Control panel and status lights Overview of buttons and lights The following diagram and related t able provide s a quick re fere nce to the printer control panel features. Label Name and Description 1 Wireless light: Indicates the status of the printer wirele ss co nnection.
Control panel display icons Icon Purpose Copy : Opens the Copy men u where you can select a copy type or change the copy setti ngs. Scan : Opens the Scan menu where you can select a destination for your scan.
Icon Purpose ECO icon: Displays a screen where you can configure some of the printer environmental features. Ink icon: Shows estimated ink le vels by cartridge. Displays a w arning symbol if the ink level is less than the minimum expected ink level. NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicato rs provide estimates for plannin g purpo ses only.
Paper basics The print er is design ed to work we ll with most t ypes of offic e paper. It i s best to test a var iety of pr int paper types before buyin g large quantities. Use H P paper for op timu m print qualit y. Visit th e HP website at www.hp.com for more informa t ion about HP paper.
use this paper with any inkjet p rinter. It is availab le in glos sy finish in several sizes, including A4, 8.5 x 11 inches, and 10 x 1 5 cm (4 x 6 inc hes).
Order HP paper supplies The print er is designed to work well w ith most type s of office paper. Use HP paper for optimum print quality. To order HP papers a nd other supplies, go to www.hp.c om . At this time, some portions of the HP website are available in Eng lish only.
Load media Select a pap er size to c ontinue. To load small-s ize paper 1. Pull out the photo tray. If you do not see the photo tra y, remove t he output t ray from t he printer. 2. Load paper. ● Insert a stack of p hoto paper int o the photo tray print side do wn.

Open the HP printer software (Windows) After installing the HP printer s oftware, depending o n your ope rating system, do one of t he following: ● Windows 8.1 : Click the do wn arrow in low er left corn er of the S tart scre en , and t hen select the printer name.
Sleep mode ● Power usage is reduc ed while in the Sleep m ode. ● After initial setup of printer, the printer wil l enter the Slee p mode after five min utes of inactivity. ● The time to the Sle ep mode can b e changed from th e control pane l. To set the Sl eep mode time 1.
Auto-Off Auto-Off is auto matically enabled by de fault when you turn on t he p rinter. When Aut o-Off is enabled, the printe r will automat ically tur n off after 2 hours of in acti vity to help redu ce energy u se. Auto-Off turns the printe r off complet ely, so you must use the O n button t o turn the printe r back on.
Accessibility The printer provides a n umber of features that make it accessib le for people wit h disabilities. Visual The HP software provided with th e printer is accessible for use rs with visual impai rments or low vision by using your operating system's accessibility options and feat ures.
3P r i n t Most print settings are automatic ally handled b y the soft ware a ppl ication. Change the settings manually only when you want to c hange print quality, p rint on s peci fic types of pap er, or use special features.
Print photos Make sure photo paper is lo aded into the photo tray. To print photos from a memo ry device 1. Insert a memory device into the slot. 2. On the p rinter dis play, select a photo tha t you wan t to print a nd touch Continu e . 3. Specify the number of photos to print.
To print a photo fro m the computer (OS X) 1. Load paper in th e tray. Fo r more information, see Load media on page 11 . 2. From the File menu in your sof tware, choose Print . 3. Make sure yo ur printer is selected. 4. Set the print options. If you do not see options on th e Print dial og, click Show De tails .

Print with AirPrint Printing using Apple’s AirPrint is sup ported for iOS 4.2 and Ma c OS X 10.7 or later. Use AirPrint to print wire lessly to th e printer fro m an iPad (i OS 4.
Print using the maximum dpi Use maximum dots per inch (dpi) mode to print high-quali ty, sha rp images on photo paper. Printing in maximum dpi ta kes longer th an printing w ith other s e ttings and requires a large amou nt of disk space. To print in maxi mum dpi mode 1.

What are Web Services? ePrint ● ePrint is a free service f rom HP tha t allows you to print to your HP ePrint-e nabled printer anytime, from any locat ion. It's as simp le as sending an e mail to the email address a ssigned to your pr inter whe n you ena ble Web Services on the printe r.
Set up Web Services Before y ou set up Web Services, make sure yo ur printer is conne cted to th e Internet using wireless connection. To set up Web Se rvices, use one of the following m ethods. To set up Web Services using the printer control panel 1.

