2 2.3 SETTING UP THE EIDOS 19 CHOICE OF THE PLA YER LOCA TION T o get the best result, especially in audio, you will have to select a very rigid suppor t for your DVD transport. Due to the specific quality of its Goldmund «Mechanical Grounding» construction, the Goldmund DVD Player is less critical than other designs in placement selection.

3 3.1 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 FRONT P ANEL CONTROLS F RONT P AN EL KEY S OPEN Located near the disc drawer opening, this button opens the tray to load the CD or DVD. T he same button closes the tray when it is open. When loading a disc, place discs in the disc tray with the label side facing up.

3 3.3 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 SETTING THE TV SYSTEM The default setting of this player is AUT O , and unless you notice that the picture is distorted when playing some discs, you should leave it set to AUT O . If you experience picture distor tion with some discs, set the TV system to match your country or reg ion’s system.
3 3.4 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 SWITCHING ON After making sure that everything is connected properly and that the player is plugged in, press ST AN DBY/ON on the remote control to switch the player on. Also, switch on your TV and make sure that it is set to the input you connected the DVD player to.

We recommend using the Setup Navigator , especially if you connected this player to an processor for playing surround sound.

Further functions are detailed in the next chapter . Throughout this manual, the term ‘D VD’ means DVD-V ideo, DVD -Audio and DVD-R/RW .

3 3.5 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 FIRST CONNECTION DVD DISC MEN US Many DVD-V ideo and DVD -Audio discs contain menus from which you can select what you want to watch or listen to. They may give access to additional features, such as subtitle and audio language selection, or special features such as slideshows.
3 3.6 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS I NTRODUCTION Most of the features described in this chapter make use of on-screen displays. For an explanation of how to navigate these, see Using the on-screen displays above.
3 3.6 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS S CANNI NG DISC S Y ou can fast-scan discs forward or backward at various different speeds using the remote. 1 During playback, press Forward or Reverse to start scanning. 2 Press repeatedly to increase the scanning speed.
3 3.6 OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS F RAM E ADV ANCE / FR AME R EVERSE Y ou can advance or back up DVD - Video or D VD -RW discs frame-by-frame. With Video CDs, you can only use frame advance. 1 During playback, press (pause). 2 Press Reverse or Forward buttons to reverse or advance a frame at a time.
OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS U SIN G REPE A T PLA Y There are various repeat play options, depending on the kind of disc loaded. It’s al-so possible to use repeat play together with program play to repeat the tracks/chapters in the program list (see Creating a prog ram list below).
OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS U SING R ANDOM P LA Y Use the random play function to play titles or chapters (DVD-V ideo), groups or tracks (DVD-Audio), or tracks (CD, Video CD and MP3 discs) in a random order. Y ou can set the random play option when a disc is playing or stopped.
OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS C REA TI NG A PROGR AM LIST This feature lets you program the play order of titles/group/chapters/folders/tracks on a disc. 1 Press PL A Y MODE and select ‘Program’ from the list of functions on the left. 2 Select ‘Create/Edit’ from the list of program options.

After pressing ENTER to select the title/group/chapter/folder/track, the step number automati- cally moves down one. 4 Repeat step 3 to build up a program list. A program list can contain up to 24 titles/chapters/groups/folders/tracks.

OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 PLA YING DISCS S EARCHI NG A DISC Using the search mode function from the Play Mode menu you can quickly jump to a particular par t of the disc that you’re watching or listening to. 1. Press PL A Y MODE and select ‘Search Mode’ from the list of functions on the left .

OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 THE AUDIO SETTINGS MENU A UDIO DRC • Default setting: Off When watching Dolby Digital DVDs at low volume, it’s easy to lose the quieter sounds completely , including some of the dialog. Switching Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Control) to On can help by bringing up the quieter sounds, while controlling loud peaks.

OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 THE INITIAL SETTINGS MENU U SING TH E I NITIAL S ETT ING S MENU The Initial Settings menu is where you can set preferences for language, audio and video out- put, and so on. If a menu option is grayed out it means that it cannot be changed at the current time.

OPERA TING THE EIDOS 19 THE INITIAL SETTINGS MENU O PTIONS Parental Lock • Default level: Off • Default password: none • Default country code: US (21 1 9) Some DVD V ideo discs feature a Parental Lock level. If your player is set to a lower level than the disc, the disc won’t play .
