Before You Start Accessories Remote Control Batter ies for Remote Contr ol (AA Size) Video/Audio Cable Install Batteries in the Remote 1 Open th e battery cover on th e back of the rem ote. 2 Insert tw o AA batteries. Make sure th at the polarities (+ and -) are aligned correctly.
COPY PRO TECTION • Many DVD discs are encoded w ith co py protection. B ecause of this, yo u should only connect yo ur DVD player directly to your TV, not to a VCR.
Num ber sy stem in U.S.A ., Canada, Korea, Japan, etc. Playback Region Num ber Both the DVD player an d the discs are coded by region. These region al codes must match in order for the disc to play. If the codes do not match, the disc will n ot play. The Region Num ber for this player is described on the rear panel of the player.

Rear Panel (1) DIGITAL AUDIO OUT JACK • Use eith er an optical or coaxial digital cable to conn ect to a compatible Dolby Dig ital receiver. Use to connect to an A/V A mplif ier that contains a Dolby Digital decoder or DTS decoder.
Connections Choosing a Connection The followin g show ex amples of connections commonl y used to connect th e DVD player w ith a TV and other components. Before Connectio n the DVD Play er • A lway s turn off the DVD player, TV, and other com ponents before you conn ect or disco nnect any cables.
Connection to a TV (For Video) • M ethod 1 DVD Player + TV w ith Video Input Jack • Method 2 DVD Player + TV w ith S-Video Input Jack (If the S- Video is selected in the VIDEO OUT SELECT .) • Method 3 DVD Player + TV w ith Component Video Jacks (If the Y, Pb or Pr is selected in the VIDEO OUT SELECT .
Basic Functions Playing a Disc Before Playback • Turn on a TV and press the TV/VID EO button to se lect video m ode. • Turn on y our Audio System to select AUX, CD or DVD.
4 Step Motion P lay back (Ex cept CD) Press the STEP button on the remote during play back. • Each time the button is pr essed, a new frame will a ppear. • No sound is heard during STEP mode. • Press PLAY/PAUSE to resume normal play back. (You can only perform step motion play back in the forward direction.
• While in search (4X8X/1 6 X/3 2X) on DVD or high-speed play back on VCD, no sound will be heard. • Though 2X SCAN AUDIO is ON in Setup Menu, no sound will be hea r d on d iscs which are rec o rde d with LPCM, DTS or MPEG-Audio. • Depen ding on t he disc, audio m ay not be heard w hen a dis c is in 2X pl ayback m ode.
NOTE • With som e DVDs, you may not be able to call the Menu screen by pressing the MENU button : In such cases, press the TOP MENU b utton. • Som e DVDs do not have any Men u or T o p Menu. • When play ing a VCD 1.1 or CD, the Menu screen w ill not appear.
1 During play back, press th e DISPLAY button on the remote. • Curren t T itle, Chapter number and elapsed time w ill be displayed. • Use the L EFT /RIGHT button to select a T itle or a Chapter number. • Use the UP/DOWN button or Number buttons to enter a different Title or Chapter number, then press the ENT ER button.
1 Press the REPEAT b utton on the remote. Repeat screen appears . 2 Select Chapter, Title or A-B using the L EFT /RIGHT button. • A -B Repeat 1 Press the REPE AT b utton. Select A-B on screen w ith the L EFT /RIGHT b utton. 2 Press ENTER at the point w here you want the repeat play to start (A ).
Program Playback and R andom Playback Programm ed play allows y ou to specify the play back order of titles, chapters or tracks on a disk. This function is only possible w hen playback is stopped. Progr am Play back (DVD/VCD/CD) 1 Press the MODE button.
Advanced Functions Using the Disc Vi ew Functi on You can directly access the desired m usic or v ideo track w ithout usin g the men u. Track View (VCD) Displays the beginni ng view of each Track and th e T rack number. 1 Press the TOP MENU button durin g playback.
• In stop m ode o n VCD, pr ess the T OP MENU button and the TRACK VIEW will be displayed directly . • When pressing the TOP MENU on DVD; The disc's Top Menu will com e up. • When pres sing the TOP MENU on CD ; The un it enters the INTRO mode.

Selecting the Subtitle Language You can select a desired Subtitle quickly and easily w ith the SUBTIT LE button. Using the SUBTITLE button 1 Press the SUBT ITLE button. 2 Use the UP/DOW N button to se le c t the desir e d Subtitle la ngua ge. 3 Use the LEFT/RIGHT button to d e termine w hether or not the Subtitle will be displayed.

Changing the Camera Angle When a DVD contains m ultiple angles of a particular scene, you can select the Angle f unction.
1 During play back, press the BOOKMARK button on the rem ote. Then a marker w ill be displayed. 2 Use th e LEFT/RIGHT button to move to t he desired bookm ark icon . 3 When y ou reach the scene y ou wan t to mark, press the ENTER button. The icon will ch ange to a num ber (1, 2, o r 3 ).

Changing Setup Menu Using the Setup Menu The Setup Me nu lets you customize your DVD player by allow ing you to select vario us language p r eferences, set up a parental level, ev en adjust the play er to the type of television s creen you h ave. 1 Press the SETUP b utton on the rem ote in the stop mode.

Setting Up the Parental Control The Parental Control function w orks in conjunction w ith DVDs that have been assigned a rating - wh ich helps you control the ty pes o f DVDs that your fam ily w atches. There are up to 8 rating levels on a disc. 1 With no disc play ing, press SETUP.
