18 ATTACHMENT INSTALLATION STE RN BRACKE T SAFET Y ROPE CLAMP SCRE WS Attach the stern b racket to the b oat transom by tightening th e clamp screws. Attac h a rope f rom the boat to the hole in th e stern bracket. T his will help to p revent acciden tal loss of the outboard motor.
19 TRANSOM ANGLE ADJUSTMENT INSTALLATION Use the trans om angle adjusti ng bolt (p. ) to adjust the an gle of th e outboard motor so the prope ller is perpendi cular to the surf ace of the water.
Improperly maintaining this outboard motor, or failing to correct a problem before operation, can cause a malfunction in which you could be seriously hurt or killed. Always perform a preoperation inspection before each operation, and correct any pr oblem.

46 SERVICING YOUR OUTBO ARD MOTOR A loose spark plug can overheat and d amage the engine. Overtighte ning the spark plug can dam a ge t he thr e ads i n th e c y li n de r head. Install the sp ark plug caref u lly, by hand, to avoid cr oss-thr eading.
