Use HP Smart Install to connect to a computer, a wired network, or a wireless network The software installation files ar e in the product memory . The HP Smart Insta ll program uses a USB cable to transfer the installation files from the product to your computer.
HP Smart Install for Windows wireless networks, method 1: Use the product control panel NOTE: Use this method only if you know yo ur wireless networ k SSID and password. 1. On the product control pa nel, touch the Wireless button. Touch the Wireless Menu button, and then touch the Wireless Setup Wizard item.
Change copy quality The following copy-quality settings are available: ● Auto Select : Use this setting when you are not concerned about the quality of th e copy. This is the default setting. ● Mixed : Use this setting for documents that contain a mixture of text and graphics.
Scan by using HP Scan software (Windows) 1. Double-click the HP Scan icon on the co mputer desktop. 2. Select a scanning shor tcut, and adjust the settings if necessary. 3. Click Scan . NOTE: Click Advanced Settings to gain access to more options. Click Create New Shortcut to create a customized set of settings and save it in the list of shortcuts.
Replace the print cartridges The product uses four colors and has a different print cartridg e for each color: bl ack (K), magenta (M), cyan (C), and yellow (Y). CAUTION: If toner gets on any clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash the clothing in cold water.
3. Grasp the handle on t he old print cartridge and then pull the cart ridge straight up to remove it. 4. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging. 5. Gently rock the print cartridge from front to back to distribute th e toner evenly inside the cartridge.
6. Remove the orange, plas tic shield from the bottom of the new print cartridge. 7. Do not touch the im aging drum on the bottom of the print ca rtridge. Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print- quality problems. 8. Insert the new print cartridge into the product.
9. Pull the tab on the left side of the print cartridge straight up to completely remo ve the sealing tape. Rec ycle the sealing tape. 10. Close the print-cartridge drawer.
11. Close the front door. 12. Place the old print ca rtridge, the sealing tape, and the orange pl astic shield in the box for the new print cartridge. Follow the recycling instructions that are included in the box.
Check the scanner glass for dirt and smudges Over time, specks of debris might collect on the scanner glass and white plastic backing, which can affect performance. This can cause vertical st reaks on copy jobs from th e docum ent feeder, and specks on copy jobs from the flatbed scann er glass.
Understand paper use This product supports a vari ety of paper and other prin t media. Paper or print media that does not meet the following guidelines might ca use poor print quality, increased jams, and premature wear on the product. It is possible for pape r to meet all of these guidel ines and still not produce satisf actory results.
Media type Do Do not Labels ● Use only labels that have no exposed backing between them. ● Use labels th at lie flat. ● Use only full sheets of labels. ● Do not use labels that have wrinkles or bubbles, or are damaged. ● Do not print partial sheets of labels.
Adjust color Manage color by changing the settings on the Color tab in the pr inter driver. Change the color theme for a print job 1. On the File menu in the software program, click Print . 2. Click Properties or Preferences . 3. Click the Color tab. 4.
● Photo (Adobe RGB 1998) : Use this theme with printing digital photos that use the AdobeRGB color space rather than sRGB. Turn off color management in the software program when using this theme.
6. Click the Print in Grayscale option to print a color document in black and shades of gray. Use this option to print co lor documents for photocop ying or faxing. You can also us e this option to print draft copies or to save color cartridge life. 7.
Clean the paper path from the product control panel 1. From the Home scre en, touch the Setup button. 2. Touch the Service menu. 3. Touch the Cleaning Page button. 4. Load plain letter or A4 paper when you are prompted. 5. Touch the OK button to begin th e cleaning process.
Print on both sides manually with Windows 1. On the File menu in the software program, click Print . 2. Select the product, and then click the Properties or Preferences button.
4. Select the Print on both sides (manually) check box. Click the OK button to print the first side of the job. 5. Retrieve the printed stack from the output bin, and maintaining the same orientation, place it with the prin ted side facing down in Tray 1.
Automatically print on both sides with Windows 1. On the File menu in the software program, click Print . 2. Select the product, and then click the Properties or Preferences button.
