Install the batteries 1. Open the Battery/Memory card door by sliding the latch as indicated on th e Battery/Memory card doo r. 2. Insert the batte ries.
Set the region Along with the Langu age setting, the Region setting determines the default date format and the format of the video signal for di splaying camera images on a television when conn ected through an option al HP Photosmart Pre mium dock or wireless dock base (see Using the Setup Menu on page 31 ).

2 Taking pictures and recording video clips Live View allo ws you to frame pictures and vi deo clips in the Imag e Display. To activat e Live View , press until appears brief ly in the upper right corne r of the Image Display. The Live View di splay looks like t his: 1 Shooting mode indicato r.
Recording video clips 1. Press until appears bri efly in the upper rig ht corner of the I mage Display. This indicates you are in Live View . 2. Frame the subj ect. 3. Press and release the Video butto n. 4. To stop re cording video, press and release the Video button again.
Optimizing focus When the camera cannot a uto focus, the focu s brackets turn red. This in dicates the picture may be out of focus because th e subject is out of the fo cus range or the scene has low cont rast.

Note 2 Digital zoom reduces the resolution of an im age, so your picture ma y be more grainy than the sam e picture taken with opt ical zoom. When you need hi gher quality, limit the use of digital zoom . Setting the flash To select a flash setting, press , use to highlight the desired flash mod e, then press .
Landscape — For scenes with deep perspecti ve, such as mo untain scenes. Portrait —For pictures that h ave one or more people as t heir primary subject. Action —For capt uring sporting even ts, moving cars, or any scene where you want to stop the a ction.
Note To add audi o to images taken with the Self-Timer setting, see Recording audio on page 2 3 . The Self-Timer setting resets to the def ault Auto shooting mod e after the picture or vide o clip is taken.

Compensation to a positive num ber. For a scene with ma ny dark objects, decrease the Exposure Comp ensation . White Balance Different light ing conditions cast di fferent colors. This sett ing allows the camera to compensate for this, reproducing colors more accurat ely and ensuring t hat whites appear white in the final i mage.
3 Reviewing images and video clips You can review an d manipulate ima ges and video clip s in Playback as described here. For information a bout enhancing ima ges, see Using the Design Gall ery Menu on page 22 . 1. Press until appears bri efly in the upper rig ht corner of the I mage Display.
Deleting images To delete a displ ayed image during Playback : 1. Press . 2. Use to select an option, then p ress . – Cancel —Ret urns to Playback wit hout deleting the d isplayed image. – This Image —Delet es the image or video clip. – All Images (in Memory/on Card) —Deletes al l stored images and video clips.
4 Using the Design Gallery Menu You can use the Design Gallery features to enhance your capture d images. 1. While in Playback , use to scroll to a n image, then press . 2. Use to hi ghlight the Desi gn Gallery Menu tab. 3. Use to highlight an opt ion, then press and follow the o n-screen instructions.
Modifying colors Modify Color allows you t o apply color schemes to th e displayed image. To modify colors: 1. Use to select Modify Color , then press . – Cancel —Ret urns to the Design Gallery Menu without saving changes. – Black & White —Co nverts color images to black and white.
If the currently displ ayed image already has an audio cl ip attached to it, t he Record Audio sub-menu disp lays instead when you sele ct Record Audio . ● Keep Current Clip —R etains the current au dio clip and returns to the Design Gallery Menu .
5 Transferring and printing images You can transfer im ages and video cl ips with or wit hout the HP Phot osmart Software that came with your camera. However, t he HP Photosmart Sof tware has several features for transferring and manag ing your images and al so guides you through the transfer process.
Connecting to the comp uter 1. Turn off the camera, connect it to the comp uter using the USB cable that came with your camera, then tu rn on the camera. – On Windows computers, the camera appears as a device i n Explorer, allowing you to copy images from th e camera to the computer.
there are no printer e rror messages. 2. Verify that the camera's USB Configuration is set to Digital Camera (see USB Configur ation under Using the Set up Menu on page 31 ). 3. Connect the ca mera and printer using th e USB cable that came with your camera, then turn on the camera.
6 Using HP Photosmart Express With HP Photosma rt Express , you can select sti ll images in your camera t o print automatically (see Selecting images f or printing on page 29 ) or to purch ase prints online (see Buying prints online on page 30 ) the next time you connect the ca mera to your computer or pri nter.
3. Highlight Share Menu Setup... , then press . Connect the camera to your com puter using the USB cable that came with your came ra. Follow the instructions in the Share dialog box to set up destinations in yo ur camera. 4. Disconnect the camera fro m the computer, then press to verify that the new destinati ons are now in the camera.
Buying prints online You can select images you want a s prints and order them onl ine. 1. Verify that your computer is con nected to the Internet. 2. Turn on the camera, then press . 3. Use to highlight Buy Prints Online . 4. For each image you want to ord er as a print, use to display t he image, then press .
7 Using the Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to set preference s for the camera’s behavior. 1. While in Live View or Playback , press , then use to highlight . 2. Use to highlight a me nu option, then press to display the menu opt ion’s sub-menu.
8 Troubleshooting Use this section to find informat ion on: ● Resetting the camera (see Re setting the camera on page 32 ) ● Possible prob lems and solutions (see Problems and solutions on page 32 ) Resetting the camera If your camera does not resp ond when you press butto ns, reset the camera.
The NiMH batteries wi ll not charge. ● Try charging the batteri es again after they h ave drained awhile. ● Use only the approve d HP AC power adapt er. ● If charging the batt eries in the HP quick recharger o r the spare battery charging bay of an optional HP Pho tosmart dock does not work, rep lace the batteries.
My image is too bright. ● Turn the flash off (s ee Set ting the flash on page 15 ). ● Move back from the sub ject and use zoom. ● Adjust Exposure Compensation (see Exposu re Compensati on under Using the Capture Menu o n page 17 ). My image is too dark.
My camera stalls when establish ing a connection to the comp uter. ● Ensure that the USB cabl e is properly connected to th e camera and computer. ● Try connecting the USB ca ble to another USB port on the computer. ● Turn the camera o ff, then on again.

A Managing batteries Your camera uses two AA batteries, either Alka line, Photo Lithium, or rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). Alkaline batteries provide far le ss battery life than either Photo Lithium or NiMH batteries. Top points about batteries ● Fully charge NiMH batteries before using them for the fir s t time.
Power indicat ors When the batteries are low or the camera is connected to AC p ower, one of the following icons appears in the Image Display. If no battery icon appe ars in Li ve View or Playback , the batteries have sufficient power to function normally.
