AU TO I NS T AL L Setting the channel automatically 1 Switch on at the mains supply socket after completely connecting all leads. The VCR will be in the standby mode at this s tage. 2 Press the POWER butt on on the VCR to start the aut o install. This screen appears to s how that the channel is being set.
SETTING THE CLOCK - A U TOMATIC MODE Note: An antenna or cable m ust be connected to the VCR bef ore y ou begin this operation. Tips You'll need to set the clock when f irst hooking up your VCR, and any tim e the power goes out for m ore than 1 hour.
SETTING THE CLOCK - TIME ZONE SETTING/DA YLIGHT SA VING TIME SETTING What to do if the display e d time drifts from the current time by more than an hour Note: Tur n on the cable box with hookups [E], [F] or [G ] before setting. 1 Press the GUIDE b utton.

SETTING THE CLOCK - MANUALLY To set the clock 1 Press the GUIDE b utton. The m ain on-scr een menu will appear on the T V screen. You may view all the on-sc reen instructions in Englis h, French or Spanis h. W hen y ou first s et up y our VCR, ti will be set to English.
6 Press the or cur sor button to change the hour. • The "AM" or "PM" c an be select when y ou c hange the hour. 7 Press the cursor butt on to select the min utes and then p ress or cur sor button to change the minutes. 8 Press the cursor butt on to select M ONTH and t hen press or cursor button to c hange the month.
11 Press the GUIDE b utton. The VCR c lock is now set, and should s how the correct tim e of day on the VCR's display. Notes: • The cloc k uses the 12 hour sy s tem. You set it for AM or PM. • You can correct any item entered as y ou go by pressing cursor button to selec t and press or curso r to change.
PRE-TUNING THE VCR TUNER Note: An antenna or cable m ust be connected to the VCR bef ore y ou begin this operation. Presetting the receiv ed channels w ithout using a cable box (Hookups [A ], [B], [C], or [D]) Press the POW ER button to turn on th e VCR.
Note: Your VCR is capable of r eceiving 68 broadcast T V channels (vhf 2 - 13, uhf 14 - 69) and cable c hannels (CA T V I - 125). In som e areas channels cannot be r eceived when CATV1 is select ed.
5 Use the num ber buttons t o select the numb er of the channel you w ant to ad d or erase. 6 Press the ST OP button t o delete the chan nel, or press the PLAY button t o add it. 7 Press the GUIDE b utton to return to regu lar viewing . A uto blue setting 1 Turn on the TV an d select the video channel (3 or 4).
ON: The s creen becom es blue and mutes sound when a channel without a broadcast signal on the VCR or a channel on which broadcas ting has finished. • If the signal is too strong, this func tion may not operate even if y ou specif y <ON>. Dur ing play back this function does not oper ate.
CA BLE BOX SETUP The f ollowing setup allows the VCR channel to automatically switch to the cable box output c hannel during delay ed recording. Note: This setup should be perfo rmed if y ou rec eive all channels through a cable box . (Hookups [E], [F], or [G]).
Note: Refer to the cable box owner's manual to identify the cable box output channel ( usually 3 or 4) . 8 Press the cursor but ton to select "VCR PL US+ SETUP", and then press the ENTER bu tton.
PLA YB ACK To play back a recorded tape 1 Turn on the TV an d select the video channel (3 or 4). Or, if y ou are hook ed up with an audio/video cable, set the TV to AUX or VIDEO. 2 Insert a recorded tape. The power com es on autom atically. W hen a cas sette without its safety tab is inserted, playback star ts automatically.
2 Press the REW b utton. The VCR rewinds the tape all the way to the beginning, then stops. Press the ST OP/EJECT button on the VCR to ej ect the tape.
SPECIA L PL A YB A CK EFFECTS Variable speed play back Still Playback (Pause) Press the PA USE button on the remote control t o still the tape during play. The pic ture will "freeze". Y ou m ay see s ome m inor noise or interf erence on the scr een.
Press the ST OP button to stop th e tape. Notes: • Use the CH ( or ) button to minim ize any visual noise bands on the screen. • After 1 m inute in slow motion playback, the VCR will stop the tape autom atically to prevent damage to the tape and VCR.
3 Press the cursor butt on to select AUDIO, and then press the ENT ER button. 4 Press the cursor button to select "HIFI" or "LINEA R". • Select Hi-Fi to playback sound rec orded on the Hi-Fi track and for norm al use. T he L and R indicators will light in the VCR's display panel.
SHUTTLE CONTROL Using the shuttle ring The s huttle feature lets you control all the play back functions -- PLAY , PAUSE, SLOW MO TION, and SEARCH -- using one convenient ring. How t o use the shutt le ring 1 Turn the shuttle ring during play back or still playback (pause) .
USING THE "SU PER INDEX" FEA TURE What is SUPER INDEX? SUPER INDEX allows y ou to quick ly sear ch for a program or a sc ene y ou want to view or the point from which y ou want to start recording on tape, with the following four functions: • INDEX SEA RCH: Y ou can locate the beginning of a recorded program , using the INDEX f eature*.
NOT ES: • BLANK SEARCH cannot be operated with a cassette without a safety tab. • BLANK SEARCH may not operate when a blank section las ts no more than f ive minutes.
Sw itching rew ind or fast forw ard to v isual search (EA SY VIEW) Hold down the (VIEW /SKIP/BLANK) button dur ing rewind (or fast f orward), and the mode will switch to vis ual search, s o that y ou can s earch for a s cene y ou want to view while scanning pictur es.
VIEWING THE ON- SCREEN DISPLA Y Sw itching betw een the clock, time counter and time of remaining tape Press DISPLAY while the on-scr een display is display ed. The on-s creen display switches in the order below together with the VCR's display. Press the DISPLAY button to see the clock.
T-180: T -180 tape T-210: T -210 tape Notes: • The tape rem aining tim e is not displayed correctly for a tape without any rec ordings or tapes other than T-30/60/90/120/140/160/180/210. • The rem aining tim e may not be display ed c orrectly during fast f orwarding or rewinding.
INDEX WITH THE TIME COUNTE R To find specific sections on a tape Indexing with the Time Counter You can set the time c ounter to mem orize a certain point in the video program ming, and you can return to that point automatic ally . 1 Press the DISPLAY button two or t hree times.
RECORDING A P ROG RAM Before y ou record Note: The c assette safety tab must be in plac e in order to record. The VCR m ust be hook ed up properly for rec ording. 4 Press the CH ( / ) button or the number buttons to s elect the channel y ou want to record. Exam ple: Select channel 8. • 100/ENT and and for the channel 124. 5 Press the REC but ton on the remo te control or the REC/IRT button on the VCR. Recording will start and the REC indic tor on the VCR will appear.
RECORDING A P RO GR AM - RECORDING TIPS To w atch one program w hile recording another 1 Once you hav e set the VCR for recordin g, press the VCR/T V button.
To record a Second A udio Program (SA P) Some s tations transm it a Second Audio Program - such as in a second language. If a station br oadcasts in SAP, the SA indicator will display on y our T V screen. You can set the VCR to record a s econd audio program by activating the SAP option.
Stereo v s. mono sound W hen you select the STEREO option in the initial setup operation, your VCR records in ster eo any station that broadcasts stereo sounds. W hen a TV channel broadcas ts in stereo, you'll see a stereo indicator on the T V screen.
INSTANT RECORDING TIMER Using the Instant Recording Timer (IRT) The Ins tant Recording Tim er (REC/IRT button on the VCR) will let y ou m ake a sim plified tim er recording without having to use the program m ing timer. In order to s et the IRT properly the clock m ust be set bef ore starting.
DELAYED RECORDING Setting the VCR to record later Note: The c assette safety tab must be in plac e in order to record. W ith the delayed recording feature, you can set this VCR s o that it automatical.

