2 Get to know the HP Printer • Printer parts • On button Printer parts 1 Input tray 2 Paper width guide 3 On button: Turns the product on or off. When the prod uct is off, a minimal amount of power is still used. To completely remo ve power, turn off the product, then unplu g the power cord.
• When the produ ct is turned on, th e On button light will be lit. • When the product i s processing a job, the On butt on light will be b linking. • If the On button ligh t is blinking very quickly, the printer i s in an error state that you can resolve by foll owing the onscreen messages.

7. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box. 8. Click Print or OK to begin print ing. NOTE: You can print your d ocument on b oth sides of t he paper, in stead of just one side. Click on the A dvanced button on the Paper/Q uality or Lay out tab. From the Pages to Print drop-down menu se lect Print Odd Pages Only .
7. Select the appropriate opt ions. •O n Layout tab select Portrait or Landsca pe orientat ion. •O n Paper/Quality tab select the appropriat e paper type and p rint quali ty from the Media drop-down list. • Click Advanced t o select t he appropriat e paper size from the Pape r/Output list.

4 Paper basics You can load many dif ferent types and sizes of paper in t he HP Printer, i ncluding lett er or A4 paper, p h oto paper, transparencies, and envelopes.
HP Brochure Pape r or HP Superior Ink jet Paper These papers are glossy-coated or matte-coat ed on both sides fo r two-sided use. They are the perf ect choice for near-ph otographic rep roductions and bu siness graphi cs for report covers, special presen tations, brochures, mailers, and calendars.

Load small- size paper a . Raise the inpu t tray ❑ Raise the inpu t tray. b . Lower the outp ut tray ❑ Lower the outp ut tray and pull out the tray extender.
c . Slide paper-width guide to the left. ❑ Slide paper-wi dth guide to the left. d . Load paper. ❑ Insert stack o f photo paper w ith short edge d own and side to be printed on facing up. ❑ Slide stack of pa per forward until i t stops. NOTE: If the photo pa per you are using has perforat e d tabs, loa d photo paper so that tabs are on t op.
Load envelope s a . Raise the inpu t tray ❑ Raise the inpu t tray. b . Lower the outp ut tray ❑ Lower the outp ut tray and pull out the tray extender.
❑ Remove all pape r from the main in put tray. d . Load envelopes. ❑ Insert on e or more envelo pes into far-righ t side of the inp ut tray. The side to be printed o n should face up. The flap sh ould be on the left side and facing down. ❑ Slide stack of e nvelopes do wn until it stops.

Order ink supplies Before ordering cartridges , locate the correct cart ridge number. Locate the cartridg e number on the pr inter ▲ The cartrid ge number is locate d inside the cartridge door. Replace the cartridges To replace the cartri dges 1. Check po wer. 2. Load paper. 3. Remove cartridge. a . Open cartri dge door. Wait for print carriag e to move to center o f the product. b . Press down to rele ase cartridge, the n remove it from slo t.
b . Remove plastic t ape using pink pull tab. c . Slide cartridge into slot until it clicks into place. d . Close cartridge door. NOTE: The HP Pri nter prompts you to align th e cartridges when you print a document af ter installing a new cartridge. Fol low onscreen inst ructions to complete align ing the cartridges.

Clear a paper jam Clear a paper jam. To clear a paper jam ▲ Locate the paper jam Input tray If the paper jam i s located near the back i nput tray, pull the paper gentl y out of the input tray. Output tray • If the paper j am is located near th e front output tray, pull the paper gen tly out of the output tray.
Inside of pr inter • If the p aper jam is locate d inside the pri nter, open the cl eanout door located on the bottom of the printer. Press tabs on both sides of the cleanout door. • Remove j ammed paper. • Close the cl eanout door. G ently push the do or towards the prin ter until b oth latches snap into place.
Unable to print Make sure that the printer is tu rned on and tha t there is paper in the tray. If you are still unable to pri nt, try the foll owing in or der: 1. Check for error messages and resolve. 2. Disconnect an d reconnect t he USB cabl e. 3. Verify that the product is not paused or offline.

Print cartridge may be defective To determine if a cartridge is de fective do the follow ing: 1. Remove black cartrid ge and then close cartridge do or. 2. Try printi ng a docume nt. 3. If you get t he defective ca rtridge messa ge again and the On butto n light blinks quickly, the tri-color cart ridge should be replaced.
