1 Introduction The APC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is de signed to prev ent blackouts, brownou ts, sags, and surges from reaching y our eq uipment. The uninterruptible powe r supply (UPS) filters small util- ity line fluct uations and i solates yo ur equipm ent from l arge disturbances by inter nally disconnect ing from the utility line.
2 Mount the UPS in a Rack Your UPS m odel may vary from t he examples depi cted in thi s manual. Install brackets as shown, or at a 5 in (12.7 cm ) setback. Remove the battery m odule to li ghten the UPS during instal lation. N ote: The m odule is hea vy.
3 Connect Equipment and Power to the UPS Startup 1. Connect equi pment to the UPS. A laser printer draws signi ficantly more power t han other t ypes of equipm ent and ma y overload the UPS. 2. Add optional accessori es to t he Smart-Slot. 3. Plug the UP S into a tw o-pole, three-wire, grounded rece ptacle onl y.
4 Basic Connectors Serial Port USB Port TVSS Screw Use only interface kits approved by APC. Use only the supplied cable t o connect to the Serial Port. A standard serial interface cable is incompatible with the UPS. Serial and USB Ports cann ot be used simultaneousl y.
5 2: O PERA TION Front Display Panel I NDICATOR D ESCRIPTION Online The UPS is supplying utility power to the conn ected equipment (s ee Troubleshoot- ing ). AVR Trim The UPS is compensating for a h igh utility vol tage. AVR Boost The UPS is compensating for a low utility voltag e.
6 F EATURE F UNCTION Self-Test Automatic: The UPS perform s a self-test autom atically when turn ed on, and ever y two weeks thereafter, (by default). During the self-test, the UPS briefl y operates the connected equipment on b attery. Manual: Press and hold the button for a few seconds to initiate the self-test.

9 4: S TOR AG E , M AINTENANCE , T RANSPORTI NG , AND S ERVICE Storage Store the UP S covered i n a cool, dry loca tion, with the batteries fully charged. At -15 to +3 0 ° C (+5 to +86 ° F), charge the UPS battery every si x months. At +30 to +45 ° C (+86 to +113 ° F), charge t he UPS battery every three months.
10 Service If the UPS requires service do not return it to the dealer. Follow these step s: 1. Review the pr oblems discussed in Tr oubleshooting to elim inate common problem s. 2. If the probl em persists, co ntact APC C ustomer Service throug h the APC web site, www.
11 5: T ROUBLESHOOTING Use the chart below to solve minor UPS installation and operation problems. Refer to www.apc.co m with complex UPS problems. P ROBLEM AND / OR P OSSIBLE C AUS E S OLUTION UPS WILL NOT TURN ON Battery not connected prop- erly. Check that the b attery connec tor is fully sn apped into position.
12 P ROBLEM AND / OR P OSSIBLE C AUS E S OLUTION THE OVERLOAD LED IS ILLUMINATED AND THE UPS EMITS A SUSTAINED ALARM TONE The UPS is over loaded. The connected equipment exceeds the “maximum load,” as de- fined in Specifications at www.apc.com . The alarm remains on unt il the overlo ad is removed.
13 P ROBLEM AND / OR P OSSIBLE C AUS E S OLUTION UPS OPERATES ON BATTERY A LTHOUGH LINE VOLTAGE EXISTS The UPS input circuit breaker tripped. Reduce the load on the UPS by unplugging equipment. Reset the breaker. Very high, low, or distorted line voltage.

15 Declaration of Conformity Limited Warranty American Power Conversion (APC) warrants its p roducts to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchas e.
