1 Getting to know your computer Right side Component Description (1) Power light ● White: The computer is on. ● Blinking white: The computer is in the Sleep state, which is an energy-saving mode. The co mputer shuts off power to the display and other unneeded components.
Component Description (8) AC adapter light ● White: The AC adapter is co nnected and the battery is charged. ● Blinking white: The battery has reached a low battery level. ● Amber: The AC adapter is connected and the battery is chargi ng. ● Off: The computer is using DC power.
Display Component Description (1) WLAN antennas (2)* Send and receive wire less signa ls to communicate with wireless local area networks (WLANs). (2) Webcam light On: The webcam is in use. (3) HP TrueVision HD Webcam Records video, capt ures still ph otographs, and allows you to video conference and chat onli ne using streaming video.
TouchPad Component Description (1) TouchPad zone Moves the on-screen pointer and selects or activates items on the s creen. (2) Left TouchPad button Functions like the left button on an e xternal mouse. (3) Right TouchPad button Functions like the right button on a n external mouse.
Component Description (2) Power button ● When the computer is off, press the bu tton to turn on the computer. ● When the computer is in the Sleep state, pre ss the button briefly to exit Sleep. ● When the computer is on and you want to lock the screen, briefly press the power button un til you see the sign-in screen appear.
Component Description (3) Vents (4) Enable airflow to cool internal components. NOTE: The computer fan starts up automatically to cool internal components and prevent overheating. It is normal for the internal fan to cycle on and off during routine operation.
2 Using TouchPad gestures A TouchPad all ows you to control th e po inter on the screen us ing your fingers. TIP: Use the left and right buttons on the TouchPad as you would use th e corresponding button s on an external mou se. Scrolling Scrolling is useful for mo ving up, down, or sideways on a page or image.
Tapping To make an on-scre en selection use the tap function on the TouchPad. ● Point to an item on the screen , and then tap one fin ger on the TouchPa d zone to make a selection. Double-tap an item to open it. You can also ma ke text selections u sing the tap and drag function.
3 Using the action keys Icon Key Descriptio n F1 Go to the previous page in your browser history. F2 Go to the next page in your browser history. F3 Reload your current page. F4 Open your page in full-screen mode. F5 Switch to your next window. F6 Decreases the screen brightness incrementally as long as you hold do wn the key.
4 Charging the battery WARNING! To reduce potential safety issues, use only the user-replaceable battery provided with the computer, a repla cement battery provided by HP, or a compatible battery purchased from HP. CAUTION: Removing a u ser-replaceab le battery that is the sole power so urce for the computer can cause loss of information.