Print with HP ePrint HP ePrint is a free ser vice from HP th at allows yo u to print to your HP ePrint-en abled printer anywhere you can send an emai l. J ust send your doc umen ts and ph otos to the email address assigned to your printer w hen yo u enable Web Services.
NOTE: The email will be print ed once it is receiv ed. As with any emai l, there is no guara ntee when or whether it will be re ceived. You can check the print status on HP Connected ( www.hpconnected.com ). NOTE: Documents printed with ePrint may appear different from the origi nal.
Use HP Printables Print pages fr om the web , without using a computer, by setting up HP Printables, a free service from HP. You can print coloring pages , calendars, puzzles, reci pes, maps, and more, depen ding on the apps available in your country/re gion.
Use the HP Connected website Use HP’s free HP Connected websit e to set up inc reased security for HP ePrint, and specify the email addresses that a re allowed to send email to your printer. Yo u can also get product up dates, more apps, and other f ree services .
Remove Web Services To remove Web Services 1. From the prin ter contr ol panel disp lay, touch ( ePrint ), and then touc h ( Web Services Settings ). 2.

Copy documents The Copy me nu on the printer disp lay allo ws you to easily select nu mber of copies and color or black and white for copying on plain paper. You can also easily acces s advanc ed settings, such as changing the paper ty pe and size, adjusting the dar kness of the copy, and resizin g the copy.
Scan You can sca n documents, photos, and other paper t ypes, and send them to a variety of destina tions, such as a computer or an email recip ient. When scanning documents with the HP printer software, you can s can to a format th at can be searched and edited.
4. Choose the type of sc an shortcut you wa nt. 5. Touch Start Scan . To scan an original from HP p rinter software (Windows) 1. Load the original print side down o n the righ t front corne r of the scanner glass. 2. Click the Print & Scan tab. 3.
Scan to Email The Scan-to-Email App is an appl i cation that a llows you to qu ic kly scan and email photos or documents to the speci fied recip ients directly from your HP e-A ll-in-One printer. Y ou can set up your email addres ses, log in to your acc ounts with th e given PIN co d es, and then scan a nd email your documents.
5. Select your scan type by to uching Photo or Docu ment . 6. For photos, select the can settings, and touch Continue . For documents, continue with the next step. 7. To add or remove recipients, to uch Modify Recipient(s) , and when finished tou ch Done .
To scan using Websca n Scanning using Webscan offers b asic scan options. For additiona l sca n options or functionality, scan from the HP printer software. 1. Load the original print side down o n the righ t front corne r of the scanner glass. 2. Open the embedde d web server.
Tips for copy and scan success Use the follo wing tips to c opy and scan successfully: ● Learn how to scan to email from the printer display. Click here t o go online for more information . ● Keep the glass and the back of t he lid clean . The scanner inter prets anything it detects on the glass as part of the image.

Check the estimated ink levels To check the estimated ink levels from the printer cont rol pane l ▲ From the Home scr een, touch the ( Ink icon) to display the estim ated ink levels. To check t he ink levels from the printer soft ware (Windows) 1. Open the HP printer software.
Replace the cartridges To replace t he cartridge s 1. Check that power i s on. 2. Remove the old cartridg e. a. Open the access door. b. Remove the cartridge from the sl ot. 3. Insert a n ew cartrid ge. a. Remove the cartridge from packagin g. b. Remove plast ic tape u sing the pull tab.
c. Slide the new cartridge in the slot until i t clicks. 4. Close th e cartridge access doo r. NOTE: The HP printer software prompts you to align the ink cartridges when you print a document after installing a n ew ink cartridge.
Order ink supplies Before ordering ca rtridges, lo cate the correct ca rtridge number . Locate the cartridge n umbe r on the printer ▲ The cartr idge number is located i nside the cartridge access doo r. Locate the cartridge numbe r in the printer software 1.
Use single-cartridge mode Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP ENVY 5660 serie s with only one ink cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initi ated when an ink cartridge is rem oved from the ink cartridge carriage. During single-cartridge mode, t he printer can co py d ocuments, c opy photo s, and print jobs from the computer.
Cartridge warranty information The HP cartridge warranty is app licable whe n the cartridge is u sed in its desig nated HP printin g device. This warranty does not c ove r HP ink cartridges that hav e been refilled, remanufa ctured, refurbished, misused, or tampered with.
Anonymous usage information storage The HP car tridges used with this p rinter contain a memory chip that assists in the opera tion of the printer. In addition, this memor y chip stores a limited set .
Tips for working with cartridges Use the follo wing tips to work with c artridges: ● To protect the cartr idges from drying out, always tu rn the prin ter off us ing the On bu tton, and wait until the On bu tton light goes out. ● Do not open o r untape cartridges until you are ready to install them.
7 Connect Your Printer Additional advanced settings are available from the printer's h ome page (embedded web server or EWS). For m ore informatio n, see Open the embedded Web server on p age 64 .
Set up the printer for wireless communication ● Before yo u begin ● Set up the printer on your wireless network ● Change the connection type ● Test the wireless connection ● Turn on or off t.
Change the connection type After you have installed the HP p rinter software and connecte d the printer to your computer or to a network, you can use the softwar e to ch ange the co nnection type (for example, from a USB connection to a w ireless connec tion).
Connect wirelessly to the printer without a router With Wi-Fi Direct, you can print wirelessly from a comput er, sm art phone, tablet, or other wireless- capable device—without con nectin g to an existing wireless netw o rk. Guidelines for using Wi-Fi Direct ● Make sure your computer or mobil e device has the necessary soft ware .
3. From the computer, conn ec t to a new n etwork . Use the proce ss yo u normally use to con nect to a new w ireless network or hotspot . Choose the Wi-Fi Direct name from the lis t of wireless netwo.

