1 Removal and replacement ● Removal and replacement strategy ● Service appr oach ● Removal and re placement pr ocedures ENWW 1.
Removal and replacement strategy This chapter dis cusses the rem oval and replac ement of field re placeable units ( FRUs) only. Replacing FRUs is generally the reverse of remova l. Occasionally, no tes and tips are included to provide directions for difficult or critical replacement pro cedures.
TIP: For clarity, some photos in this chapter show components remo ved that would not be removed to service the product. I f necessary , remove the comp onents listed at the beginning of a procedu re before proceeding to service the product. Electrostatic discharge CAUTION: Some parts are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Types of screws WARNING! Make sure that components are replaced wi th the correct screw type. Using the incorrect screw (for example, substituting a long screw for the correct shorte r screw) can cause damage to the product or interfere with produc t operation.
Service approach Before performing service ● Remove all media from the product. ● Turn off the power using the power switch. ● Unplug the power cable and interface cable(s).
Post-service tests After service has been completed, perform the followin g tests to verify that the repair or replacement was success ful. Test 1 (print-quality test) 1. Verify that you have completed the necessary reassembly steps. 2. Make sure that the inp ut tray contains clean, u nmarked paper.