13 Press the POWER butt on to turn off the VCR. T he delayed recording indicator will display on the VCR. The delayed recording indica tor will display on the T V. This tells y ou that the VCR will autom atically record at the tim es and dates you have program med.
USING THE VCR PLUS+ SYSTEM FOR RECORDING A bout the VCR Plus+ sy stem This handy featur e mak es timed r ecording a snap. You don't need to enter the specif ic channel, date, time, or duration of a pr ogram. All you enter is its PlusCode progr amm ing number - a number of up to eight digits.

EASY DELAYED RECOR DING WITH THE VCR PLUS+ SYSTEM This setup should be performed if y ou are using an A ntenna or Cable without a cable box. (Hook ups [A ], [B], [C] or [D] .
Note: If y our broadcas t channel number is the same as the VCR Plus+ Channel in y our TV listing do not enter any number . 6 Press the CH ( / ) button to move up and down through the channel list until you reach VCR Plus+ CH42. 7 Press the number buttons to assign your broadcast channel number to the corresponding V CR Plus+ channel.

Norm al program s will clear automatic ally once r ecording is com plete, but daily and w eek ly s etting mus t be cleared out manually.
PROGRAMMING THE VCR REMOTE TO CONTROL YOUR TV The VCR remote control ca n be programmed to c ontrol many TV bra nds that are r emote controlled. 1 Turn on the T V. 2 Point VCR remote control toward T V. 3 Press and ho ld the "TV" b utton. 4 Press the remote button corresponding to your TV brand as shown in the set-up chart.
PROGRA MMING THE V CR REMOTE CONTROL TO CONTROL YOUR CA BLE BOX The VCR remo te control can be pro grammed to control man y cable boxes that are remote controlled. Y ou can easily change channels. 1 Turn on the cable box. 2 Point VCR remote control toward cable box 3 Press and hol d the "CA T V" butto n.
INTEGRA TING YOUR STEREO SYSTEM W ITH YOUR VCR Hookup When your VCR is conn ected to a stereo system, you can: • Make high quality "audio only " rec ordings for up to 6 hour s (on a T-120 video c assette tape). • Receive quality stereo sound from y our VCR through your stereo system.

COPYIN G TA PES FROM A CAMCOR DER Hook-up You may use y our VCR to c opy tapes f rom any camc order onto standard VHS cas sette tapes. Note: If your camc order is not stereo ( has only one audio plug) , connect it into the AUDIO IN-L input on the back of the VCR.

COPYING FROM ONE VCR TO ANOTHER VCR (DUBBING) Hookup If you have two VCRs, y ou m ay use one VCR to r ecord a tape that is being played back in the other VCR. To copy from one VCR to another VCR 1 Press the AVX button on t he remote control o f VCR-1 so that L 1 (line) appears in th e display.
