you should clean the mesh at least once a week. This is best done with a wire brush.
24 – English MAINTENANCE • Unnecessary wear to engine par ts. • Excessive fuel consumption. Clean the filter ev er y 25 hours, or more regularly if conditions are exceptionally dusty . Cleaning the air filter Remo v e the air filter cover and take out the filter .
English – 25 MAINTENANCE If the machine is low on pow er, difficult to start or runs poor ly at idle speed: always chec k the spar k plug first before taking any further action. If the spark plug is dirty , clean it and check that the electrode gap is 0.
26 – English MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The follo wing is a list of the maintenance that must be performed on the machine. Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carr y out the maintenance and service wor k described in this Operator’ s Manual.
