46 Using Phone F eatures Notes • T o adjust the conversation phone volume, y ou must do it during a call. Adjusting the volume at another time will aff ect the ring, notification, and MP3 sound levels. • When you activate Vibra te mode, sound will automatically be muted and your device will vibrate when an inc oming call is received.

50 Using Phone F eatures Note When you use the hardwar e keyboard to dial a number , the digits entered will be displayed on the right side of the entry box and the equivalent letters will appear on the left side. Whereas tapping the Phone keypad will display only the digits in the entry box.

While your devic e is connected, ActiveSync synchr onizes every time you make a change on either the PC or your device.

When synchronizing with multiple computers , the items that you synchroniz e will appear on all of the computers with which they are synchr onized.

This section describes the basics on how to install Sprite Backup and use it to back up and restor e data on your device.

A normal (or soft) reset of your device clears all active progr am memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly .

90 Getting Connected 6.1 Connecting to the Internet Y our device is equipped with powerful network ing functions that enable you to connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, GPRS (General P acket Radio Service) or the mobile phone net work.

92 Getting Connected T o set up a dial-up connection to your ISP When you use your device t o dial up to your ISP and connect to the Internet, you will be billed by the number of minutes that y ou use. T o establish a dial-up connection on your device, you need the same settings that you normally use when you dial up from y our computer .
Getting Connected 93 If you have set up multiple types of connections on your device, y ou can manually start a connection. 1. T ap Star t > Settings > Connections tab > Connections . 2. T ap Manage existing connections . 3. T ap and hold the name of the desired connection, then tap Connect .
94 Getting Connected 2. In Internet Explorer on your PC, click F av orites > Add to F avorites and save or mov e favorite links to the Mobile F avorites subfolder in the F avorites list. 3. Connect your device to your PC. If synchroniza tion does not start automatically , click Sync .

Do one of the following: • T o save the picture in My Pictures on your device, tap Y es . • T o save the picture in another location, such as a storage card , tap Save As .
96 Getting Connected 6.3 Using C omm Manager Comm Manager acts like a central switcher that lets you enable or disable phone features as w ell as manage your data connections easily . T o open Comm Manager • T ap the Comm Manager icon ( ) on the T oday screen; or • Press the Comm Manager button on the right side of the device.
Getting Connected 97 6.4 Using Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology . D evices with Bluetooth capabilities can exchange inf ormation within a distance of about 10 meters without requiring a physical c onnection.
98 Getting Connected Note By default, Bluetooth is turned off. If you turn it on, then turn off your devic e, Bluetooth also turns off. When you turn on your device again, Bluetooth automatically turns on. T o turn Bluetooth on and make your de vice visible 1.
Getting Connected 99 T o accept a Bluetooth partnership 1. Ensure that Bluetooth is turned on and in visible mode. 2. T ap Y es when prompted to establish a partnership with the other device. 3. Enter a passcode (the same passcode that is ent ered on the device requesting the partnership) to establish a secure connection.
100 Getting Connected T o connect a Bluetooth hands-free or stereo headset 1. Make sure that both your device and the Bluetooth headset ar e turned on and within close range, and that the headset is visible. Refer to the manufacturer’ s documentation t o find out how to set the headset in visible mode.
Getting Connected 101 Beam information using Bluetooth Y ou can beam information, such as contacts, calendar items, and tasks , as well as files from your devic e to your computer or t o another Bluetooth- enabled device.
102 Getting Connected T o beam other types of information, tap Menu > Beam [type of item] . 6. T ap the device name to which you want to send the beam. 7. If you beamed an Outlook item and it is not automatically added to Outlook, select File > Import and Expor t in Outlook to import it.
Getting Connected 103 T o enable Bluetooth Explorer and Bluetooth file sharing on your de vice 1. T ap Star t > Settings > Connections tab > Bluetooth > FTP tab. 2. Select the Enable Bluetooth Explorer check box. This makes the Bluetooth device folder visible in the F ile Explorer .

Use the devic e as a Bluetooth modem Y ou can connect your device to a notebook or desktop computer thr ough Bluetooth and use the device as a modem for the comput er .
Getting Connected 105 3. Now , open the Internet Sharing program on y our device. T ap Start > Programs > In ternet Sharing . 4. Select Bluetooth P AN as the PC Connection . 5. Fr om the Network Connection list, select the name of the connection that your device uses to connect to the Internet.
106 Getting Connected T o use a Bluetooth phone as a modem for your devic e 1. On your device, tap Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections . 2. T ap Add a new modem c onnection . 3. Enter a name for the connection. 4. I n the Select a modem list, tap Bluetooth .
