42 Using Phone F eatures 3.1 Using the Phone Like a standard mobile phone, y ou can use your device to make, r eceive , and keep track of calls and send SMS/MMS messages. Y ou can also dial directly from Contacts, and easily cop y phonebook entries from your SIM card to Contacts on your devic e.
Using Phone F eatures 43 T o turn off the phone function, do one of the following: • T ap the Comm Manager icon ( ) on the T oday screen. On the Comm Manager screen, tap the Phone button to turn off the phone function . T o resume call function, turn on the phone function by t apping the Phone button again on the Comm Manager screen.
44 Using Phone F eatures Notes • T o adjust the conversation phone volume , you must do it during a call. Adjusting the volume at another time will aff ect the ring, notification, and MP3 sound levels. • When you activate Vibra te mode, sound will automatically be muted and your device will vibrate when an inc oming call is received.
Using Phone F eatures 45 Make a call from C ontacts T ap Start > Contacts , then do one of the following: • Press NA VIGA TION up or down to select a contact, and press T ALK twice (once to send the number to the Phone keypad, and onc e to dial the number).

Note Location 1 is generally reserved for y our voice mail, and Speed Dial will designate the next available location by default.

Smart Dialing will search for the letter starting from the first character of a contact name as well as from the character that appears after a space , dash, or underscore in a contact name.

Using Phone F eatures 55 T o mute a call Y ou can turn off the microphone during a call, so that you can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear you. • During a call, tap Mute . • When the microphone is turned off , the mute icon ( ) appears on the screen.
56 Using Phone F eatures 3.9 Setting Up Bluetooth SIM Acc ess for C ar Kit Phones Car kit phones that support the SIM Access Profile (SAP) can connect to your device and access its SIM card via Bluet ooth. Once a SAP connection has been established, you can download SIM c ontacts from your device to the car kit phone.

4.1 Setting Up ActiveS ync ActiveSync synchr onizes information on y our device with information on your PC, such as Outlook content. A ctiveSync can also synchronize over a wireless or c ellular network with Microsoft Exchange Ser ver , if your company or service provider is running Microsoft Exchange Server with Exchange ActiveS ync.
4. If you want to synchronize y our device with Exchange Server , select the Synchronize directly with a server running Microsoft Exchange Server check box, then click Ne xt . 5. On the Exchange server credentials screen, ent er the Exchange server address, your user name and passw ord, and the domain name .
e. T o check the domain name, click Start > Settings > Control Panel , then double-click System . f . In the System Properties dialog box, click the Computer Name tab. Y ou will then see the domain name. 6. On your device, y ou also need to enter the Ex change server settings.
If you want to synchronize y our device with both your comput er and Exchange Server , do the following: a. For the Contacts, Calendar , E-mail, and T asks items, choose whether to synchronize them with the comput er or with the Exchange Server . These items cannot be synchr onized to both.
4.2 Synchr onizing Information When you connect your device to the PC using a USB cable c onnection, or a Bluetooth connection, ActiveSync will immediately synchr onize. While your device is connected, A ctiveSync synchronizes ev ery time you make a change on either the PC or your device.

Synchroniz e Outlook information with Ex change Server Y ou can set up synchronization with Exchange Server on your device , if it is available to you thr ough your company or wir eless service provider .
Schedule synchronization with Ex change Server Y ou can schedule information to be synchroniz ed automatically between your device and the Exchange Server , or schedule synchronization at regular time intervals. Choose between these two methods, depending on your e-mail volume and which method you think is more cost-effective.
Note When both the GPRS and Wi-F i connections are turned on at the same time, the Direct Push featur e will always opt for GPRS, f or which you could be charged as per your network operator’ s ser vice plan.
4.3 Synchr onizing via Bluetooth Y ou can connect your device to the PC to synchroniz e using the local wireless technologies , such as Bluetooth. T o synchronize with a computer via Bluetooth 1. Follo w the instructions in ActiveSync Help on the computer for configuring Bluetooth on your computer t o support ActiveSync.
4.4 Synchr onizing Music, Video , and Pictures If you want to carry your music or other digital media along with you while you trav el, ActiveSync w orks with W indows Media Player to synchronize music, video , and pictures with your device.
4. Click Set up Sync . 5. Choose whether to synchronize automa tically or manually . For mor e information about Windows Media Player on y our device, see “Using Window s Media Player” in Chapter 9.
Digitally sign and encrypt all messages ActiveSync allows y ou to set up S/MIME e-mail encr yption and signing. Y ou must obtain a valid certificate to sign and encrypt e -mail messages successfully . 1. T ap Start > Programs > ActiveSync . 2. T ap Menu > Options .

The device name is used to identify the device in the f ollowing situations: • Synchronizing with a PC • Connecting to a network • Restoring information from a backup Note If you synchronize multiple devices with the same PC, each devic e must have a unique name.

Y our device has an expansion slot for inserting a M ini SD card. Using ActiveSync , you can copy or mov e information from the PC to y our device and vice versa.

86 Managing Y our P ocket PC Phone 5.6 Prot ecting Y our Pock et PC Phone There are two kinds of protection that you can set f or your device: • Y ou can protect your SIM card fr om unauthorized use by assigning a PIN (personal identification number).
Managing Y our P ocket PC Phone 87 Notes • Each time a wrong password is ent ered, the device response time gets longer until the device appears to be not responding . • If you forget your passwor d, you must f ollow the instructions in this user manual to clear the memory before you can access y our device.
88 Managing Y our P ocket PC Phone 5.7 Resetting Y our Pocket PC Phone Occasionally , you may need to r eset your device. A normal (or soft) reset of your device clears all active progr am memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slow er than normal, or a program is not performing properly .

92 Getting Connected 6.1 Connecting to the Internet Y our device is equipped with powerful networking func tions that enable you to connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, GPRS ( General Packet Radio Service) or the mobile phone net work.

94 Getting Connected T o set up a dial-up connec tion to your ISP When you use your device t o dial up to your ISP and connect to the Internet, you will be billed by the number of minutes that y ou use. T o establish a dial-up connection on your device, you need the same settings that you normally use when you dial up from y our computer .
Getting Connected 95 If you have set up multiple types of connections on your device, y ou can manually start a connection. 1. T ap Start > S ettings > Connections tab > Connections . 2. T ap Manage existing connections . 3. T ap and hold the name of the desired connection, then tap Connect .

Getting Connected 99 6.4 Using Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology . Devices with Bluetooth capabilities can exchange inf ormation within a distance of about 10 meters without requiring a physical c onnection.
100 Getting Connected Note By default, Bluetooth is turned off. If you turn it on, then turn off y our device, Bluetooth also turns off. When you turn on your device again, Bluetooth automatically turns on. T o turn Bluetooth on and make your device visible 1.
Getting Connected 101 9. S elect the check boxes of services that you want to use fr om the paired device. 10. T ap Finish . T o accept a Bluetooth partnership 1. Ensure that Bluetooth is turned on and in visible mode. 2. T ap Y es when prompted to establish a partnership with the other device.

Note If your computer does not have built-in Bluet ooth capability, y ou need to connect and use a Bluetooth adapter or dongle on your computer .