Change network settings From the printer control p anel, you can set up and mana ge your printer wireless connecti on and perform a variety of networ k management tasks. This includes vi ewing and changing network settings, restori ng network defau lts, and turning the wirele ss function on or off.
Advanced printer management tools (for networked printers) To view or chan ge some settings , you might ne ed a password. NOTE: You can open and u se the embedded Web server wi thout bein g conn ec ted to th e Internet . However, so me features are not available.
Open the embedded Web server You can access the embe dded Web server via either the network o r Wi-Fi Direct. To open the em bedded W eb server via ne twork NOTE: The printer must be on a network and must h ave an IP address. T he IP address for the printer ca n be fo und by p ressing t he Wireless icon or by printi ng a network configuration page.
Tips for setting up and using a networked printer Use the following tips to set u p and use a networked printer: ● When setting up the wireless net worked printer, make sure your wireless router is powered on. The printer searches for wi rele ss routers, then lists the detec ted network names on the display.

Jams and paper-feed issues What do you want to do? Clear a paper jam Solve paper jam issues. Use an HP online troubleshooting wizard Instructions for clearing the jam in the printer or in the auto ma tic document feeder and resolving issue s with paper or the paper feed .
b. Locate any jammed paper inside the printer , grasp it with both hands and pull it towards you. CAUTION: If the paper t ears when y ou are r emovin g it from the rollers, c heck the rollers and wheels for torn pi eces o f paper that might be re maining ins ide the printe r.
b. Carefully turn the prin ter on i ts side t o expose t he bottom of the printer. c. Check th e gap in the printer where the in put tray wa s. If ther e is any jammed p aper, reach into the gap, grasp th e paper wi th both ha nds and pu ll it towar ds you.
Read general instructions in the Help for clearing a print carr iage jams 1. Remove any o bjects, s uch as paper , that are blocking th e print carriage. NOTE: Do not use any tools o r other de vices to remove jammed paper. A lways use caution when removing jammed paper from insid e the printer 2.
◦ Make sure paper is load ed in the tray. For more i nformation, se e Load media on page 11 . Fan the paper be fore loadi ng. ◦ Make sure the pap er-width guides are set to the correc t markings in the tray for the pa per size you a re loading. A lso make s ure th e paper guides are snug, but not tight , against th e stack.
Ink cartridge issues First tr y removing a nd reinsertin g the ink c artridges. Ma ke sur e the cartrid ges are i n the correct slots. If this does not work, clean the cartridge contac ts. If your pr oblem is still no t resolved, see Replace the cartri dges on p age 49 for more inform ation.
9. Close the access door, and ch eck if the error message has gone away. 10. If you still receive th e error me ssage, tur n the prod uct off, a nd then on again. NOTE: If one ink cartridge is causing p rob lems, you can remove it and use the sing le-cartridge mode to operate th e HP ENVY 5660 series with only o ne cartridge .
Printing issues What do you want to do? Fix problems with page not p rinting (unable to print) HP Print and Scan Doctor The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a utilit y that will try to diag nose and fix the issue automatically. Troubleshoot problems with print jobs not printing.
4. Verify that the printer is set as the default printer. To verify that the printer is set as the default printer a. Depending upon your o perating system, do one of the following: ● Windows 8.
iv. On the General tab, next to Startup type , make sure that Automatic is selected. v. If the service is not already runn ing, under Service st atus , click Start , and then click OK . Windows Vista i. From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel , System and Mainten ance , Administrative Tools .
c. On the Printer menu, c lick Cancel all documents or Purge Print Document , and then click Yes to confirm. d. If there are st ill documents in the queue , restart the computer and tr y printing again after the computer has restarted. e. Check the print queu e again to m ake sure it is clear, and the n try to print again.

If you are seeing jagged lin es, or streaks , or no ink in portions of t he boxes, th en automatically clean the cartridges.

Ink cartridge problem The ink cartridge is not com patib le with your pri nter. Th is err or can occur if you install an HP Instant Ink cartridge into a print er tha t has not been enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program.
Paper size mismatch The paper size or type selected in the pr inter drive r does not match the pape r loaded in the printer. Make sure that the c orrect pa per is loaded in the print er, and then p rint the document aga in. For more information, see Load med ia on page 11 .
