When you’re near your computer, connect your handheld to the HotSync cable with the travel charger connected to a wa ll outlet as sh own in the section that begi ns on page 21.

You can enter personal information such as your name and address; change the time and date; view different date and time formats when you tra vel; turn off sounds, and configure your handh eld to work with a modem or network.

Page 40 Managing Your Appli cations Working with expansion cards The expansi on slot on your handheld enables y ou to add S ecure Digital (SD) ca rds and MultiMedia Cards (MMC ) that exten d the functionali ty and sto rage capacity of y our handheld. Your Treo comes w ith a mock, no n-functional card insi de the expansio n slot.
Chapter 3 Page 41 Openin g appl ications on an expansion card After you insert an expans ion card in the expansion slot, you can open any of the applications stored on the expansion card. To open an app lication on an expa nsion card: 1. Insert the expa nsion card into the expansion slot as de scribed in the previous secti on.

Page 50 Applications Overv iew Date Book Plus Date Book P lus lets you quick ly and easily sc hedule appoin tments or any kind o f activity associated with a da te and/ or a time. In Date Book Plus, you can do the following: ■ Enter a d escription of your a ppointment and assign it to a specific time and d ate.

Page 62 Common Ta sks To display a category of records: 1. Tap the cat egory pick list in the uppe r-right corner of the li st screen. 2. Select the category you wa nt to view. The list screen now disp lays only the records assigned to that cate gory.

Tap the category pick list in the upper-right corner of the screen. 2. Tap Edit Categories. 3. Select the category that you want to ren ame, and then t ap Rename.
Page 64 Common Ta sks ■ Contacts: The Instant Look up feature le ts you scroll immediately to a Contacts entry by entering t he first few le tters of a first o r last name , or the first na me initial and the first few letters o f a last name. ■ Expense: The Lookup feature displ ays the Con tacts entries that have data in the Company field.
Chapter 5 Page 65 Using Find You can use Find to l ocate any tex t that you specify, in any application. To use Find: 1. Press Option and then press Shift to open the Find dialog box. Tip: If you select text in an application before you openin g the Find dialog box, the selected text automatical ly appears i n the Find di alog box.
Page 66 Common Ta sks 4. If your Contacts entrie s are sorted by last name , begin to spell the last name. If your Contacts are sorted by first name, begin to spell the first name. Note: The first i nitial and last name search in the Contacts Instant Lookup fea ture is not availa ble in the Phone Number Look up feature.

Page 68 Common Ta sks Sorting lists of records You can s ort lists of records in various wa ys, depend ing on the a pplication. S orting is avai lable in applicati ons that have list screens: Contacts, To Do List, M emo Pad, and Expense. Note: You can also as sign records to ca tegories.
Chapter 5 Page 69 Making records private In all PIM ap plications, except E xpense, you can make i ndividual records private. Private records remain visibl e and a ccessible unti l you select t he Security setting to hide or mask al l private records.

A note can b e up to several thousa nd characters long. For example, for an appo intment in Date Book Plus, you can attach a n ote with direction s to the location.
Page 72 Common Ta sks Choosing fonts In all PIM a pplications except E xpense, you can change the fo nt style to make text easier to read. You can choose a different font style for each appli cation. To chan ge t he font style: 1. Open an a pplication.
Chapter 5 Page 73 Performi ng a HotSync oper ation for the first time The first time you synchroni ze your data, you need to enter user informatio n on both the handhel d and Palm Desktop so ftware. After you ente r this informa tion and sy nchronize, the Ho tSync Manager recogniz es your handheld and does n’t ask for this informat ion again.
Page 74 Common Ta sks Beaming information Your handhe ld is eq uipped with a n IR (infrared) port t hat you ca n use to be am information to another Palm OS ® de vice that’s close by an d also has an IR port. The IR port is locat ed on the top of your hand held, betwe en the e xpansion s lot and the stylus, b ehind the s mall dark shield.

Chapter 6 Page 77 Chapter 6 Application-Specific Tasks This chapter is organized by application and gives instructions on how to do tasks that are specific to each of the foll owing applic ations: ■.
Page 78 Application-S pecific Task s Date Book Plus When you open Date Book Plus, the screen shows the current date and a list of times for a normal business d ay. Working in Day View Day View shows an hourly calenda r for a particular date. If there are events sched uled on tha t date, they appear in the appropriate time slot.
Chapter 6 Page 79 You can also schedule event s that occur on a particular date but have no specif ic start or end times, such as birthdays , holidays, and anni versaries. These are referred to as “untimed events.” Untimed events a ppear at the top of the list of times, marke d with a diam ond.
Page 80 Application-S pecific Task s 4. Hold Opti on and press Return so that no start or en d times are defined for the n ew event. Tip: You can als o create a new untimed ev ent by making sure no event is selected and then entering a descrip tion. 5.
Chapter 6 Page 81 Setting an alarm f or an event The Alarm se tting enables you to set an a udible alarm for even ts in Date Boo k Plus. You ca n set an alarm to sound minute s, hours, or days before an event. The defaul t Alarm setting is 5 minutes before the time o f the event , but you can change this to any numbe r of minutes, h ours, or days.
Page 82 Application-S pecific Task s To dismiss a reminder for multiple alarms, do one of the following: ■ Tap the check box next to an item to clear that item from th e reminder list. ■ Tap the it em text or icon clear the it em from the reminder l ist and jump to that it em.

Enter a number th at corresponds to how ofte n you want the e vent to repeat on the Every line. For example, if you select M onth and enter the number 2, th e event repeats every other month.

Chapter 6 Page 85 Work ing in Wee k View Week View s hows the cal endar of you r events for an e ntire week. This view lets you quick ly review your app ointments an d availa ble time sl ots. In ad dition, the gra phical displ ay helps you spot overlaps and conflicts in you r schedule.

Page 88 Application-S pecific Task s Tips for using Year View Keep the following po ints in mind: ■ Tap a da y to disp lay the date and events for that day i n the title bar. A minus sign indicates only one even t is scheduled o n that day. A plus sign indicates multi ple events are sch eduled on that d ay.
Chapter 6 Page 89 Spotting event confl icts With the a bility to define specifi c start and end times for any event, it’s possible to sche dule events that overlap (an event that starts before a p revious even t finishes). An event conflict (time overlap) appea rs in the Week View as overla pping bars.
