GB - 8 Read, understand and follo w all safety practices in Owner/Operator Manual bef ore beginning assembly . Failure to f ollow instructions could result in personal injur y and/or damage to unit. AL W A YS disconnect wire from spar k plug before assemb ly .
GB - 9 When side discharging, AL W A YS install side discharge de fl ector . AL W A YS shut off engine, allow blade to stop and disconnect spark plug wire before clearing clogs or cleaning unit. Check gr ass bag for w ear , damage, and/or deterioration.
GB - 10 Use only replacement par ts designed f or your unit. See your Grav ely Dealer. Allow engine to cool bef ore storing in any enclosure. AL W A YS clean unit before e xtended storage. See engine manual f or proper storage. DO NO T store unit inside a building with fuel in the fuel tank where any ignition sources are present.
GB - 11 Engine/blade control f eature on mower stops engine and blade within 3 seconds whene ver operator releases handlebar . Check this feature frequently . If feature f ails to operate, disconnect spark plug wire and adjust or have it repaired before using unit.
GB - 12 Speed Control Speed control rod changes the mower ’ s forw ard trav el speeds. High – Push rod all the wa y forw ard. Low – Pull rod all the wa y rearward. Star t mowing slo wly and use speed control rod to gradually increase speed to a saf e, comfortable walking pace .
GB - 13 4. Remov e side discharge cov er and keep hardware. 5. Attach side discharge de fl ector to studs on mower . Make sure de fl ector covers discharge opening. 6. Secure with cov er hardware from step 4. T o Mulch 1. Shut off unit. 2. Remov e grass bag and install side discharge cov er .
GB - 14 Grav ely Dealers will provide any service, par ts or adjustments which may be required to k eep your unit operating at peak ef fi ciency . Should engine require service, contact a Grav ely dealer or an authorized engine manuf acturer's service center.
GB - 15 Sharpen the Mower Blades 1. Remov e mower b lade from unit. Discard mower b lade if: • More than 1/2 in. (1.27 cm) of metal is remov ed. • Air lifts become eroded. • Blade is bent or broken. 2. Shar pen mow er blade b y removing an equal amount of material from each end of mower b lade.
GB - 16 REPLACE OIL FILTER Replace oil fi lter ev er y 100 hours of use or ev er y season. 1. Change engine oil. 2. Clean around fi lter . 3. T urn fi lter counterclockwise to remov e. 4. Apply a thin coat of oil onto seal of new fi lter . 5. Install new fi lter and hand tighten securely .
GB - 17 ENGINE/BLADE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT T o adjust engine/blade control: 1. Loosen cable nuts a wa y from brack et. 2. Squeeze z-bend brac ket at engine end of cable to ward front of unit and hold in place. 3. Pull cable do wn from brack et until there is no slack in cab le.
GB - 18 5. Make sure the idler pulle y tur ns and the idler arm moves freely . 6. Reinstall drive belt in re verse order . IMPORT ANT: Be sure the belt seats in sheav e and pulley groo ves with the idler touching the back ( fl at) side of belt. 7. Adjust rear wheels to the same cutting height.
GB - 19 SPEED CONTROL BELL CRANK The speed control bell crank holds the speed control rod in position after a speed has been set. The spring washers ma y become loose with normal wear . If the speed control rod does not stay fi rmly in position, adjust the speed control bell crank.
GB - 20 Cut is poor 1. Worn blade . 2. T oo much grass is being remov ed per cutting. 3. Grass is too wet. 4. Mowing speed is too f ast. 1. Check b lade (See Maintenance ). 2. Raise cutting height. 3. Allow grass to dry . 4. Mow slow er . Grass does not disperse evenl y 1.
