Scanning software The scanner includes a CD with scanning and document-man agement programs, as shown in th e following ta ble. In the Save As settings a rea, set up the default f ile name and location that is used when saving a PDF file. The following settings can be speci fied: ● File name: Select one or more of the check boxes to specify the defaul t file name for PDFs. Disabling the scanne r buttons To prevent butto ns from being accidentally pu shed, you can use the Scanner Tools Utility to disable the bu ttons. Use the same utili ty to re-enable the buttons. To disable the scanner bu ttons, complete the follo wing steps: 1.

Load originals in the document feeder 1. Extend the output tray. For long er paper sizes, extend the document f eeder extension at the t op of the scanner. 2. Place the stack of pa ges face down. The top of the page s should point down ( ). 3. Adjust the paper g uides to center the origina l.
Basic scanning 1. Load the origina ls. For more information, see Load originals . 2. Do one of the fo llowing: – Press the scanne r button for the task you wa nt to perform. F or more informati on see Use the s canner buttons . – Open a scanning softw are program and start the scan from the so ftware.
Note If you do not have Ne wSoft Presto! PageManager installed, you are prompted for which p rogram to use for the scan. When the scan is complete, the sca nned image is displayed on the screen. You can save the scan by draggin g it to a location in the folder tree on the left-ha nd side of the screen.
Scan to PDF button Use the lower -left Scan to PDF ( ) button to scan an item a nd save it as a PDF file. The file is autom atically opened into Adobe Acroba t or your default PDF reader.
To scan a busine ss card, adjust the paper guid es to the width of t he card and insert it as follows: ● vertically ● face down into t he document feeder When you press the Scan Busine ss Card button, the NewSoft Presto! BizCard program automatically laun ches and scans the card.

To clean the strips of glass, follow these steps: 1. Disconnect the USB cable and power supply from the scanner. 2. Open the scanner h atch. 3. Clean the glass by usin g a soft, lint-free cloth that has b een sprayed with a mild gl ass cleaner. Caution Use only glass cleaner to clean the scan ner glass.
3. Place the unfolde d cloth into the document feede r. 4. Press the Scan Documen t button. Caution Wait two minutes for the componen ts to dry before proceeding to the next step. 5. Place u p to five pag es of printed paper in the s canner. Scan an d view the results.
3. Use an HP paper-p ath cleaning cloth to clea n the feed roller and th e small rubber pad that is loca ted below it. Note If you do not have a n HP paper-path cleaning cloth, use a lint-free cloth that has be en dampened with isopropyl alcohol. 4. Wipe the area ar ound the small rubber pad to remove any paper dust.

LED indi cation Scanner action o r condition The Power LED is lit with a steady, dim amber light. The scanner i s in Power Save mode . The Power LED is lit with a steady green light . The scanner is on and read y to scan. The Power LED blinks green at a medium speed.

Scanner b uttons are no t working correctl y After each step, start a scan to see if th e buttons are working. If the problem persists, proceed with the next step. 1. A cable might be loos e. Ensure that the USB cable and the power sup ply are securely connected.
● The document fe eder or output tray might contain more than the maximum number of pages. Load fewe r pages in the document feeder, and re move pages from the output tray. ● Check to se e that the scanner hatch is fully closed. ● Clean the scanner pap er path to help reduce misfeeds.
Clear jam s from the s canner pape r path 1. Open the scanner h atch. 2. Remove the originals or an y obstructions from the paper path. 3. Remove any debris (paper, staples, cl ips, etc.) that you see in the paper path. 4. Close the scanner hatch. 5. Reload the u nscanned originals in the do cument feeder.
