6 ENGLISH SAFE USE CA UTION! Never operate a c hain saw with one hand only . Doing so may lead to i serious injury to operator , helpers or b ystanders. An electric chain saw is designed f or operation with both hands. D ANGER! Use of accessories not conforming to the recommendations outlined in the Operating Instructions could lead to injury .
7 • Double-insulated! Y our electric chain saw is doub le-insulated for added protection against electric shock. A double-insulated electric tool is designed with two separ ate «lay ers» of electr ical insulation or one la yer of insulation of double thic kness between the operator and the tool's conducting par ts.
8 ENGLISH KICKBACK PREVENTION D ANGER! Kickbac ks occur suddenly and without warning. A kickbac k may be violent enough to thro w a chainsaw bac k at the user .
• Most accidents caused by kic kbacks tak e place in connection with limbing. Make cer tain your f ooting is secure and that there are no i objects nearby which ma y trip you or mak e you lose y our balance.
10 ENGLISH • The chain brak e (A) is activated either manually (with the left hand) or b y the f orce of iner tia (the iner tia of the kickbac k guard resisting the motion of the saw from the f orce of the kic kback). How ev er it is activated, the kickbac k protection mechanism works in the opposite direction to the force of the kickbac k.
11 ENGLISH Brake band inspection • Clean sawdust, pitch, and debris from the chain brak e and clutch dr um. W ear and debr is both aff ect brake function. • Inspect the brak e band regular ly , ensur ing that it is nowhere less than 0.6 mm thic k Kic kback guar d inspection • Inspect kickbac k guard f or visible def ects, such as crac ks.
12 ENGLISH Y our chain saw f eatures a slip clutch which protects it from ov er load. The slip clutch ma y require cleaning after long per iods of operation.
13 ENGLISH 2 1 3 1. Pull kickbac k guard back against the front handle to ensure that the chain brak e is not applied. 2. Screw out the guide bar nut and remo ve the chain drive co ver . 3. Fit the chain around guide bar nose with the top cutters facing f orwards .
14 ENGLISH 7. T ension the chain by scre wing the tensioning screw clockwise using the screwdriv er tip on the combination tool. 8. The chain is correctly tensioned when the slack on the bottom of the bar is gone, y et the chain is still easily pulled around by hand.
15 ENGLISH • K eep c hain properly tensioned! A loose chain derails more easily and accelerates w ear on guide bar , chain and drive soc ket. • Ensure that the automatic oiling system works and that the cutting equipment is properl y maintained.
16 ENGLISH • If the lubrication system does not seem to be working, and the follo wing steps do not help , t ake your sa w to a ser vice dealer . - Check the guide bar's oil passage and clean if necessary . - Check guide bar g roov e and clean if necessar y .
17 ENGLISH Star ting •G r ip the front handle fir mly with your left hand. •G r ip the rear handle fir mly with your right hand. • Press and hold the pow er tr igger lock out button with y our r ight thumb and squeeze the po wer trigger with your inde x finger .
18 ENGLISH • When filing a saw , pa y close attention to: T OP-PLA TE ANGLE CUTTING ANGLE HORIZONT AL FILE ANGLE FILE DIAMETER FILE DEPTH See «T echnical Specifications» f or the details which apply to your chain. It is v er y difficult to file a chain saw correctly without the proper aids.
19 ENGLISH CROSSCUTTING • Cutting a log on the ground. There is little danger of the saw jamming or the log splintering, but it is difficult to a void running the saw into the ground when breaking through at the end of the cut. Saw str aight through the log.
20 ENGLISH LIMBING All the principles which apply to crosscutting also apply when cutting thick branches . Cut complicated branches in se ver al stages. Ensure that your f ooting is secure at all times, whether mo ving about or standing in one place. Alwa ys work with the log to your right.
21 ENGLISH Clearing branches/Line of retreat Remov e any branches from around the base of the tree which ma y interf ere with your w or k. It is saf est to work from the top down and to keep the tree trunk between you and the running chain. Ne ver cut branches abo ve shoulder height.
22 ENGLISH When complete, the FELLING CUT m ust be parallel to the notch and leav e a strip of HINGE WOOD at least 1/10 the diameter of the tree. The HINGE WOOD acts as a hinge , steer ing the direction of the f alling tree.
