6 General Precautions T he following are some general pr ecautions to remember when handling y our MS242 0 /MS2430 s eries scanner. Do not t ur n the unit u pside down with the platter i n place. Do not p ress on t he win d ow in the replacement platter or the vertical window frame.

15 Installat ion Quick Inst alla tio n Ou tline The following is a quick preview of the steps required for f irst time installations. Each item is discu ssed in detail later in this section. Determine clearance, ventilation and service access requiremen ts.
16 Site Requi rements Service A ccess W hen routing and installing the cable(s) and power supply, make sure you leav e access that these compon ents may be swapped easil y without the need to re move the unit from the chec kout counter.

T he scanner/ Diva scale must then be configured to match the host’s RS232 parame ters. Cable installation alone do es not guarantee that t he scanner will communicate properly with the host system.

37 Audible Indicat or s W hen in operation th e MS2420/MS2430 provide s audible feedback that indicates the status of the unit and the current scan . Eight se tti ngs are available for the tone of the beep (normal, six alternate tones and no tone) plus thr ee volume settings.
38 Visua l Indicat or s Blue LED is located near the bottom co rner of the vertical output window on the MS2420/ MS2430 . W h en the sca nner is ON, the flashing or constant, illumination of the LED indic ates the st atus of the MS2420/MS2430 and the current scan.
39 Fail ure Modes Flashi ng Blue and On e R azz berry Tone This indicates that the scanner has ex perienced a laser subsystem failur e. T he scanner will try up to th ree times to correct the failure condition.

41 Diagnost ic I ndicator Displa y Error Code Description 09 COPROCES SOR COMMUNICAT ION ER RO R – The main microprocessor is not communicating with the interface coprocessor. The inter face coprocessor may be in a fault condition with the host or just not able to respon d.
42 Diagnost ic Indicat o r Disp lay Error Code Description 26 LASER #3 (L EFT HORIZONT AL) HIGH CURRENT W ARNING – The laser in the v ertical scanning subsystem is drawing excessive current. This could be a w arning for a future total failure. Have the unit checked at an a uthorized service c enter when convenient.
43 Power Save Modes Th e MS 2 4 20/ MS2430 has five configurable power save modes. Re fer to the M etroSelect Configuration Guide for additional information on Power Sav e Modes. 1. Blink Power Save M ode: Blinks the laser OF F and ON a fter a configured period o f non - us e.
44 Beeper Options and Button Functions Changing the Beeper Tone Beeper tones may be configured incrementally using the following bar code. The new tone will be heard followed by a short pause. Two more new tones w ill be heard signifying the new setting has been stored in memory.
45 Startup W hen the scanner first receives power, the blue LED will turn on and the scanner will beep once . The scanner is now ready to scan. Power- Up Test Mode W hen a MS2420/MS243 0 s canner is first pow ered up, it cycles through a number o f self - tests before starting normal operation.

47 Scale Opera ti on Scal e Zeroing After the unit has been o fficially calibrated (see pa ge 48) t he scale can be re - zeroed by pressing the scale- zeroing button either on the unit or on the re mote display stand. W hen t he s ca le is at ze ro t h e amber LED will be illuminated.
48 Cali bration Th e scanner/Diva scale must be calibrated if: it is a fir st time insta llation the scale cannot be re - z eroed the calibration verification tests indicate errors there is a change in the units of measure [i.e. from pounds (lbs.

66 Symptom Possible Cause(s) Solution All Interfaces The unit scans a bar code, but locks up a fter the first scan (the bl ue LED stays on). The scanner is configured to support some form of host handshaking but is not receiving the signal.
67 S ymptom Possible Cause(s) Solution RS232 Only The unit powers up OK and scans OK but does not communicate properly to t he host. The com port at the host is not working or is not configured properly. Check to make sure that the baud rate and parity of the scanner and the communication port match and the program is looking for RS232 data.
