F irmware update Before configuring and using the MDS600, be sure that the MDS600 and all other devic es in the SA S fabric are running the latest compatible versions of firmware.
Operati ons 13 To power up t he MDS600: 1. Complete server hardware installation an d cabling. See the server blade documentation. 2. Conn ect the SAS cables and power co rds to the MDS600. 3. Press and hold the Power On/Standby button. Wait and o bserve the system power LED and system fans.
Setup 14 Se tup S pace and airflo w requirement s To allow for servicing and ad equate airflow, observe the following space and airflo w requirements when deciding where to install a rack: • Leave a min imum clearance of 63.5 cm (25.0 in) in front of the rack.

Setup 17 CAUTION: Always plan the rac k installation so that the heaviest item is on the bottom of the rack. Install the heaviest item first, and continue to populate the rack from the bottom to the top. CAUTION: HP has not tested or validated the MDS600 with any t hird - party racks.
Setup 18 WARNING: Th e HP MDS600 Dis k System is very hea vy. To r educe the risk of per sonal inju ry or damage to the equipment: • Observe local occupational health and safety requirements and guidelines for manual material handling.
Setup 19 • Hard drives are sen sitive to excess vibrati on. Use care wh en opening and c losing the drawer . • A RAID 1 mirror requires an ev en number of hard drives. • Drives that will be configured within an array should be t he same capacity to provide the greates t storage space ef ficiency.
